Desu Vult

If you like indie games and turned-based strategy, you should probably give this game a go. It is set in a fantasy world with bizarre enemies and funny characters. At times, there is an old-school difficulty level so you better pay attention! With an interesting gameplay and a fresh sense of humor (which is not for the ultrasensitive souls), Desu Vult is an interesting experience that will keep you occupied.

2 Hours of Gameplay: https://youtu.be/mU-lErFB_dc The RPG elements are somewhat light, with the focus really being on the Turned Based strategy. Think of of it as similar to the way Fire Emblem and Shining Force are set up combat wise. I think it does the combat pretty well, though there are some choices that feel a little strange. Combat is pretty simple. You control units, send them to do capture buildings, earn gold doing different things, and of course fight enemies. You also have the ability to recruit units as you play, and use a spellbook to cast spells. It does a really good job here, and I have enjoyed the combat so far. It falters a bit with the RPG elements. As you play through the various battles you'll earn experience. This is used to increase stats, restore health, etc. of your units during the battle. At the end of the battle you'll also have experience pushed towards gaining a level that results in a point for the upgrade tree. It feels pretty unclear to figure out how much experience you're earning, and ultimately what things are actually worth doing during a battle. Should you chop down all the trees? Should you kill the baby seals? Or should you just try to get to the exit as soon as possible? Without more stat information I simply can't figure it out. The writing is fairly good, with a comical style that gives the world a kind of silly vibe to it. Some characters are better written than others, and there's a certain point where you can ask about a Prophecy but nobody tells you anything about it because everyone already knows about it. Except you, I guess. That particular bit drove me a bit crazy. There's also some bible quotes tossed around, which I personally found to be odd. However, given the context of the game I suppose it makes sense. The game's set after the Apocalypse, Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse and all that jazz. But, I guess because the game has dangerous penguins, elves, and talking trees I just assumed we were on some fantasy world and not a stranger version of Earth. Really, there's a lot of charm here and I think if you like Turn Based Strategy games there's a very good chance it'll grab your attention fairly easily.

Don't dismiss this game because of the art, it actually has a ton of charm and is pretty fun. The main draw is the story but it also features a versus mode with 4 factions. Story missions are short and usually aren't too difficult, I wish it was a bit longer and featured the other two factions a bit more but it's pretty good nonetheless. P.S. I love you, Ebola-chan.
