"Dark Lore Mysteries: The Hunt For Truth" ist ein klassisches Wimmelbildspiel. I quite liked this HOG. There was the option for skill settings, and as I like my hand held as little as possible, this worked well for me. Some reviews complained it was too confusing finding the areas, though I liked 'actually looking' for things. This made it feel more interactive, instead of looking for where the cursor lights up. And as for 'looking' despite other reviews describing the HOGs as too muddy, I get what they mean, tho once again, I enjoyed the challenge. If there were timed achievements to get, it may be more difficult, tho I found once my eyes adjusted, and i got over the initial overwhelming of scattered objects, I found most easily, and had to look a bit harder for others. It also felt like the complexity of the HOGs changed from one to the other, which if it was designed that way seemed a good ebb and flow of challenges. The relief of the easier ones seemed to turn up at the right time. I will say that there were a few that needed precise point clicking to reveal. One object I clicked 6 or 7 times, walked up to my 45" screen, and then admitting defeat, used my 'hint' button (which wd have sucked if i were going for a 'no hint used' achievement) which revealed the same object. meh The story was an adventure, it made sense, was well written and helped to get into the mind of the Detective looking in from the outside. None of the puzzles 'told' you what u needed either. (well not in advanced setting) which I enjoyed. If I had to pick on anything, it wd be that a few times i had the correct item, tho i wasnt clicking it on the exact spot, and as the item went back to my inventory, i presumed it was the wrong one. This only happened a few times tho. So yes overall, this has been one of the most enjoyable HOGs I have played. Looking forward to seeing what else these Devs have made :)
I’d probably go with a mixed review if I could. It’s not terrible, but there are better games out there. This game is a combination of hidden object scenes and a point and click adventure. There were more hidden object scenes than usual for this combination, but there were only twelve objects hidden in each scene. I would have preferred fewer hidden object scenes and more objects to find in each scene. I’ll go with a thumbs down because there’s no instant travel map. The plot had potential, but the story-telling could have been better. Some things weren’t explained well and some things weren’t explained at all. The game takes place in Wallachia in 1478, two years after the death of Vlad the Impaler. (Vlad the Impaler was the inspiration for Count Dracula.) You have been asked to investigate the suspicious death of a magistrate. Most people seem to think that a vampire is responsible, possibly Vlad himself, but your character seems awfully dismissive of this possibility and thinks that there is a logical explanation. This seemed a bit unreasonable to me. Somebody living five hundred years ago would probably have thought that vampires were indeed a logical explanation. Perhaps you were asked to investigate because you were the only person back then who didn’t believe in vampires, but this is just speculation on my part. It’s not clear exactly who your character is supposed to be and what authority, if any, he has to conduct a murder investigation. This game was released in 2014. I didn’t have any problems running it under Windows 10. However, there aren’t any achievements or trading cards. I think those are a nice bonus to have and it’s disappointing when they’re not included.
pros - good looking graphics - creepy atmosphere - easy puzzles (if you don't want to challenge) - intriguing and exciting story - cool background musics - hidden object elements are fun. - well made cut scenes - there is auto save cons - there are some badly designed trial/error puzzles. fortunately you can skip if you don't want to solve them. - game is too short - there are no Steam achievements - game doesn't drop cards
Aww shucks. This is one of those old school H.O.Gs and I adore them! Map teleport isn't necessary as the game is not only short, the passageways are rather simple and you wont backtrack as much as you might think. That and well... There isn't much to explore anyway lol. Some mini-games are creative. Some I can't solve for the life of me. But that's normal with H.O.Gs. I love me just straight up lots of H.O. scenes, so this one was right up my alley. It isn't obnoxious. It doesn't lag or hurt you in any way. So why not? Also, for the story? I actually thought
Lady in red. The daughter
was the killer. Oopsies! But that... Hmm... Yeah. Anyway. Good ol' game. Still actually works. Kudos.
NOT WORTH BUYING! bad story, anoying background music and done in about 65minutes...
Dark Lore Mysteries: The Hunt For Truth is an older game from 2014. It's a venerable 10 years old at the time of this review. It's a Hidden Object puzzle game, the type you normally see on mobile app stores or even as browser apps. There's literally hundreds of these on Steam, mostly published by Artifex Mundi, many of them free on mobile app stores, but this one will cost you money on Steam. There's a old timey horror/magic theme to the game, but this is a just a veneer over a tired and overdone set of hidden object minigames and Adobe Flash tier puzzles, wrapped together with a bunch of static screens that you "move" through by tapping your finger on your iPhone screen. While these kinds of games are popular amongst casual gamers, it's difficult to argue this is a great value proposition as a PC game, especially considering the price of this compared to the hundreds of free HOGs on the mobile app stores. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. The game features mostly static, barely animated 2D images, the kind of thing you expect to see in browser/flash games. While the artwork itself, while mediocre, might be considered passable, the visual presentation here is negligible, it might as well be a slideshow or a Youtube video. Pac-Man, Space Invaders and Asteroids had more advanced animation and visuals going on than this game does. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just point and click stuff like a browser/Flash game. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. This is a really old game, and if they had made it today, it would be on the mobile app stores, but it predates those. It's not clear why they didn't try to dump this on the app stores (since it clearly seems to be here as some kind of nostalgia gouge). Maybe it was rejected by Apple and Google (they do have more rigorous quality standards than Valve does for Steam, after all). Regardless, for all intents and purposes Dark Lore Mysteries: The Hunt For Truth might as well be a mobile app, it has the same limitations and dumbed down qualities. It's impossible to recommend such a game to PC gamers. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 8 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected. So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Dark Lore Mysteries: The Hunt For Truth has the pathetically optimistic price of around $4 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product. You can play literally hundreds of hidden object puzzle games like this for free on mobile app stores. There's no reason anyone would want to pay money for the same experience on Steam you can get for free elsewhere.
once again another proof that old HOGs are just amazing! pros great story many puzzles nice voice acting (though got accent) many locations cons. very short (only a bit more than one hour and 40 minutes) no bonus story i had two bugs one that won't let me play the game in full screen (had black screen) and my mouse courser was not pointing in the right location. i fixed both with playing in windowed mode and changed my desktop resolution to 1080p other than that i highly recommend this one... it is just fun though short but won't let you get bored. i give it 7/10
