overrated. generally unclear objectives. feels like I'm regularly doing ~5 minutes of combat and then an hour of walking/puzzles/dialogue. Speaking of the dialogue... way too long and boring. Really slows down the pace. I often read it faster than it's narrated... some of these voice actors talk SUUUUPEEEERRRRR SLLLLOOOOOWWWWW. I honestly don't know how it's rated 90%+ positive. It's more of a 75% kind of game to me, tops. I ended up not finishing because there were 4 separate main questlines (I think?) that all became too frustrating to continue. Not because it was too challenging, or difficult, or even cryptic, because that would imply it's clever. But more so because it's crappily designed so that you're constantly ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ around with random things until you figure out how to proceed. Most of it is guesswork on what you're supposed to do. Actually had to reload from an earlier save because a critical item didn't drop after a boss fight (~5 hours wasted; somehow I initiated the fight the first time without any of the dialogue). It wasn't pointed out to me either by the game; I just ended up having a hunch that's what happened after exhausting all other viable options. And I don't expect a game to hold my hand but maybe mark things, or offer something beyond "it seems unsafe, I better watch my step." Wow, thanks. I suppose it could be argued that I could always use a guide... but I personally don't use guides. If a game is so poorly designed that I need to refer to a guide to get through it without getting frustrated, then it's too poorly designed to be decently playable. Kind of takes the sport of out of it. Probably too many different gear options too. And picking it up doesn't seem to be very intuitive... nothing is marked until you hover over it, and sometimes a giant enemy is laying across your drops, obscuring it. Actually so much of it is obscured in general by terrain too. There seems to be a decent game somewhere in all this convoluted mess. Should've made dialogue less frilly, should've made objectives clearly stated, should've used basic common sense when it comes to how drops are handled, and should probably have under the hood game-checks that makes sure you don't glitch yourself out of being able to advance the questlines. Just plays like they went for "deep and rich" and ended up with "overly-complicated and painful", but were so convinced that they had the former that they didn't bother to address the latter. Was so bad that I made sure to add the other copy of this game to my hidden list so I don't accidentally play it again when I'm too old and senile to remember how bad this game was.
The "tactian" mode description should be saying: "Nobody loves you, you are alone, everybody is going to spit on you, you won't achieve anything in your miserable life, everyone and everything is better than you, you'll die alone in suffering! This is not hard mode - it's cheat mode!" I've picked tactician because at some point I've started playing games on hard mode for fun. Remembering playing DOS2 years ago as lone wolf - solo I've decided some challenge on hard mode in DOS1. But this is just ridiculous how every thing that worked as counter measure in DOS1 classic was nerfed / blocked in EE. I'm just tired of running with 8 lvl 20 chests to block npcs pathing for cheesing this broken mess. Other than that the game is pretty much fun (aside from hours of suffering) but not on broken tactic mode.

This game is a bible of information. There is so much lore that I space out when I play. The voice acting is really funny but the game play is a bit out of date and at times extremely frustrating. I've been having a lot of fun with this game. 8/10
I did a playthrough of DOS2 with my friend, and with the announcement of Divinity, we wanted to give the first game a shot. I'm so serious when I say that this game is actually the torture nexus. If you like old school difficulty, go for it - but at no point during my playthrough of the game during any of the puzzles did I feel like I actually figured out a puzzle. It's just random switches on random walls with no hints as to how you should find them out - and you have to try and think in the mind of what the developer thinks make sense rather than what actually makes sense. - Alongside boring companions, random "haha, you died" traps, I'm genuinely shocked this game got a sequel. Divinity Original Sin 2 is SO much better than this one that it genuinely doesn't feel like the same developers. you are NOT missing anything by not playing this one, I promise.
