Kinda disappointing. The dialogue was quite funny in a lot of places, so I often had hope, but it had little payoff. For a plot-based game with fight scenes in between story, the plot gave up on a really good idea too early on, the villain was weak, and the combat ranged from braindead to twitchy. It was an okay 5 hours, but I don't see any need to replay it.
I found it hard not to absolutely love and adore this game: simple yet effective gameplay spread evenly throughout the plot sequences that tell a deeply personal (and to a degree relatable) story which doesn't try too hard to impress you with SOME META 4TH WALL BREAKING QUIRKY CHARACTER in some nonsensical way. It's just something personal and thus very cool. Not without some faults, DON'T GIVE UP is a very illustrative and inspiring example of how you can make an indie game as a solo dev without having a big budget. Oh yeah, and the soundtrack here is nothing short of absolutely amazing, you better buy it as well.
I really wanted to like this game and if I could, I would give it a medium rating. But since I can't, I'm leaning towards a negative rating instead. Normally it should be right up my alley: pixel art, crazy story, wacky humor... But it left me absolutely unmoved. Somehow the game doesn't manage to reach the player emotionally, despite a relatively emotionally charged story. I think this is mainly due to the fact that there is no or only unimpressive music in important key scenes. So everything just seems flat and monotonous... (Even though the music in fights is really good!) Also, some battles can be extremely frustrating for various reasons: Especially with the last boss, it's impossible to get through without taking damage due to randomness, no matter how well you play. Poor game design. :( I don't like having to restart a fight over and over again until the randomness decides to let me win! (There is an easy mode but... yeah. No thanks). There's also a sound bug that drove me crazy: The sound that plays when you get a new item always plays at 100% volume and completely ignores your sound settings. My game's volume is set to 10%, so you can imagine how much I flinched every time the item sound blew my ears off. The same thing applies to the 'CHING!' sound effect which plays on the title screen.
Сама по себе игра среднячок, но автору хочется пожелать добра.
Eu amo esse jogo, a trilha sonora, o humor, os personagens <3 Mais pessoas deviam conhecer. . . I love this game, the soundtrack, the humor, the characters <3 More people should know
Had to put this down after wiping the party battle twice due to just plain not being able to see what's going on, but I was pretty close to stopping anyway. The main character is an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and I just can't see myself carrying them through whatever redemption arc or weirdness the creator has in store for me. Maybe I'll pick it up some other day after three margaritas and tequila shots, but otherwise no. Sorry.
Wow. Just wow. The music, the art, the gameplay, the story - gaah everything is just amazing. I could listen to the soundtrack on repeat! And the characters are so memorable! I don't even have the right words to express how much I love and enjoy this game. It's so cute and quirky; there are so many easter eggs and hidden references as well as hilarious dialogue. This game addresses a few mental illnesses such as anxiety and depression and tackles them in such a positive and compelling way. I highly recommend anyone who loves "under-dog" stories to play this game.
A fun little adventure-RPG romp. I'm actually surprised that more people haven't jumped on it. Some relatable (if over-the-top) characters and situations and pretty solid gameplay (combat can be clunky at first, but you get used to it).
Muito bom! Poderia ser traduzido para o PT pra ficar melhor ainda
Reboot automatiquement a la fin du premier combat, et recommence. A moins que ça fasse partie du jeu...?
