loved this game when i had it on disc. doesnt seem to run very well as a steam download.

The best space shooter ever to exist ever. There is no argument. Freespace 2 was the only game that surpassed it. If you do the open source code it takes on new life. Once again possibly one of the best games ever made and I still do play throughs more then once a year.

apparently the off-site version is better than this one that they're selling with DRM for 11 dollars I guess I got ripped off. What a shame. it was a good game -- what a rotten way to die.

Descent: Freespace – The Great War (including Silent Threat) For me, Descent: Freespace – The Great War was the second space flight sim I ever played—Wing Commander being the first, and still my all-time favorite. That said, Freespace came very close. I spent a lot of time completing its missions and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I originally owned the game on DVD along with its expansion, Silent Threat. Unfortunately, the disc eventually stopped working. So when I saw it available on Steam, I had to get it again. Even today, the game holds up surprisingly well. The graphics and gameplay still offer a solid experience. Sure, there are mods available to upgrade the visuals, but there's something special about playing the original version. It brings back great memories of hours spent in epic space battles. It’s definitely a game worth playing. It’s a shame that after Freespace 2, we never got a Freespace 3.

I LOVE this game. It has ruined space fighting and aerial combat games for me because it just raised the bar so high, also has a good story. I used to play it all the time way back in the day, I had very few computer games and this was my most played game. I'm gonna try to get it to work with my PC when I get stuff up and running again. This game is an absolute gem. Highly recommend.

y'a des gens qui regardent les com de ce genre de jeu qui ont 75ans? Jeu de mon enfance, l'histoire était vraiment cool pour le jeune que j'étais et subjectivement parlant, elle me transporte toujours aujourd'hui. Bien déçu que la licence ai flop mais bon... life is life.

I played this game with my brother back in 1998. We had a joystick for the family PC and it was one of the coolest things ever. I was just a little kid at the time and was terrible but it was fun anyway. I purchased this version on Steam back in 2020 and could not get it to run on Windows 10 and was very sad about it. I hid it in my Steam library and forgot about it until a few days ago. I installed it on my Windows 11 machine and it works great. Its making me want to get a modern flight stick to play. I was immediately transported back to 1998, albeit with better control skills, and am living up the nostalgia. It still holds up today as one of the best space flight dogfighting sims ever made. The weapons, the ships, the story, the controls, the squad commands, everything was top notch, even to today's standards. R.I.P Volition, this classic will live in my heart forever. Thanks for the memories!

Corneria, fourth planet of the Lylat system. The evil Andross turned this once thriving system into a wasteland of near extinction. General Pepper of the Cornerian army was successful in exiling this maniacal scientist to the barren, deserted planet Venom. Five years later, General Pepper noticed strange activity coming from Venom. James McCloud, Pigma Dengar, and Peppy Hare of the Star Fox team were sent to investigate. Upon their arrival, Pigma betrayed the team and James and Peppy were captured by Andross. Peppy barely escaped Venom and returned home to tell James’ son Fox about his father’s fate. A few years have passed. Andross has again invaded the Lylat system. General Pepper has turned to a new Star Fox team headed by Fox McCloud to save Corneria and to free the Lylat system once again.
