This game is beautiful.
Controls are very clunky. Combat is tedious and boring. Was hoping for something like Drova and got... whatever this is.
Finished the game after 10 hours and this is one heck of a gem!!! If you like games like Gothic and Drova, this will be awesome for you. It's a bit like Drova meets Zelda. It has beautiful 2D Pixel graphics like Drova, but cuter, more Zelda-like, a bit more randomization in items and map than Drova and it is smaller and hence a more contained pleasure for a weekend. Leveling is fantastic, difficulty hard but fair and all systems work together incredibly well. A big thanks to the dev for making this and my sincerest thanks for allowing me to play a necromancer in Lich robes who vaniqushed his foes by siccing an army of 20 and more skeletons on his enemies. BIG DARK FUN :)
These games have one big problem with them. The real game is designed to start when you finished the game. New game plus or whatever variation the developers like to call it is the bane of gaming. Instead of creating a large, enthralling world to progress through, instead, the whole game is designed with the intention of you replaying it to have fun with the skills. In fact, this game was so bad in that regard that there were items I still couldn't even use by the end of the game because the skill requirements were so high as these items were for the NG+ playthroughs. Why would I want to go through that slog of a story once again? No idea, but what could have been a huge enthralling world turned out to be miniscule in size that I completed it surprisingly fast despite choosing to play as the worst class/spec possible which was summoning/necromancer. There are a lot of areas in the world and items even that hint that they might have a use such as a dragon heart or, the academy tower, or even the ice tunnel, but alas, those areas are dead ends, and the swap is pretty much a dead end too. The world turned out to be disappointingly small, not helped either by the tiny RNG maps which was a pointless design choice, instead the developers should have focused on making huge seamless zones. The sad thing is, the combat was rather enjoyable and there is a solid foundation of a game here, it's just ruined by the layers on top of it which I would suggest the devs should scrap and remake the game from that solid foundation with large levels to explore and a far larger world to play through.
Super spiel, Gothic-Like im Kleinformat.
Cool game on my steam deck, had a lot of fun with it. Only did one playthrough but I appreciate the NG+ option! I look forward to future updates, game has lots of potential!
I marked this as not recommended not because I didn't like it, I actually did quite a bit, but because the game leaves a very unfulfilled taste in my mouth despite me liking it. Pretty much everything about the game is "fine". Graphics are good, nothing groud breaking. The world map is small and not really full of a lot of things to explore, but it's serviceable. The combat is ok and could be great with better controls. The equipment system is pretty standard to anyone familiar with ARPGs. And the difficulty is pleasant without being too easy or too hard. Where it falls apart are the details. The story is basic and not particularly well told. But the bigger issue is just how small the world feels. I don't get the sense that people exist here, everything just screams "video game". Generic NPC text is bland and unimaginative except for the two guards in the first two camps who need to guard animals. Main NPCs are mostly just there to give exposition and quest dialog except for Jesse, he's fun. And there's really nothing to FIND, nothing to SEE, nothing to EXPERIENCE other than the missions. The quests themselves are also very standard, there are a few nods to player choice but most things just have one outcome. Worst part was the ending. I expected the final area to actually be the start of the third act. But instead the final boss just appears, no fanfare, no real setup, no questions answered or interesting ideas presented. Just "thanks for playing". I bought this game for 7 dollars, I got 7 dollars of entertainment out of it. I finished and now pretty much the whole experience will exit my memory never to return. There was nothing of much interest here, nothing to inspire me, nothing to excite me, nothing to make me want to think about that again. It killed time, that's about all.
