Dive The Depths is a super fun (and sometimes frustrating) underwater roguelike where you play as a diver exploring creepy ocean depths full of weird fish, ancient ruins, and some seriously messed-up sea monsters. The gameplay is addicting—you’ve got harpoons and anchors to fight off the horrors of the deep. And the bosses? They’re wild, imagine a giant crab that can shoot out lasers and big explosions. But here’s the thing: you can accidentally stumble into a boss fight too early. Like, "Oh cool, a red circle—WAIT WHY IS THE SCREEN SHAKING?!" and suddenly you’re getting one-shot by some huge electric eel before you have decent upgrades. It’s a little annoying, but once you learn the zones, it’s not too bad. The art and music are gorgeous—sometimes i'll just stop to watch fishes drift by while eerie chimes play. And the more you play, the more crazy upgrades you unlock, making each run feel different.
Excellent little roguelike that plays sort of like Terraria mixed with Risk of Rain, visuals are great and the gameplay loop is fun Initially had a good amount of bugs but the worst offenders seem to have been fixed with the latest patch Looking forward to more updates since the game has a lot of promise
fun game but i keep getting softlocked after picking up clam follower ability after the 2nd secret boss kill. happens every single run, absolutely unplayable.
A fun game - I got a lot of achievements just by starting the game lol - Alt-tabbing out of the game while in intro will double or 3x the speed of the intro when tabbing back in - Very consistent theme, very nice - Would be cool to see if I can hover over items and see their descriptions before buying at the shopkeeper - Pressing [Give Up] at the menu (in-game) probably could ask the player to confirm that they want to give up or not Thank you
"Dive the Depths" brings a fresh spin to the roguelike genre with its deep-sea setting, offering a unique atmosphere rarely seen in similar games. The crisp movement makes the combat feels both fluid and challenging. Boss fights are a particular highlight - each one features distinct mechanics and creative designs that demand different strategies, keeping encounters exciting and memorable. The game’s art style stands out with its neon pixel art aesthetic, giving the world a vibrant yet unsettling charm. Combined with immersive sound design and a dynamic soundtrack, the game does a great job of pulling you into its submerged world. Building your character throughout each run is extremely rewarding, especially when different upgrades and synergies come together. That said, the game does have its rough edges. Performance can be spotty, with noticeable frame stuttering and lag during world generation. A strange sound plays near the clam enemy, which may be an audio bug. Visual clutter becomes a problem in later stages - summoned allies, enemy projectiles, and effects can overwhelm the screen, making it hard to track your character. There's also no clear low-health indicator (e.g. screen flashing red), which can lead to frustrating deaths. The UI feels crowded at times, and the on-screen mission reminders feel like unnecessary hand-holding for a roguelike experience. Still, despite these issues, Dive the Depths delivers tense, heart-pounding moments and a strong sense of progression. It's a rewarding, atmospheric experience for players who enjoy a tough but fair challenge - and who can tolerate a few technical hiccups along the way.
Dive The Depths delivers a compelling deep-sea roguelike experience that thrives on atmosphere and tension. Its eerie, minimalist presentation—marked by sparse sound design and a lack of hand-holding—creates a strong sense of isolation that enhances immersion rather than detracting from it. From the outset, the game throws you into the depths with little guidance, embracing a learn-by-doing philosophy. Early runs can feel punishing as death often comes swiftly and progress resets, but this trial-and-error approach gradually fosters a deeper understanding of the game’s mechanics and item synergies. Over time, each failure feeds into a broader sense of mastery. Progression is a clear cut case of nonlinear and well implemented replayability, encouraging experimentation and repeat runs without ever feeling repetitive. While the difficulty curve is steep, it strikes a fair balance—demanding but never punishingly so. One of the standout features is the world itself. The ecosystem feels alive, with hostile creatures sometimes attacking each other, hinting at a layered food chain beneath the surface. At times, these interactions are surprising—like watching wildlife steal your kill mid-run (my moneyyyyy)—and they add texture to the game's dark, mysterious biomes. Each area feels distinct, thanks to strong environmental design and an atmospheric score that adapts to your surroundings. That said, Dive The Depths isn’t without rough edges. Navigation can be unclear (map design), and some creature animations lack the readability needed for tight, reactive combat. While these elements may contribute to the overarching sense of vulnerability, they occasionally undermine the immersive experience. Small quality-of-life improvements—such as clearer map design and more intuitive visual cues—would go a long way in smoothing out frustration without compromising difficulty. Ultimately, Dive The Depths shows real promise as a moody, mechanically satisfying roguelike experience. Its haunting tone, emergent gameplay, and rewarding progression make it stand out in a crowded genre. With continued refinement, it could become a cult favorite among fans of atmospheric indie games.
have been playing it non stop i love it very much
really great already at just version 0.2.0 - I expect something truly amazing once it hits 1.0.0!
