Before starting the review I have to state two important things:

The game is made by one person
The game is still being development with many features planned
DATH is a strange kind of game, and I mean it in a positive way. You start the game believing you're in a sort of unfinished game with no plot at all, and all you have to do is killing reptitive horde of enemies. At a certain point things start to change (I won't spoil it for you). DATH feels like a story of redemption, of second chances. I love the RPG features in a 2D game like that. It's an interesting mix that makes it strangely addictive. You can purchase weapons, armors, potions, and all the necessary items to continue your journey. The controls are simple, you have a basic and stronger attacks, spells and abilities; the levels, however, are quite hard, making it an extremely challenging title. It's fast paced, with many enemies and traps lurking. Am I recommending the game? Yes. I like how it is coming along so far, and I know bigger updates are planned.

Sadly going to have to negatively review this little project, found it on Game-maker forums years ago (at-least to the best of my memory). From what I can see from guides, comments, etc. I have the most time in this game by far (at least it would seem so from a quick search of the steam page and discussions), and honestly I'm not sure if its playable for a variety of reasons. - Although the art style is honestly quite charming, visual clarity is a massive problem, seeing certain attacks or traps can be near impossible with the look of the game. - Ran into a variety of soft-locks and weird problems even trying to get into the first boss fight, enemies suddenly scaled extremely hard, becoming many times stronger when I reached the boss room. Strangely this seems to persist through to your next run at the game. I found the normal forest enemies you encounter to be much stronger after reaching the first boss, this scaling system makes future runs more and more difficult and not in a fun way. - This game tells you almost nothing. Even figuring out the basics of using items and navigating the hub was fairly challenging with no guides, and no in-game documentation to help. - In just a few hours of gameplay, the amount of soft locks in menu screens, crashes, and freezes were too much to handle. (This seems to change depending on your computer hardware, my laptop had different results compared to my desktop for example) (Although the message below still holds truth, the dev of the game is in fact still active and may return to this specific project in the future, good to hear) - Sadly, the main reason I choose the leave a review is because the game is seemingly abandoned, no updates or information in 3-4 years
This might me among the worst games I've ever paid money for. No explanations whatsoever, everything seems unfinished. After some mindless boring fighting without any introduction a wizard asks me to follow him, had no idea how. After pressing random buttons I suddenly was somewhere else and couldn't figure out what do to. Tried for 15 minutes, complete waste of time in this state. I don't care if it's developed by one guy only, provide some basic explanations on what we're supposed to do!
took a flyer on this in the last steam sale, because you never can tell when a weird little game will turn out to be wonderful. and i kind of hate to bag on games that are clearly a labor of love for someone, but... man. this game. its just... unplayable. not so much because of technical issues (although it has its fair share) but because its awful. im sorry, but it is.
