About
Dead Static Drive is Grand Theft Cthulhu—a survival-horror road trip through a nightmare version of 1980s Americana. Scavenge, fight, and sneak your way across small towns and eerie highways as reality begins to unravel.
Play as Hearst, a wayward traveler searching for their missing parents—and answers—in a world collapsing under the weight of something ancient and wrong. Trust is your most valuable resource, and you’ll need to rely on others to survive. Evade the police. Protect those around you. And help stop a violent, paranoid man whose delusions are putting everyone at risk—including his own children.
You didn’t grow up here. You don’t know the streets, the faces, or the things people see after dark. All you have is a strange letter, with no return address, and a growing sense that something’s gone terribly wrong.
Your parents live out this way. Or lived. You haven’t heard from them in too long. Now there’s smoke on the horizon and strange news on the wind.
You came to find your family. You came to understand what’s happening. If you don’t keep moving, you won’t get the chance to do either.
Something stirs beneath the pavement.

Buggy, Terrible UI, Just not fun.
The game feels rushed, and more like early access, not an actual release. There are some big technical errors that could be fixed with patching, but it's shocking that it wasn't done after years of delaying the game.
It is a recommend with some strong caveats. Really want to get deeper into this but there's a problem... + Art Design and retro vibe is great. + Driving controls are good. + Open world interactivity is good and writing is good. Glorious havoc seems inevitable. + Characters are interesting. --- Cannot really recommend until able to rebind keys. This is a big one as a left handed player. Had to get a refund until this is hopefully added. - NPC interaction is a bit janky. Very easy to accidentally whack an NPC with a roundhouse kick to the face, and seemingly no way to exit combat. Dialogue controls are a bit unclear. - No sound for the car?
I loved the aesthetic and everything I read and saw on the Steam page. However, did anyone actually playtest this? I tried playing with an Xbox controller, but the game kept showing keyboard icons. When I switched to the keyboard, it showed Xbox button prompts instead. The settings menu is poorly designed — it took me ages to set the correct resolution. The game also lacks basic information at the start. Interacting with items or moving things from a container to the inventory using the keyboard feels completely unintuitive. This game clearly has huge potential, but in its current state, I ended up requesting a refund. The Steam page doesn’t mention it being in early access or alpha/beta, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Still, I’ll be keeping an eye on it to see if future updates address these issues.
Just by playing the first 10 minutes of this game you can notice how incomplete it is: the UI menus look like they didn't make it past the placeholder stage, navigating through them is unnecessarily confusing, there are no joystick callouts even though the game supports using a controller, and the gameplay experience overall feels rushed, even though this game has been in development for over 8 years. There are Early Access titles more fleshed out than this, which launched as a full-fledged game with a steep price tag for what it is actually worth. This was one of my most anticipated games, so the disappointment is bigger than usual.
Been waiting about 8 years for this game. Love the aesthetics, the vibe, the music, the art style, pretty much everything about it. I can already see I could spend hours just driving around. It is everything I expected and more for an indie game. Glad the see all the character creation options. Having fun playing with the driving physics and mechanics as well. Not usually one for isometric viewpoint games, due to issues with directional travel and aiming, but really haven't had any issues with this game so far. Controls are fairly intuitive. Not sure what the complaints are about with the interface and whatnot. Only took a few minutes to get everything set up right and then playing the game, and I wouldn't even say I'm that smort. Looking forward to spending many more hours playing the game.
*Edited for post-day-one-patch. Still janky as hell, I don't know what the controls are or where I'm going... but I'm having fun doing that. Fantastic art style. Very atmospheric, very chill. No urgency, so I can just explore this darkening world. I like that. It's better than day one, but it's still a bit off in the UI aspect of it. ESC or TAB to map, I to inventory and can't be changed - exit from inventory is marked as ESC but that throws you to the map where you'll hunt around until you find that Q kicks you back to the game properly. That doesn't flow well. Inventory stacking is the reverse of what you'd expect - drag a bandage from a bag into your inventory and it stacks in the bag. Then you drag it back to your inventory. Stacking properly expects you to drag that bandage from your inventory to the item you want in your inventory and then it magically happens. Backwards. For reference I use a 65% keyboard, a tartarus pro and a naga pro. So please, let me rebind those keys. I'm not looking to buy a new keyboard for a better experience in one game. Yes, I could set up a new profile on my gear but there's still no full list of keybinds and there are still those weird issues with the arbitrarily chosen ones. But, please please please: - I still need to be able to rebind the keys - give me a proper exit game menu item (there isn't one that I can find and alt-f4 is a workaround not an exit game menu item) *they fixed this pretty quickly - let me select screen/display resolution and _then_ let me choose to apply it when I'm done.
I'm a simple person, see boobs and press buy. But this game is actually terrible. Like what the other reviewers wrote its pretty bad. First main issue was the resolution thingy. like what another reviewer said about how it takes very long to switch, you can bypass by going to windowed borderless and change res, then back to full screen, and change res. This is terrible. I load in, pick up keys, pressed tab, it showed the map. Cool. bottom right says "ESC Exit" I press esc to try exit the map, doesn't exit. I hit tab to close. doesn't close. Pressed Q it closed. Cool. lemme just quit, leave review, and refund.
I knew the writing in this had juice during the character origin section, where one of the options is: "Equity Trader: Contributes nothing. Lecherous and guilty. Slick suit, dead eyes, and a wallet full of other peoples' money." I also like that there's things happening which have nothing to do with you, that make the world feel alive: like finding something monstrous squelching along dragging something unseen off into the night. I'm very curious to see how it all goes: there's a good chance this has some very distinctive vibes and I'm just scratching the surface.
