About
Dawnhold is a top-down action base-defense game about protecting the Sunstone, the last source of light in a world overrun by the Hollowborn.
Gather resources, build walls and towers, fight enemy waves, and push outward from your base to assault Hollowborn strongholds. Each mission starts fresh, challenging you to balance building, gathering, combat, upgrades, and boss fights before the pressure becomes too much.
Survival is only part of the mission. To win, you’ll need to leave the safety of your defenses, break through the Hollowborn’s forces, and defeat the powerful bosses.
In Standard missions, you defend the Sunstone while expanding your defenses and pushing toward the enemy stronghold. Build your base, survive repeated attacks, and choose when to go on the offensive.
Arena missions offer a more direct combat challenge, sending you into focused battles against waves of Hollowborn enemies.
As you progress through the campaign, you’ll earn currencies used to unlock and enhance abilities, walls, towers, and powerful upgrades.
Top-down action combat mixed with base building and tower defense
Build walls and towers to protect the Sunstone
Fight directly as the hero with class-based abilities
Choose from 3 playable classes, each with distinct strengths and playstyles
Survive repeated enemy waves while preparing your next push

Unlock abilities, buildings, and upgrades across the campaign

Incredibly intuitive but challenging at the same time. It's your hybrid hero/defense game with incremental difficulties and levels that provide new opportunities to test your mechanics and skill as a player. I'm really enjoying learning more efficient ways to survive into the later waves of aggression! Highly recommend!
Your main task is to protect the Sunstone from enemy waves that begin once the timer reaches zero. You’ll spend most of your time using your primary attack, which has a very short cooldown, allowing you to simply hold down the button for continuous fire. Your other skills have much longer cooldowns and require Radiance to activate. Thankfully, Radiance slowly regenerates on its own. The skills available to you depend on which of the three characters you choose before heading out on a mission. The other half of your defense comes from towers, which require resources to build. You gather these resources by attacking trees for wood, rocks for stone, and golden ore deposits for gold. While resources are scattered all across the map, they are limited, and once a resource is destroyed, it never respawns. After collecting enough materials, you can open the building menu, choose a tower or wall you can afford, and place it almost anywhere you like. There are plenty of options to choose from, although your selection is limited by your current level. As you defeat enemies, you gain experience and level up, unlocking new towers and powerful abilities that help you deal even more damage. Every level also grants stat points that can be invested into Power to increase damage, Wisdom to boost Radiance regeneration, or Stamina to improve both your health and health regeneration. Gold serves a different purpose. It lets you purchase new equipment from the Sunstone, giving your hero better damage or other useful stat bonuses. The shop refreshes its inventory after some time, and enemies occasionally drop gear as well. Just keep in mind that higher rarity equipment requires a higher level before it can be equipped. The Sunstone also offers permanent attack upgrades, but these require a combination of different resources rather than just gold. The enemy assault never really stops, and you need to survive for as long as possible. Each new wave brings stronger and more numerous enemies, making it increasingly difficult to hold your defenses. It’s worth checking on your towers regularly because they can be damaged or destroyed, and repairing them is much cheaper than building replacements. If you’re feeling confident, you can take the fight directly to an enemy spawn point. It will defend itself by firing at you, and once its health drops below half, it starts spawning additional enemies. Destroying it makes the following wave easier since there will be one less location for enemies to attack from. To complete a stage, you must destroy the enemy stronghold and enter a portal leading to the boss fight. Once the portal appears, you’ll want to move quickly because if the timer reaches zero, the mission ends in failure. You also lose if your hero dies or if the Sunstone is destroyed. The good news is that the boss battle takes place in a separate arena, so you no longer need to worry about defending the Sunstone or surviving enemy waves. Defeating the boss unlocks the next stage on the map and rewards you with two rare resources. These rare resources are used to unlock additional towers and skills that you can equip before future missions. While you can’t bring every unlocked option with you, there are more than enough slots to build a loadout around your favorite towers and abilities. The same resources can also be spent on permanent upgrades that improve the effectiveness of your towers and skills. Unfortunately, failed missions don't reward these resources, so you can't simply grind unsuccessful runs to overcome a particularly difficult stage. If a mission proves too challenging, you can always lower the difficulty, or raise it if you're looking for a bigger challenge. Since every difficulty rewards the same progression resources, it's perfectly viable to play on an easier setting first, unlock more upgrades, and then return later to tackle harder difficulties. In fact, you'll need to do exactly that if you're aiming for all the achievements, as completing stages on the easiest difficulty doesn't count toward them. As a nice bonus, every stage also hides a journal entry that expands the game's story.
