This is one of the best RPGMaker games I have ever played. I didn't finish the game yet but here is my current opinion on it. Pros: -Custom sprites for characters. -Engaging card battles. -Characters don't feel like robots, they all have a different personality and way of thinking. -Great story that will motivate you to keep playing. -A lot of content and side quests. Seriously, if you are one of those that don't like to go directly for the main story, this is definitely for you. The game is open world and the world is huge, you can go wherever you want. -Farming and crafting system. -No grinding. So far I didn't need to grind to beat any of the bosses. This could change though, we will see. Cons: -You can only change your party members in your HQ. So while you are exploring a continent/cave/forest/etc you can't change your party members. It's kinda realistic that way but I would like to change my party members whenever I want. Overall a great game. Definitely recommended.
De'Vine differs a lot from your usual RPG maker games. Combat There's two different types of combat: Action & card battles. Action battles are a faster and a heavily shortcut focused version of the action bar system like we know it from FF VII, VIII & co, while card combat feels like a creature based Magic meets Yu-Gi-Oh. You will start each action battle with full HP, but eventually receive penalties if you are starved or tired (see below). There also is a setting which allows you to choose your prefered type of combat for world battles. Another noticable aspect is the huge enemy variety. You can spent 2 hours in the same area and still suddenly face enemies you haven't seen before. Each character can change classes / fine tune his class right from the start, while the ability options are quite limited you're given enough combinations to experiment with to keep it interesting. Survival/Farming/Crafting Right from the start you'll have to keep your food and sleep levels in check. They decay at a rather slow rate and both are easy enough to gain so that it's something to take care of, but nothing that applies too much stress. There's a huge variety of craftable things and farming will definetely keep you occupied if you decide to dedicate yourself to it. It's mostly optional - so if you rather feel like playing this as a normal RPG rather than Harvest Moon you're free to do so! Story Above average story which is well written. You're relatively free where you want to go right from the start. The pros Everything above. It's also important to note that while this is a finished game the developer has kept patching and adding improvements to the base game. The cons The game often feels clunky, especially card battles and while I love variety the vast amount of options can easily leave the player overwhelmed. Particularly going from barely any active combat practise with 1 character to a full party at once can be quite stressful at the start. The conclusion If you like farming or RPG maker games this should definitely be on your "must-play" list. Unique mechanics and a great variety of content put this above many other RPG-maker games you can find on Steam.
So I've been playing a few hours now and this game is quite fun. Seems to have tons of content. Found out you can switch between card battles and regulare. The card battles are a lot of fun.I started on easy but wish I started normal... guess you can adjust difficulty down but not up? Farm system is huge and there is tons of different crafts around... I noticed each merchant has different purchase rate and sell rates. I assume that means each merch sells stuff for different prices. I also stumbed across this trove which seems to be random puzzles not connected to main content... got lost doing those for a little. All and all I'm excited to keep playing. Story seems solid, battle system for both cards and reg battle is fluid. I'd definitely recommend buying :D!
De'Vine is a great game, it was an unique experience playing a RPG Maker game that is open world (and the world is HUGE). I really liked the story, it's well balanced in the dark and light themes. The developer is also very responsive, he answered a lot of my questions and fixed some minor bugs I reported really quick. It has countless features: extensive card game, survival features, crafting, farming, MANY side quests, a lot of recruitable characters, and many others. Of the many features this game have, I loved the card game. The card game is amazing, a lot of strategies to use and a lot of cards to collect. The essence aspect of the card game is also very interesting, specially for Pokemon fans. It's like a mix between Pokemon and Yugioh. As you can probably tell by my hours spent in this game, I really liked this game and fully recommend it
This game is hands down well worth the $10...I’ve already got 16+ hours into it the first couple days of its release and still there is an entire world I have yet to explore on top of tons of cards to gather essence for and an insane amount of crops to be farmed along with the livestock. It’s unbelievable how much the developer put into this $10 title. This game has everything you want out of a classic 16bit styled indie RPG! The main reason why I enjoy De’Vine so much is because it reminds me of my 90’s childhood and is very reminiscent of a 1993-94 SNES JRPG. The sprite work is terrific, music is phenomenal, and battle system fast paced and full of action. Do yourself a favor and pickup a copy.
More than a tad clunky. Not enough info for things like attacks, etc... Overall UI and controller support needs work. I'll keep an eye on this, but for now, I do NOT recommend this game.
I'm really amazed with how deep this game can be. There is a lot of things to do, but it don't feel forced and everything is pretty organic. There is farming, card games, crafting a lot of exploration, but you aren't required to go deep on those if they aren't to your liking. When it says that it is an "open world" it is not joking, the world is huge and you are pretty much free to go almost everywhere from the start. I really can't describe my reaction when I found out that I could reach a underwarter world by swiming on deep weater that is almost as big as the surface world. The only thing I feel bad is that I can't increase the dificulty of the game once started, on reduce it. I explored too much and ended with some overleveled characters.
Bought it for the card game, Story in the game is amazing though. Then they came out with a card game version. Instantly bought it too. You got a fan I guess. Good devs, love the card game and collection, reminds me of my old GameBoy Color playin "Pokemon: The Card Game". Wish more games had adventure lite mechanics and card collection.
My Personal Game Score: 8 / 10 Just like other games that is created with RPG Maker software. -Nice Story -The music is nice -Artwork is good -Card battle is nice -No indicators on where to go when doing a task. -Confusing for newbies.
