Great little gem, worth the money. Challenging on normal, fun combat plenty to explore, decent story and great music.
I've been having a lot of fun playing World of Shadows. There is so much to do in it, it's crazy. One thing however is that the in-game achievements are working fine, but they do not seem to be syncing with the steam achievements.
A friend recommended this game because I love the JRPG genre. I got to say at first I was a little put off because of the resolution 800 x 600 I think? But after playing in full screen, I forgot about that. It is a very deep from what I've seen so far. A ton of different mechanics that are unusual, but refreshing. I also like the main character so far, Kuan. Going to edit this with more information when I get more play time in! But I am really interested in the card battles, so I might just buy the developers other game!
https://youtu.be/dBhPwtIXhRs Disclaimer: I was paid to make a first impressions video on this game. De'Vine: World of Shadows is a deep and polished RPG with a unique and highly customized card battle system. It also has several other interesting reasons why you should give it a try like a farming system, but if you're thinking about picking this one up, you should check out my first impressions video to see more of the game.
I definitely recommend this game. The developer is friendly, engages with players, listens to suggestions and is really invested in the game, releasing new features and fixing bugs. The story is very short, you can complete it in a few hours. However, the sidequests and additional content the game provides will give you hours of enjoyment. Although I have to admit that I felt somewhat disappointed with the story, not because it was bad, but because of how short it was, it left me wanting to know more about the lore and what's going to happen next. On the other hand, that's good on its own way, I'm looking forward to next installment in the series. Considering this game was made with RPG Maker, software mainly used for making RPGs, I was very impressed by the level of variety and detail that was put into it. I didn't know it was possible to achieve something like this with RPG Maker. There's a lot of different stuff to do. You can tell a lot of effort was made into implementing all this different gameplay mechanics. My only complaint is the relationship development between the main character and his love interest. The romance felt somewhat forced, when the romantic feelings were revealed I was like: "Wait, what? why?". Perhaps if the story was longer there would have been more room for developing the romance trough it.
I would give this game a solid 6.5-7/10 Pros: Great story Good music Great character artwork Battle system reminiscent of Final Fantasy VII (Can be changed to turn based or card based) Two different key bind options (arrow keys and wasd) Many different settings to mess around with. Does not take up a lot of storage space on your pc. Cons: The game can get confusing at times. There are not indicators on screen on where your next quest is so you just have to guess. There is a permanent controls list on screen. The energy/hunger system gets annoying after awhile and there is no way to turn it off to my knowledge. Can’t get game to work properly with controller. Overall it is a pretty good with some flaws that can be fixed with some updates. I would recommend it only if you don’t mind getting lost here and there and just wandering aimlessly along with having to manage stats that drain kinda fast if you dash to much. The pros heavily outweigh the cons in my opinion.
This is an interesting beast of a game. The beginning can get overwhelming, as there are a lot of systems in place and a huge world to explore, but it sucessfully evokes the feeling of a hidden gem experimental open world jrpg. Thumbs up.
Awesome game! If you are into RPGs then you will love this game. It has elements of Zelda, FF, and Hearthstone/Magic the gathering. Love the game would recommend. Cant wait to keep playing ;)
good story but controls are bad
The game feels a little unpolished in some ways - I've found a few bugs, and I have a few complaints about the battle system. The game does feel complete, with a large open world to explore. The biggest reason I have for recommending this is the responsiveness of the developer - if you look at the discussions, you'll see that the developer has been quick to respond to bug reports. It makes me believe that as I continue to play the game and talk with the developer, we'll get that polish that feels missing.
