Christmas. Christmas never changes. Soon those overzealous little freaks will swarm the city led by that bearded maniac. But this time, we fight back. Inspired by Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Beavis&Butthead's heavy metal comedy, this is twin-stick mayhem like you've never experienced before.

"I'm your friendly neighborhood hellraiser". Kein Heavy XMass also... In diesem Sinne... Repetitive twin-stick shooter where you rescue headbangers kidnapped by elves, using guns that shoot paintballs, tennis balls, and so on. That teases you the prospect of spending a few thousand upgrade points to "unlock" a nailgun. More on this game's definition of "unlock" later, but setting that aside... Oh, yeah, now we're talking. That probably ought to have been the starting weapon in a game where elves and heavy metal fans fling high explosives at each other. No really, you can fling firebombs into rooms and blow up cars to take out a few of these little hostage-taking, toy-making tangos at once, but you're still running around with a toy gun like they'd turn out by the millions at the North Pole. Here's an idea. Can my metalhead shoot something, maybe, I dunno, made out of metal at them? Then maybe they could be the ones returning fire with inexplicably-powerful, presumably magic-infused, improvised weapons from Santa's workshop. Instead, having "unlocked" the nailgun with your saved up points, you now have to buy each of the other boring weapons, one after the other, to get to the nailgun on each individual run. Costing, once again, thousands and thousands of upgrade points, which have to be earned on that run, not carried over. I get that it's a rogue-lite, but it's one that's as miserly as Ebeneezer Scrooge with a weapon that might actually turn this ho-ho-hum experience around, so once that became apparent, I lost interest.
This game had me excited for a minute thinking it would be similar to zombies ate my neighbors, and that is what this game is like, just without the charm and effort. I had a christmas wish for some different stages and enemies, but everything is pretty much the same. By the time i finished my game, I was left disappointed. Their trick to tempt me to continue playing through the same couple of levels again and again is the promise of banking points to use to unlock better weapons, but there is hardly enough challenge with the game's starting weapon. i felt no need to even purchase the better weapons already available to me in my first playthrough. This could have been a very nice a nostalgic retro adventure, but instead, you have seen everything there is to see fifteen minutes in, and then the boredom sets in. Thumbs down at this price. I would say 65% off the regular price is about where this game could be worth buying. thanks and god bless
Headbangers in Holiday Hell is a reasonably competent and fun twin-stick shooter that doesn't break any new ground but is decent for what it is. You play a headbanger who must rescue fellow headbangers while fighting off waves of Santa's elves. You've got a handful of weapon types, as well as a few special weapons that can only be used after you've filled up a meter by killing enemies. You've also got a dodge-roll, a melee attack, and a few consumable items that can help you in particular situations. Your character controls all right, but your projectile-firing weapons aren't particularly precise and often seem to miss their target. There are many destructible elements in the environment, but sometimes they will take melee hit priority instead of an enemy you're trying to hit right in front of them, which can be a bit annoying. Speaking of annoying, you're going to hear "Here comes the naughty list!" in an obnoxious falsetto many, many times as you play. I think the elves should have gotten a few more varied phrases. The game is somewhat repetitive, and each playthrough will be structured identically: 3 levels in the suburbs, 1 in a mall, then a boss, all repeated 3 times for 15 levels total. The levels seem procedurally generated, but they all end up feeling pretty much the same anyway. There also isn't a whole lot of enemy variation; You'll mostly be fighting different-colored elves. You don't get many invincibility frames after getting hit, so if you find yourself in a crowd of enemies it can be easy to lose all your HP quickly. But despite all that negative stuff, I'm recommending the game anyway. I find the pixel art charming (I especially like Lemmy posters you sometimes see in the houses), the metal music tracks are suitably energetic and theme-fitting, and it's generally quite fun to mow down scores and scores of elves. Every playthrough nets you money you can use to unlock new weapons, power those weapons up or boost certain stats. There are a few unique mechanics such as being able to spill water on the floor in houses then drop toasters on the water to electrocute any elves who come too close, or turning on TVs to distract elves so you can take out a group of them with a well-aimed exploding gas container. While it's easy to miss out on these mechanics altogether, the achievements do a good job of encouraging you to vary your gameplay and try everything the game has to offer. There are only three bosses and they're quite easy, but they do mix things up a bit. Again, HIHH is nothing special, but it's fun for a while and if you see it on special you can get it for pocket change.
Terribly simple game, I was expecting an Xmas themed EntertheGungeon.
This game slaps. Twin stick roguelike shooter with a Christmas metal theme. Perfect game for the holidays :)
4/10 not bad, but not great biggest killer of this game is that health does not restore between levels
Need more gore with pieces flesh meat and throwing dead body when killed little helpers .