Dawnhold is currently a title I hope people don't sleep on. The pixel art is clean, the animations are thoughtful, and the soundtrack goes much harder than expected. Its mix of tower defence and active combat keeps you moving, dodging projectiles, gathering loot, and protecting your camp instead of simply waiting behind your defences. Some parts still feel like they can be developed further: Weapons offer different stats, but many attacks boil down to similar energy projectiles, equipment does not visibly change your character, and the combat can start feeling repetitive over longer sessions - though this can get offset by the sheer ferocity of the AI. It's relentless! Keeps you on your toes. Still, I have now played for more than 6 hours, and intend to keep going, so clearly the loop has its hooks in me. At $11.99 CAD, especially at the current $9.89 sale price, Dawnhold is easy to recommend for fans of compact tower defence, light action-RPG progression, and pixel-game music that thinks it is headlining an arena.
I had a lot of fun playing Dawnhold. It does a great job of mixing action, base building, and tower defense without feeling overwhelming. The different classes and upgrades give you different advantages in battle, and each mission feels fresh enough that it keeps you continually saying, just one more round.
Good Great, Bestest Everest Game
This game was a great mix of gameplay between the classes, the art style is nostalgic and overall the game was well thought out with mob diversity and enough replayability through the different maps, bosses, and classes
Highly recommended! Dawnhold is one of those games that's easy to pick up but surprisingly hard to master. The core gameplay is a really satisfying mix of base building, tower defense, and action combat. You build and upgrade your base while defending it against increasingly difficult waves of monsters, and every run feels rewarding. There are three unique playable classes, each with their own upgradeable spells. As you progress, you can swap abilities and experiment with different builds, making it easy to find a playstyle that suits you. On the base-building side, there are plenty of defensive towers to choose from, so you can create your own strategy instead of being locked into one approach. The difficulty options are also great. Whether you're looking for a relaxed experience on Easy or want to challenge yourself on Insane, there's a setting for every type of player. The harder difficulties genuinely require planning, quick reactions, and smart tower placement. One thing that really impressed me was the optimization. The game runs incredibly smoothly, and in my case it put virtually no stress on my PC while still looking great. If you enjoy games that combine strategy, progression, and fast-paced combat, Dawnhold is absolutely worth checking out. It's a fun, polished experience that's easy to recommend, especially if you're a fan of tower defense or horde/boss clearing games.
This game has a really chill vibe, the time management decision making and strategy when it comes to building your bases is a really interesting way to challenge yourself. The bosses are interesting and have their own unique mechanics, and the progression from one level to the next makes you think of what to spend your resources on. The abilities (I mostly played the green haired dude) were interesting and made you change your strategies as you unlock them. Final missions were of a reasonable difficulty and felt satisfying to finally defeat. Arenas were fun, and were a quick way to gain resources if you're having trouble with one of the missions. Also the game has replayability in that there are 3 classes you can play, that feel very different from each other. You also have to strategize differently due to the differing abilities.
The OST is one of the best I've ever heard. The gameplay is very simple to learn, fun to play and expands the further you get. I also like that I can choose so many different things I'm not locked behind linear progression.
really fun game, it can be pretty challenging but you can win with a number of different playstyles lots of content, runs butter smooth, and the controls feel great praise the sketstone
