Ach, this is as classic as it can get, ken? I’ve been rale taken wi' the old school games lately—even mair than the new ones, though I still play the fresh releases frae start tae finish. Still, I find meself wanderin' back tae the predecessors every now and again. By now, I reckon most o' ye ken fine well who Merida is? No?! Well then, a wee introduction for ye: Merida’s full name is Princess Merida o' DunBroch. She’s the firstborn descendant o' Clan DunBroch, daughter tae King Fergus and Queen Elinor. If ye're wantin' tae ken mair aboot her, ye should watch Disney’s Brave (2012). It’s a braw animated movie for the whole family. By far, she’s ma absolute favourite o' all the Disney princesses. Why? Because I can relate tae her, so I can. Her, and that wee lass Vanellope von Schweetz frae Wreck-It Ralph too. Aye, even an avid horror fan like meself enjoys the light-hearted cartoons when I’ve had me fill o' the blood, gore, cheap jumpscares, and over-the-top violent massacres. I still watch the cartoons—CGI or hand-drawn—rangin' frae the adult ones tae the family-friendly sorts. I’ll watch 'em whenever the mood takes me, as long as the plot is grand frae start tae finish. Why I like Brave mair than ony o’ the ither princess tales? Because there’s no’ a lick o’ singin’ in it! It’s no’ ane o’ they annoyin’ musicals. Aye, some folk are awfy fond o’ the musical pictures, but no’ me. I find it gey distractin’ when ye’re fair focused on the plot, then a’ of a sudden, they start skippin’ aboot an’ singin’ sangs! So, aye. Musicals arenae built for the likes o’ me. But if ye fancy them yersel, then wheest, crack on with it. I’m no’ awfy fond o’ the musical yins, but I’ll gie it a go if the plot is lookin’ braw—wi' the exception o' Tenacious D and The Pick Of Destiny. Rock-on soundtracks, those! This game is fun and simplistic, ye see. The cutscenes are just hand-drawn stills wi' voice-overs, but tae me, that’s the rale sellin' point, 'cause I truly love Merida’s unique Scottish Highland accent. I’d be happy listenin' tae her bletherin' all day long! A muckle guid word for Kelly Macdonald! She’s a braw lass, that ane! She is Merida an' Merida is her ain self. Aye, 'tis because she’s the original voice for the lassie! :3 So, aye. Long story short, this game is perfect for all ages and a joy tae play if ye like adventures wi' a bit o' explorin' and shootin' stuff wi' yer trusty bow and arrow. Merida uses both a sword for melee and her bow for the ranged attacks—plus, ye can upgrade 'em any way ye like as ye go. Thank ye kindly, Disney and Behaviour Interactive Inc.! Me tomboyish vibe likey! b(^_^)d +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+--+-+-+ The review is over. Down below is just my appreciation to all of my gamer friends (...as well as strangers and trollers) here on Steam. Read or skip it, up to you. +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ Time really flies—this is my 307th review! I'm not looking for likes or popularity here on Steam; I truly appreciate those who take the time to genuinely read and engage with my thoughts. Sometimes people even give me a 'funny like,' a clown emoji, or a laugh emoticon. I never really know if they’re trying to be insulting or if they genuinely find my review hilarious. I don't overthink it, though—yet I am always respectful of my friends' reviews and learn a lot from them. My goal is simply to help fellow gamers with honest reviews so they can decide whether to pick up a game or skip it and move on. Also; I am grateful to have so many gamer friends here. Some are even generous enough to occasionally gift me excellent games albeit pricey! I am truly grateful and appreciate all of you. I do hope the universe will return your kindness, as everything we do in life eventually returns to us. Though some quietly leave, eventually unfriend me for one reason or another, that is understandable. I never force them to stay, yet I also never unfriend anyone on my friend's list—unless they're trolls (internet provokers), zealots, perverts, or simply toxic. Yeah, we cannot be friends with everyone. And sure, we have our free will to choose whoever we want to be friends with. But one thing's for sure: true friends will always stay, no matter what. Here's to our unconditional friendship across the globe and perhaps even beyond dimensions; hopefully, we can still be gaming friends until the end of time. My reviewing skills are far from perfect, but I strive to capture the essence of every game I play. Thank you for your time to visit some of mine, and I hope to keep writing many more in the future. That is, if the games stop being so good and actually let me finish writing about them. My spirit is willing, but my Steam backlog is eternal. Keep on gaming, my