spoopy and fun, a little hard and the puzzles are challenging, defi inspired by resident evil
ive wanted to play this game since launch, but only got to do it now. i loved it. its challenging, scary, and made me scream more times than id like to admit. incredible <3
This game was actually better than I expected. I also gifted it to a friend and I didn't wait for it to be on sell since the asking price was fair. Instead of buying the 8$ directors cut I opted to just get the original so I could also gift it. Might as well spread around the first one before buying the super duper special one. Some things you should be aware of, these things don't ruin the quality of the game to me as I wasn't expecting to get sucked into the game for over 30 hours and binge play it. Reason being is cause I love nightmares. Darkwood, pathologic, shadowman, blood omen, resident evil, silent hill, amnesia, I've beat all these games and I love the dark atmosphere in games like these. Nightmares can have an impact on peoples psyches, its our minds preparing us for eventual death. Its not exactly a positive thought but its true, one day we will die, be it by nature, human, old age, illness etc. One day we will die, and a nightmare is just preparing you for that (my thoughts on nightmares), the worst nightmares, are the loops that you can't wake up from. So when I get a good horror game, I want to beat it and see what happens. That's why I really enjoyed this game. It does more with the doom engine than I've ever seen a mod do, besides brutal doom but brutal doom is just doom. Well doom with super badass added everything, beat brutal doom several times and loved it. Project brutality is also great. But this isn't a doom mod. Anyone who tries to say this is just a doom mod is wrong. This is more like system shock than doom, and resident evil. It just uses dooms engine, no different than many games now that use Unreals engine. The thing is this game isn't just doom re hybrid, its a lot of things. Its system shock, and amnesia (there are some enemies that can kill you in one hit, well at least 1). And to anyone saying, the game has limited weapons. This isn't like quake or doom that gives you tons of super nuke weapons or a black hole gun. This games based on survival about a normal dude in a shabby car getting thrust into a bizarre nightmare scenario. I don't wanna spoil it, but every weapon you get is practical but well handled and fun. The pistol actually sounds like a real pistol. Sure the weapon animations look dated and there's no intricate reloading... But they at least got the sounds right. And the sounds in this game are very authentic, music is nice as well and very creepy. I'm not going to go over the storyline or plot, but if you played quake2, just imagine that but with animals instead of machines. You are fighting a bunch of people who basically died or near dead who got combined with animal parts and now you're just a glorified mercy killer. Its messed up but the guy responsible is a real sicko and he needs to be put down. And these people if they really are people still in there need mercy and to be put out of their misery. Just like the strogg. Its a really chilling and atmospheric game. There is some pretty brutal pixels and a good deal of morbid violence, towards women as well. But you can actually save a woman, and the protagonist isn't a bad guy he wants to save other people as well as himself. So don't go into this thinking this is some edgy gore porn. None of this is justified the villain is an insane piece of garbage a villain you should hate more than anything. And his cruelty oddly pushes you along, the anger you feel at the cheapness of this game (it is a hard game) mixed with the mutilation he is doing to innocent men and women, really makes you want to kill this scumbag. Editing my review, well this game did it, it went and forced me to buy the directors cut. Its that damn good.
A great, giant Doom map that has a Resident Evil 1 vibe sprinkled with lots of gore. A fantastic retro-horror-FPS game.
Rare that I have to review a game made in my own province ! The game is great. Very good content ratio for the price. Some of the areas is confusing to navigate trough, but overall its a solid design. I think is demo was the better experience than the whole show, but the last couple areas made it all worth it. Artwork is vile and disturbing, and that's a good thing ! I hope to see more releases from you in the future.
This game is extreme, and I love how gritty and horror movie like it is, as a survival horror game this one is a masterpiece. my hours are not reflected correctly due to my offline play
Insane awesome game !
