I agree with others that this game should have been included in the original Demeo game and feels, at most, like DLC. However, if you played and liked the original Demeo, then you'll probably like this. In short, this is a series of skirmish maps, with 2 heroes and their minions versus a like set of enemies. At the beginning of each match, you may get to select your heroes, minions, and cards--or not, depending on the map. Matches are short, about 10-20 minutes at most, since the map gets slowly consumed by fire as the rounds progress. It's an interesting concept that guarantees that the action keeps moving and that there are no stalemates. I like it. If you like turn-based games that include fantasy themes and tactical combat, this is a good one. If you've played Demeo (which I recommend), then this is somewhat more of the same. The AI is pretty decent, and there are enough heroes, maps, cards, monsters, etc. for hours of play. However, do wait for a discount.
Game seems kinda fun, but I do want to point out it is NOT friendly to new players. Played 2 games and got 2 uhrak as opponents twice, did not want to face them again because they literally zip everywhere and heal after every hit, and I did lose because they got like 4 critical hits, but the bs mechanics from normal demeo against me just lets me know that it really could happen either way. Regardless, unlocks need to be improved, and I would like the initial shop to maybe not be so random in a way that allows me to better build my team? And maybe better matchmaking. Regular demeo is fun and this one is also fun when I'm not playing against the op hero. Might make a better review once I gain more experience but the short end of the stick is game is mean, rng is cruel, and is not fair to new players, but is still a fun game regardless. Probably best to play with friends. (Then again I see reviews saying it's near impossible to unlock other heroes this way...)
Its a solid VR title. Looks great and easy to play, it's turned out to be pretty fun. I would recommend it to any VR owner.
You have to WIN roughly 120 games just to get all the base Demeo characters unlocked. Ranked = Just play Elementals and run around until, really fun and balanced matchmaking having no objective :D Seems like this mode should have been added to the base Demeo. 120 wins to unlock all the base characters. 120 wins to unlock all the characters you have already played with the last game for hours. There are some design choices... The reviews make it pretty clear what the Dev team should do, but I guess they want this project to "die" on the hill they created. See it all the time, sad stuff.
Only got for the singleplayer aspect, which is alright at best.
Demeo Battles, developed and published by Resolution Games, takes the tabletop-inspired foundation of its predecessor and reshapes it into a competitive, fast-paced strategy experience. Instead of cooperative dungeon crawling, the focus here is direct confrontation—small-scale tactical skirmishes where positioning, timing, and resource management determine the outcome. It retains the spirit of a board game brought to life, but reorients that identity toward head-to-head play, resulting in something that feels both familiar and distinctly more immediate. The core gameplay revolves around turn-based battles played on compact maps, where each player commands a team of heroes supported by a deck of cards. Every turn is governed by a limited number of action points, forcing players to carefully consider whether to move, attack, summon units, or play abilities. While the rules are easy to understand, the interactions between mechanics create a surprising level of depth. Terrain, line of sight, and unit placement all play a critical role, and even a single misstep can shift the balance of a match. The addition of minions and environmental hazards adds further complexity, ensuring that encounters rarely feel static. One of the most defining aspects of Demeo Battles is its pacing. Matches are designed to be short and decisive, often concluding within a relatively brief timeframe. This is reinforced by mechanics that actively prevent passive play, such as a shrinking battlefield that forces players into confrontation. The result is a constant sense of momentum, where matches escalate naturally toward a conclusion rather than dragging on. This design makes the game particularly well-suited for quick sessions, offering the satisfaction of strategic gameplay without the extended time commitment often associated with the genre. Preparation plays a key role in shaping each match. Before entering a battle, players select heroes and construct a deck, determining the tools they will have available. This layer of customization allows for different strategies, from aggressive setups focused on direct damage to more defensive or control-oriented approaches. During the match, however, adaptability becomes just as important as preparation. Card draws and evolving board states require players to adjust their plans on the fly, balancing long-term strategy with immediate tactical needs. Visually, the game maintains a strong tabletop aesthetic, with characters and environments resembling detailed miniatures placed on a physical board. This presentation reinforces the sense of playing a living board game, especially in VR, where the scale and perspective enhance immersion. Even outside of VR, the clarity of the visuals ensures that information is easy to process, which is essential for a game built around strategic decision-making. Animations are clean and functional, emphasizing readability over spectacle. The game’s accessibility is one of its strengths. New players can quickly grasp the fundamentals and begin playing without a steep learning curve, while more experienced players can explore deeper strategies through experimentation and practice. However, this accessibility comes with certain trade-offs. The overall scope of the game feels somewhat limited, with a relatively small pool of maps, heroes, and modes that can lead to repetition over time. Additionally, the progression system lacks a strong sense of direction or reward, making long-term engagement feel less compelling than it could be. Another aspect that may divide players is the role of randomness. Elements such as card draws introduce variability that can influence outcomes in ways that are not entirely predictable. While this aligns with the game’s tabletop inspiration and adds an element of unpredictability, it can also occasionally undermine the sense of control that strategy players often seek. In some matches, outcomes may feel shaped as much by luck as by decision-making. Despite these limitations, Demeo Battles succeeds in delivering a focused and engaging tactical experience. It captures the essence of strategic board games—planning, adaptation, and calculated risk—while presenting it in a format that is quick to play and easy to understand. Its strength lies in how it distills complex ideas into a streamlined system that remains satisfying without becoming overwhelming. In the end, Demeo Battles stands as a well-crafted competitive strategy game that prioritizes immediacy and accessibility. It may not offer the depth or variety of larger-scale titles, but it provides a polished and enjoyable experience that shines brightest in multiplayer. For players looking for a tactical game that blends tabletop charm with modern design, it offers a compelling and approachable alternative. Rating: 7/10
