DON'T GIVE UP is a charming game about mental illness, determination, and the power to look on the bright side of life. Typically with (very) small indie games like these (with <100 reviews) you expect unpolished "stream of consciousness" that only lasts an hour or two. This, I'm happy to report, is quite the opposite. While it does have its rough edges (looking at you volume mixing -- RIP my ears), it's an enjoyable experience with a beautiful color palette and design, fantastic music, and humor reminiscent of Undertale . The combat can feel clunky at times, but was only an issue for me (keyboard+mouse user) in the last couple of battles. Definitely worth a try!
Hidden gem right here.
This game has such personality! A very unique story-based game. Reminds me of classic RPG games like Earthbound - especially the humor from some slightly-off characters - but the combat is a unique system where instead of classic RPG menu selection it is upbeat action. It took me a bit to grow into the game as I'm used to a lot of "silent protagonist" type of games where you talk to NPCs but your character doesn't talk back. In retrospect I really ended up enjoying that aspect. The developer definitely poured their heart and soul into this game and their personality shines through it. Having that personality and uniqueness definitely leaves a more memorable experience than a silent protagonist.
At first I was sceptic cause of the price for this game. But now I must say, why the fxck is this game so cheap??? I love it! It's like a mixture of Undertale and JPRG, which is totally awesome.