What was supposed to be a simple journey toward a peaceful vacation quickly descends into a nightmare of blood, madness, and grotesque experimentation. Alone on a deserted road late at night, your trip comes to an abrupt halt when your car suddenly breaks down deep within a remote forest. With no signs of civilization nearby and darkness swallowing the road around you, the only option seems to be continuing on foot in search of help. The silence of the woods feels oppressive, broken only by the distant sounds of wind moving through the trees and the unsettling realization that something feels terribly wrong. Then, somewhere beyond the darkness, a horrifying scream echoes through the forest. Driven by curiosity and concern, you decide to investigate the source of the scream, believing someone may be in danger. It is the worst decision you could possibly make. That single moment leads you directly into a terrifying world hidden beneath the surface of the isolated wilderness — an abandoned asylum transformed into a laboratory of unimaginable horror. Inside its rotting walls lurks a deranged doctor consumed by obsession and insanity, a man who conducts grotesque experiments on both humans and animals in pursuit of creating unnatural lifeforms. Flesh is stitched together without mercy, bodies are dismantled and reconstructed into monstrous abominations, and every corridor of the asylum reeks of suffering and death. What remains of the once-forgotten institution has become a twisted monument to madness where science and cruelty merge into something inhuman. The experience is designed as a brutal survival-horror game heavily inspired by classic horror titles and old exploitation cinema. Drawing influence from early Resident Evil games, The Suffering series, and low-budget B-movie horror films, the game embraces an unapologetically grim atmosphere built around tension, limited resources, disturbing imagery, and constant danger. Rather than relying solely on fast action, the gameplay focuses on exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival inside an environment where every room feels unpredictable and hostile. Built using the GZDoom engine and presented through a first-person perspective, the game combines retro-inspired horror aesthetics with modern atmospheric design. The environments are dark, claustrophobic, and filled with disturbing environmental storytelling. Blood-stained hallways, decaying hospital rooms, hidden laboratories, and corpse-filled chambers create the overwhelming sense that countless atrocities have taken place within the asylum long before your arrival. Every corner of the building feels contaminated by pain and madness, with scattered notes, broken equipment, and mutilated remains slowly revealing the horrifying truth behind the doctor’s experiments. Exploration becomes one of the most important aspects of survival. The asylum is filled with locked doors, hidden pathways, cryptic clues, and environmental puzzles that players must solve in order to progress deeper into the nightmare. Many puzzles are connected directly to the asylum’s horrifying history, forcing players to piece together fragments of information while surrounded by danger. Progress often requires backtracking through increasingly dangerous sections of the facility, creating a constant sense of vulnerability and tension as players slowly uncover the asylum’s secrets. Combat is intense and deliberately unforgiving. The creatures inhabiting the asylum are not simple zombies or generic monsters, but horrifying stitched-together abominations created from mutilated human and animal remains. Every encounter feels grotesque and unpredictable, with enemies often appearing suddenly from the darkness or emerging from hidden sections of the environment. Ammunition and resources are limited, forcing players to carefully decide when to fight and when to flee. Survival depends as much on resource management and awareness as it does on combat skill. The atmosphere is relentlessly oppressive throughout the experience. Dim lighting, disturbing sound design, and grotesque creature designs constantly reinforce the feeling that the player is trapped inside a living nightmare. Distant screams echo through empty corridors, metallic sounds reverberate from unseen rooms, and every quiet moment feels filled with anticipation for the next horrifying encounter. The game does not shy away from graphic imagery or disturbing themes, embracing the brutal aesthetic of classic exploitation horror films while creating a deeply uncomfortable and immersive experience. One of the more unusual aspects of the package is the variety of included versions and additional content. Players receive not only the original edition of the game but also a censored version that removes nudity while preserving the violent horror elements for those who prefer a less explicit experience. There is also a retro-inspired old-school edition featuring Game Boy-style graphics, transforming the terrifying atmosphere into something strangely nostalgic while still retaining the game’s disturbing tone. In addition, the package includes the original Halloween 2017 demo that introduced the canon story of Vincent Hyle, along with the BitterSweet Misery expansion pack that expands the experience with additional content and story elements. The inclusion of multiple editions gives the game an unusual amount of replayability and variety despite its relatively focused horror structure. Each version presents the same horrifying world through a slightly different visual or thematic lens, allowing players to experience the nightmare in multiple forms while appreciating the retro horror inspirations that shaped the project’s identity. At its core, the experience is a tribute to old-school survival horror — a game built around fear, exploration, grotesque experimentation, and psychological discomfort rather than cinematic spectacle. It embraces the atmosphere of classic horror games where isolation, limited resources, and terrifying environments create tension far more effectively than constant action. The asylum itself becomes the true centerpiece of the experience, a decaying labyrinth filled with secrets, madness, and unimaginable suffering waiting to be uncovered room by room. For fans of retro survival horror, disturbing psychological themes, and grotesque creature design, the game offers a brutal and deeply atmospheric journey into a world consumed by insanity and scientific cruelty. It is a horrifying descent through darkness, flesh, and madness where survival is never guaranteed and every new discovery reveals something even more terrifying hidden within the asylum’s collapsing walls. Rating: 7/10
7/10 While I normally dislike the idea of paying for a mod, dismantled does stand out well and feels like a classic survival horror in first person. Contains 2 modes, one that is very NSFW and one that censors some of the body horror and nudity. That balancing is a bit screwy and the puzzles suck but the atmosphere is good and is quit tense. Worth the few bucks for a top quality mod.
