Great game if you like a quick kill fest FPS. Deserves more attention than it is getting. Regular updates and improvements show the game is only going to get better.
If you like Rogue-like games or FPS games then you should buy it. It's in Early Access, but it appears to get somewhat regular updates. Buy it or don't.
You better love the ♥♥♥♥ out of bunny-hopping because that's the entirety of movement in the game; it makes you move faster and you can only dash in the air. Makes me wonder why you're even allowed to run on the ground at all. The game is a 3d bullet hell; 30 enemies all shooting projectiles at you from the first room of the game does not sound like a good time to me; if that's your jam then awesome, but there are way too many games already relying on a bullet hell philosophy for its difficulty that aren't billed as such. Oh yes and let's not forget about the big enemies, usually around 4 per room, that take about 30 seconds of non-stop shooting to kill. Maybe this will get better, who knows? It's still (relatively) new and currently in early access. At this time, however, I would recommend either Immortal Redneck or Ziggurat; both are top-notch FPS rogue-likes. This game seems to be trying to go for the Paranautical Activity-esque philosophy of "♥♥♥♥ strategy, just jump everywhere all the time".
Ive only done 2 play-throughs. My TL;DR Verdict: Do not buy. 1> Game does not detect my controller. "Controller" from the menu is grayed out, even after reconnecting my wireless xbox 360 controller (and the wireless dongle) and restarting, the grayed out "Controller" option remains inaccessible and the game does not respond to my controller. ... the Steam description of this game said partial-controller support. I guess that apparently means including the word "controller" in your options menu is qualification enough for steams partial-controller support? :P 2> Both my playthroughs, the door to the room i opened, closed and locked, with me in the prior room.. as in... i must kill all the enemies in the room i am not inside of.... to open the door to the room where all the enemies are... Imagine NES Legend of Zelda, when you walk into a room and the door locks till you kill all the monsters... Now imagine that same room, has locked, with all the monsters in it. but your still trapped outside it... pounding on the door to get in... That is "DARKEST DEPTHS" in a nutshell. both my runs i had to quit out of. because the smart tactics of using cover properly against hoards of baddies, results in halted progress of the game completely. Thats just poor coding. Bad development. Im glad i only got this on sale for $6.99usd. I don't want a refund as much as i want to see these problems fixed.. 3> I didn't see much variety in monsters, or any hint of story. 4> Movement is focused on in-air multi-jump dashes, with no bonuses for those who are ground-pounders like Doom and early Quake games. Its all too much air, and more manic in the air, then even "Mother Gunship" was. Over all im not liking it. but ill let it have a chance to grow more.... As of 2019-10-30 (almost Halloween) I recommend you Steer Away from this game. Perhaps it will be ironed out in early-access. Till then, Do Not Buy.
It's really a shame that almost the entire original game was lost in an accident, but the developer rebuilt the game from the ground up instead of giving up on it. It's literally a different game from what I played in 2019, and unfortunately it's nowhere near finished at the moment
