The worst part of being a fan of Distance is that there's nothing else that's quite like it
"Wisdom is a Circle. What you receive, You must give back."
ADDICTIVE, it's like Trackmania meets Thumper. Great 420 experience. Great music, immersion, colors. Works great on Macbook Air M1 mid settings.
On a casual level, Distance is a lot of fun. Generally smooth controls (when you're not upside down!), a great many number of levels as well as community created stages provide many hours of entertainment, and as your skills develop you'll feel like a wizard with some of the slick tricks you'll start to pull off. However, the game is almost certainly too visually noisy. In my experiences both in singleplayer and multiplayer, drivers kept crashing to the same obstacles on certain maps over and over until you rote learn to avoid them. Conveyance is too often poor for a game demanding quick reactions, and some of the more complicated maps might leave you scratching your head as to how to even finish the stage at all. I think it's fair to say the game has a larger focus on the speedrunning community, given the way timers and scoreboards are built into the game, with you being able to add ghosts of players' runs into your own single-player game to compete with. This encouragement, alongside the shiny medals you can earn are excellent incentives to shave seconds off your time, which is always a great feeling. Unfortunately, some of the levels feel as though they are designed to be as unreplayable as possible. So! many! stages! start on a long, straight road with absolutely no obstacles for upwards of five seconds. Some missions have barebones gameplay for the first minute before the stage actually starts to get interesting. None of these sections are necessarily super long in and of themselves, but given Distance's emphasis otherwise on speedrunning, the trade-off in gameplay for atmosphere was (in my opinion) absolutely not worth it. Many stages are a drag to replay for this reason. Overall a fun time. You might want to try beating your personal best, though sometimes it's better to let sleeping dogs lie.
This game is fun! It really is just a simple little parkour driving game, but it feels awesome and the music is great! This game is just a good fun time.
A very enjoyable, stylish racing game with lovely visuals, fantastic soundtrack, and a set of mad mechanics that will have your ride flying and flipping and sticking like glue (hopefully) to the crazy raceways.. It's mindbending enough to just race the tracks, but then there's Adventure Mode...
It's overstimulating as ♥♥♥♥, but also goes hard as ♥♥♥♥. Not keyboard friendly in the slightest though :(
I saw this game reviewed on Youtube and was very interested in the campaign story. I watched very few of the video to avoid spoilers. I bought the game, the presentation was amazing and the campaign is RIGHTTTT up my alley. But then it tells me I have to also sometimes fly the car to get over gaps. BIG downside for me. I persevered. THEN it tells me I have to do barrel rolls. I really wanted to like this game but I just wanted to DRIVE and go FAST. The flight takes away from all that as it's just FLOATING and the flight controls are very twitchy. Also for an arcade racer a full controller compatibility is a MUST. I used the default controller settings and the acceleration button somehow also pans the camera to the left, eventhough I triple-checked and defaulted the control settings and the right trigger in no way was bound to the camera.
