Squeak squeak, mmm cheese
Starts out promising, but quickly shows its limitations. The builds work, until they don't; the difficulty is fair, until it isn't.
Dark Souls

Dark Maus is a 2D top down indie souls-like ARPG, where you control an unnamed maus who has just washed up on a beach. And... what else to say about the story? Well, it has one... but I really didn't invest much interest in it at all. That being said, I can now move on from maybe the only one thing that holds it back (and for me it doesn't even matter) it's all good from here. I can say that this is the best indie souls-like experience I have found anywhere, beating AA titles like Mortal Shell (which I have played the hell out of!) The combat is tight, controls and AI are silky smooth and difficulty is challenging but fair (with a few annoying exceptions.) Aesthetically and musically the game is truly gorgeous and I even plan on grabbing the OST in a sale. The game is short, but wholesome and there is replay value with New Game+ to try grab the weapons and items you missed the first time round. If you're looking for an inexpensive souls-like whilst you are awaiting the next AA/AAA souls-like title to hit the market, look no further than Dark Maus, it has you covered. And... don't forget to say cheese!
This game taught me how to beat the mice that are in my walls. :)
for the love of God but achievements
"Dark Maus" is a nice and stylish top-down souls-like with an appropiate difficulty and a rather short length. The atmosphere is dense and the combat - while feeling heavy at first - is enjoyable once you get the hang of it. Exploration is rewarded and the small bits of lore fit nicely. Sadly, there is no "Estus-Flask"-mechanic, only farmable consumables for healing which may be offputting for some. Can still be considered a classic in the indie souls-like vein!
Oh hell nah, the rats are wildin' under the fridge.
This is a fun little Souls Like. The mechanic of the "ghosts" following you into combat is cool. I had some technical issues (e.g., crashes a minor list progress) a few times across my playthrough, so be aware of this potential issue.
