Disco Elysium is one of the greatest games ever made. That is exactly why I cannot recommend giving money to the current ZA/UM. This game is a miracle. The writing, the politics, the sadness, the humor, the humanity, the entire decaying soul of Revachol. All of it came from artists who built something genuinely irreplaceable. And then, in the most grotesquely Disco Elysium plot twist imaginable, the people behind that miracle were pushed out of their own creation while the corporate shell kept wearing the game’s skin like a stolen lieutenant’s coat. ZA/UM today feels less like the studio that made Disco Elysium and more like the final boss Disco Elysium was warning you about. Capital hollowing out art, keeping the brand, keeping the storefront, keeping the profit, and hoping the audience is too distracted by discounts to remember the names of the people who actually made the thing beautiful. So yes, the game is a masterpiece. But buying it now feels like tipping the landlord after he evicts the architect, steals the blueprints, and starts selling tours of the house. Play Disco Elysium if you already own it. Respect the artists. Remember Robert Kurvitz, Aleksander Rostov, Helen Hindpere, and the original creative forces who gave this world its soul. But do not confuse the corpse currently wearing the ZA/UM name with the people who made this game immortal. A 10/10 work of art trapped inside a company I would rate lower than Measurehead’s social skills. And if you really, truly want to experience it now, then at the very least do not let the current owners mistake your curiosity for your support. There are seas in this world. Some people learn to sail them.
The best book I've ever played, fundamentally changed who I am as a person. Who needs real world politics, I am Kras Mazov and I will bring Mazovian socio-economics to the real world and build 0.00% of communism
Unlike anything I've played before -- proof that video games are art. A little laggy and buggy at times -- proof that video games are code.
Striking. There isn't anything quite like this. This is a story which can only be told and experienced by a game. It's just one of those games man, you gotta go in blind. If there's any game you can go in blind for ever, let it be this one. This is as good as it gets in this department. Absolute cinema. I'm writing this through tears after finishing the game. Please play it, please please please play this game man. Especially if you're introspective, emotional, sensitive, grief-stricken, lonely, hopeless, misunderstood - or all of the above. Play this game, it was written just for you, and you can count on that.
Disco Elysium is one of the most unique RPGs I've ever played. Its writing is incredibly sharp, every conversation feels meaningful, and the way your skills become their own voices in your head makes every decision feel interesting. Instead of focusing on combat, it keeps you invested through its characters, world-building, and the freedom to role-play however you want. It explores big ideas like identity, politics, loss, and hope without feeling preachy, trusting the player to draw their own conclusions. It's funny, emotional, thoughtful, and unlike anything else I've played, making it an experience that's hard to forget.
amazing game, however stolen from the actual creators
The people who own this IP are awful human beings and they keep pushing "updates" to this game to advertise their other titles. I wonder if they stole those as well?
I just don't get the appeal of this game, couldn't get past 1.5hrs. Everything and everyone is ugly, depressing and "super deep". It's kinda like that Coraline Movie from 2009, where everyone is a broken ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, I want to punch every 2nd character in the face. Oh wow, you play (at least in the beginning) as a flawed cop, which has been done to death. Like playing a "Tatort" (German TV Series, which will put you asleep in 9/10 episodes). Super slow. Takes 15 minutes to walk around the corner. And the publishers seem like ♥♥♥♥♥, so no thanks.
My Review of Disco Elysium To be honest, I used to see this game all over review sites and kept hesitating to buy it. I was looking at it in a pretty stupid, superficial way, thinking it just wasn't for me. But man, once I finally pulled the trigger and tried it, it completely blew me away. It instantly jumped into my Top 3 games of all time. Why this game is a masterpiece: The Characters: The writing is incredible, but (Kim Kitsuragi) is on another level. He is such a well-crafted, beautiful character. The dynamic you build with him feels so real, and he quickly became one of my favorite companions in gaming history. The Voice Acting: The voice work here is absolutely insane. Every single voice actor knocked it out of the park, adding so much depth and grit to the atmosphere. It pulls you into the world completely. Arabic Language Support: I had already played through a huge chunk of the game when the developers at ZA/UM Studio dropped the official Arabic localization. Huge respect and thank you to them for this. It made a massive difference in catching all the complex layers of the story. The Verdict: Disco Elysium literally changed how I look at gaming. Because of this experience, I learned a huge lesson: never judge a game from the outside until you actually play it yourself. For me, this is a flawless 10/10 in every single aspect. Story, dialogue, atmosphere, and characters. If you want a game with actual depth, you need to play this.
"Something beautiful is about to happen." That single line is one of the most beautiful quotes I've ever seen in a video game, and somehow it perfectly captures the heart of Disco Elysium. This game is a genuine masterpiece. It's not just an RPG. It's an unforgettable journey through grief, hope, failure, politics, identity, and what it means to be human. Every choice you make feels meaningful, shaping not only the story but also the person your detective becomes. One of the things that makes Disco Elysium so unique is its skill system. Your own thoughts and emotions become voices in your head, each with its own personality, opinions, and agenda. Sometimes they guide you toward the truth, sometimes they mislead you, and sometimes they reveal the darkest parts of yourself. With so many different skills and thought combinations, every playthrough feels fresh, offering new dialogue, different perspectives, and moments you might never have seen before. The writing is some of the best I've ever experienced in any game. It can make you laugh one moment, leave you questioning your beliefs the next, and then completely break your heart. The characters feel deeply human flawed, complicated, and unforgettable and the world of Revachol feels alive with history, pain, and the faint possibility of hope. Disco Elysium isn't afraid to explore the darker side of people, but it also reminds us that even after our lowest moments, redemption and change are still possible. That's what makes it so powerful. I honestly can't recommend this game enough. It's one of those rare experiences that stays with you long after the credits roll. If you haven't played Disco Elysium yet, you're missing out on one of the greatest storytelling experiences gaming has to offer. It isn't just a game—it's a work of art that everyone should experience at least once.
