Disgaea PC

Its hard not to love this game. Its full of character and personality and even though this isn't the complete edition and the port looks like it's from 1997, I don't mind that because the art is still decent and the personality is all there. However. This game absolutely sucks and I find it to be pretty much unplayable because of the issues around saving. There is no way to save between stages. And there is no way to exit a stage. Ever. Once you start you're locked in, even if you're headed for a game over. Either way you're getting booted to the title screen and losing every minute of progress you've worked on so far. If you power through multiple stages and reach a tipping point where you might have miscalculated, you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and there is nothing you can do about it whatsoever. The game hates you. But also, it is fun. And charming and I love it. But I hate it and I feel like I've spend 2/3rds of my runtime replaying sections that I lost due to saving issues. So I won't recommend this VERSION of the game, but this is an awesome game. Just wait for the complete edition to go on sale for console.

This game was surprisingly fun dispite it being a PS2 port from 2003. The gameplay, story, characters and leveling is all great. Main cast of characters are pretty amusing throughout the story, English voice acting was very well done. Took under 50 hours to complete the story, get ready to read guides online to 100% and grind the item world for leveling and power. If you like number go up and grind the post game is for you. Can we get Disgaea 3 and D2 ports plz?

On both keyboard and controller, at least on Linux, I seem to have technical difficulties of my mouse not locking into the proper tiles/characters. The controls feel a bit obtuse but of course that is primarily because this is a very old game, I would recommend to anyone reading this review to play something more modern.

The story and characters in this game are my favorite by far compared to the rest of the series. It's pretty dated, but still worth playing. If you think the jokes, visuals, and characters are unhinged in this game, wait until you see the rest of the games! I strongly recommend to play if you enjoy isometric RPGs!
