A well done demo
Just a quick review of this one, this is essentially a demo for Tunche, a game that's currently on Kickstarter. I'm impressed with it and I'm excited for the full game. +Beautiful art and the hand-drawn animation is great. +Horde mode and endless mode to try. The horde mode is good fun, you get some xp to unlock some skills at the start and then fight through eight waves and a boss fight. +Some nice attack variety/combos, the combat is fun overall. +Your attacks aren't limited to 'one lane', you have a pretty good reach which makes beat em ups much more enjoyable in my opinion. +Steam achievements and leaderboards. No negatives to mention really. If you're interested in backing the game, this is a great way to gauge your own interest in the game. If you're not interested in backing the game, you'll probably still have some fun with this one. Either way, it's free and I'd recommend giving it a shot. I'd really like to see more Kickstarter games having half-game-half-demo things like this in the future. Kemo's Corner.
¡Awesome game! Impressive art style, great combat system and challenging levels. A great combination of Beat em up + roguelike. I'm going to support the game on Kickstarter. Can't wait for the final version :)

This arena mode is essentially a combat showcase for the upcoming "beat'em up" game. I think the full game will be similar to Castle Crashers in terms of gameplay (maybe with fewer poop jokes). I will say that hit-boxes in this game are much better though, I am not going over and under as much when I hit things, almost like the attacks have an arc. The character has a versatile skill tree with many combos and moves to unlock. According to the store page, there will be 4 playable characters, so I am hoping that each of them will have a unique tree. While the combat feels very fun and responsive, the actual endless mode here is very boring. It literally takes like 30 minutes for the game to get somewhat challenging - I do not see myself grinding it because it's such a big time gap. Overall, a pretty good teaser for a game with some polished mechanics, even though it managed to crash 2 times on me.
This is a fun preview for what the devs are working towards for a much bigger game. Not too much present right now, but the art style looks really good and the combat is fun with the hopes of it being expanded in the full game. You'll get a solid 1-2 hours out of this with the horde mode and endless mode. Can't wait to see what the devs have in store for the future!
- Great art direction (pretty color palette, fluid animations and overall feel) - Nice variablity of playstyle (different branches to upgrade and discover) - Solid combo system (encourages using different abilities and skills and not buttonmash same thing) and that's for FREE! What's not to like?
Tunche: Arena is a round based combat which is on Kickstarter right now. For a Kickstarter demo game it is pretty fun. Art style and sounds are great. Enemies and combat have classic 2D combat style feel and fight mechanics are decent. Keyboard and buttons need a little bit adjustment but still ok. Upgrade mechanics are pleasing but needs several more features. Story and characters need more detail. You are playing as a vague protagonist. Overall, you can pass your time while playing horde mode and endless mode. SCORE: 6/10
Honestly from what I played in the Arena mode was pretty dang fun. I can see where this game is heading and I like the trajectory. The art looks like free hand come to life. The animations are great and gameplay is fun and energetic. I just wished the whole thing moved a little faster, I felt myself button mashing more than I liked. Overall though I am excited and the game is beautiful.
Introduction
Tunche: Arena is a free side arena game that gives players just a taste of the way the game Tunche will play like and the combat system. There isn't much content here, but there's just enough to give you a taste of what Tunche will be like.
Gameplay
There are two game modes, Horde and Endless. Horde mode gives you a set amount of XP that you have to spend in one go in the skill tree, from there you'll have to fight 8 waves of enemies and then the boss in order to win. The skill tree is nice, there isn't an overwhelming amount of skills and abilities for you to pick from but enough for it to suit a few playstyles that you might inherit. As you fight wave after wave new enemies will get introduced, unfortunately there doesn't seem to be great variety in enemy types but still enough to keep it interesting. Would like there to of been more enemy types, as in endless mode you can get quite far (I got to like wave 36) and seeing the same old enemies just with increasing damage didn't really make me want to keep playing through the endless waves. The boss that you fight at the end of the horde mode is no joke. It's an interesting boss battle that has multiple stages, doesn't overstay it's welcome and really opens up to other boss battles that we are bound to see in the release of Tunche. It raises the bar high for other boss battles that we will see in the upcoming full game. Controls in this game feel great, smooth, responsive and you can string together a nice amount of combos depending on what skills you want to invest in. You can really feel each attack that you lay upon the enemy as you string them into a powerful combo to finish them off! Playing on a controller is probably recommended, as it's a fighting brawl game, but I suppose the keyboard controls wouldn't be too bad.
Graphics
Hand-drawn graphics look amazing, and everything is done with a great amount of detail. Looks colourful, vibrant and just in general looks fantastic. The animations for your attacks, enemies attacks, that little bird you have are all smooth and seamless. I also love the way the main character just looks, like they just don't care what's happening around them.
Music
The soundtrack for the game is great, really gives off that atmosphere of being in a jungle area fighting frogs, monkeys and various other creators that you come across. Can't wait to hear more music in the full release of Tunche!
Pros
+ FREE!! + Decent skill tree to fit your playstyle + Interesting and challenging boss battle + Tight and smooth controls + Great little arena mode to give people a taste of the full game + Great 2D hand-drawn art style and animations! + Music is fantastic
Cons
- Not too much variety in common enemies
Closing Thoughts
Tunche: Arena is just the starter of to the main course, it gives you a taste of the way that the full game will play and the way that the combat will work. Controls and fantastic, visually the game looks amazing and overall everything in this game is great. And besides, it's FREE so why not give it a shot and try it for yourself. Saludos!