gamer friends! Thanks for reading! Surprisingly good game on a movie-tie in for Disney / Pixar. Funnily enough, I found out about this game on a channel that showcases game prototypes, and well, I looked into it, read some comments, and it apparently was a good game. Today, I gave it a chance, and I had a lot of fun. The mechanics are quite deep, something you do not expect on a licensed game of all things (trust me guys, there are good licensed games out there, like Sheep Raider on the PS1). I haven't watched the movie that it's based on in a very long time, but even if you don't really care about the story, there's a lot of fun to have with the gameplay aspect of it. You get a very fluid movement, multiple types of attacks (grass, fire, wind and ice), charge attacks, attacks with your sword or bow, and so on. Never had any problem moving the character around the world, and the attacks are very responsive. I also played on Normal mode, as I tend to always pick the middle between Easy and Hard, as I can experience how the game was balanced better by the developers. There's also a "Brave" difficulty, I'm not exactly sure what changes, but even on Normal mode, this game is not really a cake-walk. While I didn't exactly died once, I did take damages here and there, and played like a pro. At least on controller, the default button layout felt very good, and I was able to do jumps while using my bow, charging it, and so on. You can collect coins to purchase upgrades. One gripe I have with the upgrade system is that it's divided by "runes", so you have separate upgrades for grass, fire, wind and ice. For instance, for charge attacks, you have 4 separate upgrades for each type of charge attack. I found that to be a little unnecessary, and I kinda feel like this was put just to make the longevity of the game higher for those looking to get every upgrade. There are also Co-Op upgrades that well, I never used since I played it solo. Each level also has a couple unlockables, namely new swords, bows, outfits, and some "pieces" that makes you stronger. These are more-or-less just skins, since every sword and bow plays exactly the same, but, upon collecting each one, the damage done is increased on ALL bows, so that's a nice feature. If you prefer a weapon than the other, design-wise, you are free to choose so without sacrificing your damage output. So yeah, the game apparently has co-op, and by the looks of the upgrades, I'd assume it's sorta similar to Super Mario Galaxy and how the 2nd player can assist on things...? Another small critique is how there's no proper button layout on screen. It's all done by color code and it feels weird. It's hard to know what options are for A, B, X and Y, and in some cases, the shape of these icons are in the same way of the triggers or shoulder keys, but you still use A, B, X or Y. The graphics are also not very good. While the particle effects and general environment looks nice for a game from 2012, the main character's model is... ugly, to say the least. The hair in specific isn't very good, and for models as a whole, sometimes the vertices clip here and there (seems to happen only in a couple levels). I don't think graphics really matter TOO much, but yeah, it's something to keep in mind. It's a little short (I'd say 3-4 hours, if not going for getting every upgrade, but collecting everything that the levels offer), but it also doesn't overstate its welcome. Due to its length, I would recommend getting on a sale. I may go back in getting all the upgrades, who knows. For now, I give it a 8/10. For a licensed game, it has very fluid movement, a wide variety of different attacks, enemy weaknesses, responsive controls, consistent 60FPS (except on cutscenes that for some reason it's like a weird 20-30FPS hybrid). It has some of that "licensed game" flair, like voice acting throughout the game (even in gameplay, not just cutscenes), and some cheap menu / pickup sound effects, but if you can get over those, it's a game you should definitely try.
i wish i could give this game to every girl in the world they seriously need to experience this its total magic for the soul i feel like this is how lego batman the videogame is for me im actually gonna cry i was born to be a girl-dad 😭😭💗💗💗💖💖
This is one of the more challenging Disney games I have played, but in a fun way. However, it is pretty much impossible to try and play on a controller. It is playable with a keyboard but takes a while to understand the controls. I will definitely come back to this game one day and play it through again.
It's unusual to see Robotron: 2084-like mechanic in a Disney video game, a game about a Disney princess to boot, but here we are.
🎮 Reseña de Disney•Pixar Brave: The Video Game

No Tan Valiente
