This game is just broken and Crapcom never even tried to fix it. It's shameful that they even still sell it. Do you want to play with a controller? Too bad! You have to download a 3rd party mod. Not because the options are not in the game, but because it is broken and doesn't work. OK, so play with a mouse and keyboard, right? Nope! There is negative mouse acceleration and the only way to fix that is downloading a 3rd party mod. Crapcom is truly a terrible company.
If you like using a controller dont even bother purchasing this game. Controllers dont work without mods.
Too many technical issues to recommend - controller issues, strange visual artifacts in menus when playing on higher resolutions, random crashes etc. You can fix most of the issues with community patches and workarounds, but at that point why give money to the people who don't care about keeping their own game playable? If you do get it, it keeps a lot of the elements from dead rising 1 intact, but just slightly neuters most of them. The game is generally easier, the plot is wackier, the timer is more forgiving. Combo weapons, the game's main new gimmick, adds some variation to the combat, but a lot of them feel like something you'll use once, have a chuckle, and then forget forever.
co-op is broken that's the whole reason I bought this game lmao
I first bought the game to help my boyfriend with the coop achievements because he's attempting to do them all. i wasnt expecting to enjoy it as much as i did since usually am not a fan of these type of games but i havee never enjoyed a game so much theres so much content, the suspense is wonderful, the combat is great. the few criticisms i have is the lag in coop, for some reason is seems to be that the only way you can even join coop is if you are pure of heart because so many people struggle with it, TIR servers are dead, and the boring grueling achievements that being said i recomend dead rising 2 and am exicted to play the other games in the franchise. thank you musta for playimg with me ilysm
Two dads searching for a fix for their junkie daughter while gambling, killing freakazoids and suffering from FOMO and anxiety The biggest cons are performing "send this message to 5 friends and clap 3 times" ritual every time to join a friend's game and lowering fps to get rid of desync
Dead Rising 2 is a very fun game that is sadly a broken mess on PC. It was built for older hardware AND was a game that held it's foundation upon Games for Windows Live which is deprecated. I've had the pleasure to experience the game in co-op with a friend who helped work out any technical issues, but even then it's hard to get the game to function. Even with community fixes, workarounds and expert help you're gonna have plenty of crashes and bugs and other nasty issues because Capcom didn't bother to fix the game they were paid for. If this game functioned like it did on XBOX 360, then this would be an instant recommendation. However, it doesn't. Ultimately, Dead Rising 2 itself is a good game that sadly has been somewhat lost to time. Maybe someday Capcom will make a functioning remaster, or will fix this broken mess of a PC port so that people can enjoy a game that deserved better.
I appreciate that this game matches the original's production values so closely. It's like Ghostbusters 2, or Predator 2. Not as good as the original but of the same time and a similar style, unlike modern sequels of older movies that seem like they're from an entirely different continuity. And it does a few things better than the original. The playground is a bit bigger and more diverse. NPCs don't die nearly as easily as they did in Dead Rising 1. And it brings forward so much of what was memorable in the first game--the plethora of weapons, the psychopaths, the stressful pacing, and the wonderful elevator music. But it's not quite as good. Chuck is fine as a main character, and I enjoyed the gameplay dynamic of keeping his daughter alive, but his sad dad blandness can't hold a candle to Frank West's zaniness. And the psychopath cutscenes had me dozing off. They just aren't as fun as they were in the first game. Worst of all, this PC port isn't the best. Gamepad input is broken, which sucks (but it somehow magically fixes itself if you are playing on Steam OS and select Proton 8-5, just don't forget to turn gamepad support in the in-game options and it comes to life). And I had some crashes and weirdness here and there. There's just a bit more jank than some people might be willing to deal with. But I'm still going to recommend. The issues weren't insurmountable, and the game is enough fun. If you enjoyed the first game, definitely don't miss this one.
