There’s something about Day of Defeat that instantly pulls me back. The sound of distant gunfire, the push-and-pull of capture points, and those chaotic, close-knit team fights made every match feel like a story unfolding in real time. It wasn’t just a shooter—it felt like being dropped into a shared memory with strangers who quickly felt like teammates. Simple, tense, and endlessly replayable, it still holds that old-school charm that modern games just don’t quite replicate.
Great game with an unmatched community of players. This game is 20 years old and still as fun as it was from day one. Highly recommend.

Its a real fun team shooter, with powerful but simple weapons good looking maps. The guns feel great and behave exactly exactly how you would expect them to. Your experience is sadly limited to you and your friends or one out of the few public lobbies. A revival of this game with a brand new engine would generally be great, trusting valve with their games.
Я люблю работать снайпером, хорошая профессия на свежем воздухе
Great game for playing casually. Still glad to see people still playing this
Day of Defeat (DoD) is a solid old skool squad Shooter that is probably on its way out at no fault of its own. It is still semi-active and has a fairly strong community of dedicated long time players. There is also bots and they are good. I feel bad for putting this game one on the way side. Placed in exchange for more modern shooters emerging at the time. Mainly leaving for online competitive leader boards. Day of Defeat was a very competitive shooter in its time and it still holds it titles up today. You don't lose your championship belt when you retire. No different than what R6 or CS is today. We aim trained, we practiced, we farmed. It was the start of what became hardcore titles. I remember back in 2020 a group of friends and I where playing. Many games were getting remade around this time and the hard core genre was being defined. We talked about why DoD was not getting any meaningful updates or even a full remake, like the other games of the time. The conclusion we came to was that Day of Defeat does not need a remake. "Don't fix what aint broke" There is nothing wrong with this classic shooter, not even today. So do your self a favor. Put down the competitive shooter of 2025 and have some fun instead. Todays shooter will be as dead as Day of Defeat in ten years anyway. Take a moment to enjoy what you have while its there. Because before you know it, the fun has passed while you were too busy taking things seriously and you end up missing all the actual fun to be had. Please don't make the same mistake I did. Play the games you love to play, not just what everyone else is playing. Because eventually there will be no more players and no more servers for the game you actually enjoy. Instead you wasted that chance trying to force your self to stay in the competitive zone. Grab some buds and a couple copies of the game on sale. "This is where the fun begins!" To the guys who stayed with Day of Defeat I say this: You hold Solace in knowing you made the right choice. I commend you for your dedication. "hold the line."
это единственное место где я чувствую себя как дома
Good ole classic. My favorite Source game. Pick it up when its on sale and enjoy the fun!
Been playing since release and will continue to play till my last days. I love this game.
Day of Defeat Source is a good online multiplayer game if you want to kill some time and kill some nazis at the same time. It is fun for a little while if you are playing alone like me, but the fun is done quite quick as it is repetitive and not many servers are online at this point of time. I played a lot with bots, which was hilarious, played a bit with actual people, which was nice. And that's all, there were only 2 servers playable from my location (Japan) Classic FPS, fun times
