Do you want something like the original Rogue, true turn based dungeon crawler? But it has extremely good first person graphics, and monsters that may cause nightmares. You can play it fast in short bursts, but it's much deeper than you first think, both in actual depth, and in strategy involved. I have been addicted to it (as you can see from played hours) and I'm amazed why everyone aren't playing it yet. True gem, consider yourself lucky that you found it. Heartily recommended 10/10!
Even tho I've only scrathced the surface of what this fantastic crawler has to offer, I am convinced that it's a 100% recommend! The atmosphere, the enemy designs, the whole vibe! Not to mention that it's actually a First Person Traditional RogueLike... It's just too much awesomeness! I will keep trying, I will keep dying but some day.. some beautiful day, I hope to see the end floor! Writing this to push that Steam Review count cause it's absolutely horrific to see that it only has 2 steam reviews! Hidden Gem Anyone!?
DeAnima offers a traditional roguelike experience in 3D. The turn based combat system is impressively seamless, and each floor offers a labyrinth of mysteries to be discovered. DeAnima looks like a simple dungeon crawler on the surface, but you will quickly discover there is hundreds of hours worth of content to explore as you diver deeper into the dungeon.
I haven’t played many traditional roguelikes - mostly just ToME - so DeAnima was a truly unique experience for me. Despite seeming simple at first glance, the game can keep you engaged for quite a long time. Each run you’ll discover something unexpected - a hidden mechanic, a sudden twist in the game’s rules, and much more. You’ll find yourself in genuinely tense situations where you have to think twice before acting. There are very few games like this nowadays: simple on the surface yet incredibly deep inside. I played both the demo and the playtest, and later joined as a tester. The developer regularly releases updates and adds new mechanics. DeAnima is absolutely worth it - give it a try!
Played the demo and yup. Totally bought it.
What a surprise! An incredible traditional roguelike, turn-based, highly dynamic, and with the kind of depth you’d expect from a first-person ASCII-style roguelike but with solid graphics. The dungeon’s aesthetic is gritty, dark, and full of secrets. It’s exactly what I’ve been searching for for a very long time. I hope it becomes a standout title, gets plenty of love from the community, and receives many updates. I’m genuinely happy to have found this game.
This is a fantastic 3D adaptation of Rogue with its own spice added in. Highly recommend. My co-worker and I have been talking about new discoveries we made every day, it reminds me of back when there weren't wikis since there's not much info on the game but that's fine since the game has its own internal wiki/codex on everything so long as you discover it. Hats off to the dev.
I love (and hate) the challenge this game gives you. I've gotten pretty far with it on two occasions. Very re-playable, I think I intended to get a feel for this for an hour and then spent half the day on it. Each bit of progress makes me feel a little more confident in my next attempt (often to be cruelly punished for my hubris). I find myself wanting to unlock all the secrets to this although I'm not sure I fully understand half of the things I've encountered. Definitely a recommend for me. Works great on my Deck.
Very good rogue like dungeon crawl. The developers passion seeps through all the mysteries of the dungeon. Lots to explore and many secrets to discover. Hard. This game is right up my alley and should be considered by anyone who enjoys this genre. Developer is in discord and constantly tweaking and making the game better.
Seems a simple game, but no, it's polished to a shine, clever and deep. The details and surprises are unending: dev's brilliance and commitment galore here !. 9/10 for me. ( 9, as I would prefer -personal take of course- a mite more lenient approach sometimes that I think would allow for a wider access to more gamers. ). Got to surface with crown, couldn't sacrifice it at floor 10 as it wouldn't let me -already had sacrificed 2 items-, so couldn't go deeper. Oh well. --Disclosure: Being 70 y.o., I use my own C.E. tables in all games. Here, Health current and max, Food pieces, Gold, wands charges, XP, Turns, Fayora identifyings any number. Didn't find Hunger but with HP, unnecessary. Won't post hints as reading the dev's posts I think he wouldn't like that at all. Respect.
