I keep replaying this game, enjoying the fort joy then quitting in act 2 or 3, only to later only remember the joys of act 1 and replay it again. The skills have annoying hidden subtext, for instance when I cast shackles with provoke I expect to be attacked then I am not. Moving characters into back stabbing position is hard without pressing on other things. When you sneak in combat enemies just stand then instead of looking for you. Having high initiative doesnt matter as some characters will always go first, one shotting my solo rogue build. Clipping on the outfits is the norm. Progressing quests can be unintuitive tedious trial and error, for instance on the lady vengeance the way to proceed is to find a book without being told that on a random body, when there are bodies everywhere.... ...Why do I likem this game?!?!
Can’t recommend this more to people who want to get into CRPGS. The combat and how it engages with its environment is SUCH a treat. I don’t think I’ve ever played something that makes me think about my surroundings so much. The physical/magic armour system has a relatively low learning curve but still makes the tactical part fun and engaging without becoming boring. I also really enjoyed the story and characters. Minor critiques mostly do come down to the story having some plot points that feel a little bit unrefined at times— there’s a driving force in the plot that has a bit of a hole in it— but honestly it didn’t affect the overall experience for me, and I think it can be fun to theorize around it. Characters are really well done, but your ability to form a dynamically evolving relationship with them can feel a little limited (which is something they vastly improved on in BG3). I don’t think either of these things are reasons not to play, though, as someone who likes to play games across several genres mostly for story and characters.

Great game with good story.
one of the best modern crpg if you love the genre you must play this
