Abandoned early access game
To interact with anything you have to manually walk up to it and press interact, this then drags the camera aggressively towards the ground. After a few minutes this was just uncomfortable to play. Constant jarring camera movement is never a good decision for gameplay. Also, I bought 2 copies to play this with a friend but the multiplayer after multiple attempts at starting a new game, just loads in to a blank world with glitched lighting/colours as if we're flying through a starfield. So that was quite literally unplayable too.
My Experience Ever since playing Mindustry, I've been trying to recapture the sense of satisfaction it gave me. I loved the pacing of the game - the slow and measured start, that escalated into new and improved technologies while you slowly upgraded your initial infrastructure. At the conclusion of your time with each map, you'd look back over your network of conveyors and machines and marvel at how something so complex and elegant could've started with something so modest. My co-op partner and I tried to recapture this magic with Factorio with no success, and now again we've tried and failed with Dinky Guardians. Although I was initially confused as to how I could dislike these games that were so similar to Mindustry on the surface, I think I've uncovered the key difference. In Mindustry you're given a baseline to work with! Although your initial drills and conveyors are very low in power and efficiency, they don't require any additional input from the player to continue working. In Factorio and Dinky Guardians, nothing works without your input. The Dinkys, your low-powered basic starter unit in the game, require constant feeding to maintain their productivity. There is something about having this first level of scaffolding that seems to be the difference (for me and my co-op partner) between an engaging and strategic experience with a sense of momentum and a tedious mess. And a mess Dinky Guardians is - just take a look at the sixth screenshot on the store page! Just what is happening there? Who is doing what? If some of this infrastructure was destroyed (as another reviewer mentioned), how obvious would it be how to recreate it? With relatively constant attacks from the Zumbys (that escalate in power), it's a given that sooner or later you will need to rebuild. Just like streamer Wanderbots on YouTube, my co-op partner and I also wanted to abandon our initial base (planet) after leaving. Everything felt so laborious and fragile that I just wanted to get out of there before something else inevitably broke down. But unfortunately, the second planet only held more of the same annoyance. While I'm glad that developer Endless Loop Studios is attempting to create a new entry within the sparse automation and resource gathering/managing genre, and we appreciated the lack of any notable bugs here, Dinky Guardians just didn't resonate with us.
Janky camera controls mixed with having to move up to everything to interact with it is very much not a fun combo. Multiplayer is also pretty much unplayable as it loads into a void if you try and start a new game in there. the last hot fix was a year ago. this game feels like it is an early access game that's been classified as a full release when it is very VERY clearly not. avoid at all costs.
The game is too frustrating. * Everything is too slow except for the progression of the enemy waves. * The interface is clunky and it's too easy to get stuck in the wrong mode and be unable to do what's needed (e.g. attack the enemies). * No way to skip the tutorial after having suffered through it one or two times. No way to even skip past the tutorial text boxes; you have to wait for their timer. * The levels seem designed to not allow you to have enough dinkies to actually automate everything that needs to be automated. Even using miners and grabbers, once you open up the second planet, there's too many machines that need interactions on both planets in order to get resources to where they need to go and process them and defend yourself against previously mentioned too-quickly-increasing waves of enemies. I sort of wish my first game had gotten to its null-reference exceptions (yes, it's buggy also) in time for me to realize that i should get a refund.
Probably the slickest UI/interface design I've ever seen. Intuitive, simple controls for a game that could have been pretty complex to control. Well done!

Goodday, First of all let me say I've only played about one hour with a friend, so the words in here shouldn't be taken as gospel. However I've encountered quite allot of bugs in the short time that I played with my friend. Plus there seemed allot of quality of life things missing. I thought the game would be more polished on release. Guess I was wrong. This game has allot of potential but seeing how it is now fully released and (in my eyes) not where it should be that says enough. Issues: -you cant start a multiplayer game before you done the single player once. otherwise it'll set you in a void. -the multiplayer crashed twice, seemingly through no fault of our own. -sometimes the health bars on enemies don't show. -sometimes green arrows linger until you reset the game. - if you deconstruct a mining device and place it again it is filled with power (at least in multiplayer). QOL (I haven't played allot so this might not be 100% correct): -you cannot see a list of dinkies and what they are doing. Which is quite weird considering managing them is seemingly a big part of the game. -you cannot seem to move the research center. -sometimes things are difficult to select due to confronting hitboxes or something. -You have no control over how fast the tutorial text goes. Sometimes I wasn't done reading *English isn't my native tongue* but the tutorial kept moving on. -the options menu is almost non existent you have 2 sound options and thats it. -sometimes escape closes a menu, sometimes it doesn't. -you select a research but you can't see what research you are doing (doesn't matter much I know). And quite a few small points like the last one. Points which in my head should be easily solvable for someone as good as the developer of this game. Points which (in my opinion) should have been ironed out before the release of this game. Anyways this wasn't meant as negative, but considering the experience I've had in like the first hour of multiplayer Dinky Guardians this game is not done. I hope the developer gives it the love it needs and i'll perhaps revisit this game. I won't refund because I've learned allot from the developer about Unity and gamedev in general.
