I was looking forward to playing Defense Task Force. If you check my stats, you will see that I have played over 600 hours of Defense Grid, which is my favorite tower defense game. While Defense Grid loads rather quick and plays just fine on this system, Defense Task Force was another story. My Acer Aspire 7740G-6930 has an i7 620M CPU, 8MB RAM, and an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650 for video. While these are not current specs, they are still quite respectable, and most things play just fine. Defense Task Force has horribly long load times. I read others that mentioned this as well. When it finally gets to the screen where you select your player, the background graphics are a slideshow, even on the lowest graphics settings and the default 1600x900 resolution. I tried again after closing all other programs running as I thought the performance hit might have to do with a lack of video ram (1GB native, up to 4GB with HyperMemory), This did improve things some, but load time was still about 4 minutes, and after taking the time to actually go into the game, it is barely playable, and certainly not enjoyably. Why such a high use of resources on the player select screen? Some things need to be streamlined so far less resources are needed.

Sidenote: I have changed my review. A decent Tower Defense game with quite good visual. Plenty type of turrets, alot of researchable upgrades. Detailed encyclopedia about towers, monsters and maps. On every map you can continue fighting against more monster waves after you succeded the mission, to test yourself how long you can hold back them. However the game have an unnecessary full load on your graphics card, both GPU clock and VRAM capacity on max. I recommend to not set higher than medium the graphics settings. Edit: This will be an answer to developer fast respond to my review. My PC is a Core i5 3470, R9 380X (4GB), 8GB DDR3 and Win7 64. I play games on 1080p, possible on max setting. While your game looks good but it should not load my GPU this hard. Even the lowest setting use almost full GPU capacity while there is not much noticeable difference compare the most highest setting. I realy like your game, fun to play, many towers and a very detailed Encyclopedia. I also apreciate your work, If you check forums I also praised the game intro there. You realy should change something with visuals, like reduce the enemy details and/or water effect. Im not the only one here with this problem.
Good game if it was 10 dollars. Theres alot to say about this game, But i truly believed this was the game to lead back the Tower defense games to there glory days, but at the end of the day the game fails to impress after 30 hours of play, the storyline is messy, not making no sense, ("Earth loses all forms of power, but to gain power must kill of another planet to gather power, this power has no real decription, also the enemys are not consitent with the lore, these creatures are all brought off the unity asset store") Its a shame that they think they could launch the game half ***** into a finished state, and refused to fix these issues, But i will also say that the "Creator" is all alone in this issue, with failures left and right. Awhile back i offered my hand and brought my team onboard in the hopes off making this dream come true, a game that changes the TD landscape, but that was a failure with this, but other then that please give TC wicks the "Creator" your support, hes all alone doing this. also gameplay, well as a hardcore strategy fan, theres barly any :L For me I wont be offering a good review, sorry.
ChillX has succeeded in making a very free form tower defense game with the likes of Defense Task Force. I was invited to try the game and leave feedback in the early alpha stages and the amount of changes and refinement from then to now has been amazing to see. The quality of life improvements, visual affects, available maps, and game balance have all moved in a direction i think many people will be happy with and it has me more interested in the game post release than I was initially trying the alpha. The premise of the game challenges you to an endless survival mission of farming energy for the people of earth from a newly discovered planet. The planets denizens will attack any attempts to do so however and that's where you come in. Managing the energy given to you and deploying your platforms gives you the opportunity to setup your defense towers to defend your energy gathering cores and ultimately gain you the energy needed to further upgrade your towers and improve your energy gathering ability. Now in the alpha this was a bit more tedious and I'm glad it was made less so now. the upgrade costs are relatively minor and allow you to quickly experiment with differently deployment strategies for the towers. The towers are nothing without the correct Platform Blueprints however. The Blueprints for the game determine how many towers you can place as well as the possible pathing options for the Kraken, the games cannon fodder, to your defense core. Each one offers advantages for certain towers in various positions and the number of platforms as well as the ever increasing size of them up to the super large customer platforms available later in the game offer a lot of experimentation in play. Coupled with a damage tracker on each individual tower it helps you test which set ups can actually push your play farther and farther as you aim for more waves completed. As you progress further in the game more Kraken types appear with weaknesses and resistances to various Tower types as well as a higher energy accumulation coefficient causing you to gain energy faster at the need to deploy more complex defenses to progress. All of this is locked behind a sort of experience system which increases based on the highest wave cleared on each map sector making it easier to climb as you unlock new research for more tower power as well as unlock more sectors to progress in the game. As of writing this review I'm pushing through to raise all of my previous map wave counts higher to achieve higher ranks and unlock the last few items. I think Tower Defense Enthusiasts will enjoy this a lot.
I was never really a tower defense gamer. I saw this on youTube and figured what the hell. I have now beaten the game three times on insane. I enjoy playing it then taking a break for a couple months. That allows me to forget the exact formula and I have to relearn how I won. The only real problem is i want a DLC some new maps or backgrounds. New weapons or upgrades. I want more!
A bit of strategy, nothing interactive (no weapons for player), towers only. Can research, but still need to pay for all level 3 abilities on each map. I'm only 8 hours in, but playing same maps over and over again. Decent graphics, but so much variety of enemies that you just need to throw in every tower type.
Decent tower defense game. Lots of upgrades along the path and it isn't a one and done deal. I bought it for a buck, absolutely worth it!
Nicely done.
game used to be awesome....than it started having significant issues with being way too slow. waited for months for whatever the problem was to be fixed thru the Steam app...no such luck, now I'm no longer waiting...what a shame.
