About
Explore the secrets of a mysterious fallen temple and put your Templar faith to the test in Dark Devotion, where no sacrifice is too great in praise of your God. Measure your devotion and your bravery by journeying into deepest darkness for answers to questions that will challenge your very existence.

Dark Devotion features a richly detailed, immersive narrative that unfolds a sombre tale of your Templar religion’s irresistible calling. Every encounter challenges your fortitude, piety, and conviction as you move deeper into your cursed pilgrimage. Spanning four unique worlds, each with their own incredibly detailed environments, you’ll wield dozens of weapons in your quest to discover the Temple’s secret: all the while assailed by dark enemies and devious bosses whose core mission is to destroy your soul and damn you forever.

Throughout Dark Devotion you’ll discover an array of weapons, armors, and relics with which to enhance your character. Each item has its own attributes and statistics, and is customizable with mystical runes. It is essential that you maximize your strengths and adapt your inventory to the enemy you’re facing. Choose wisely...

Dark Devotion is a story of perseverance, dedication, and secrets. Every chest you open, every item you encounter holds another piece of the story: be it a letter, weapon, or clue, all will help you on your quest. Whether you find these secrets amongst the shadows or in the dead hand of another character ...well, that all depends.

In the Temple, Faith is your only recourse against the heathen droves. Defeat them to collect Faith and unlock secret paths, special chests, and more. But remember to use your Faith sparingly. Nothing lasts forever.

The Temple yearns to see you dead. Your survival depends on using the right item at the right time to heal your wounds or dispel a curse. Some of these items can be looted, others are scattered throughout the Temple in secret places. Employ them wisely… your life depends on it.

The eye of your God is ever-watchful. Complete an act of bravery or skill, and your God might bless you. But the Temple is also rife with despair and sickness, ready to destroy those who lack courage and temperance. Learn quickly its ways, or suffer.

Salvation is fleeting, so choose your route wisely. Every world in Dark Devotion offers several different paths. Each one is original, but all are interconnected, and the only commonality they share is that there is no turning back.

Completing your quest requires shrewd interpretation of the secrets shrouded within the Temple. It’s easy to get lost, though this might bring you favor...depending on the secret you uncover. Perhaps the Temple will reveal a hidden altar where one’s story can be saved if one honors the Temple appropriately...or perhaps not.

I don't know why this game hasn't received more attention. It seems the biggest issues is the controls and how you can't remap them, but it was fine for me with keyboard and mouse? Game sessions can be long as the save system is an awkward checkpoint system that doesn't save equipment build. Game has its flaws just as any game has, but I don't know, this game is amazing and should be seen by more people and deserves more love than it has gotten. Definitely for me is one of the best surprise indy hidden gems I have ever found.
I get why more people aren't a fan of this game, with the confusing way it spins its exploration mixed with its punishing roguelite system in place with losing gear upon death and very trickle down SLOW SLOW progression system in place to power your character up as you go along. Its a bit tricky to acknowledge the fact that if you don't like challenging games and even moreso frustrating games it will not be your cup of tea. There are alot of unforgiving aspects to this metroidvania style gaunlet of RNG and skill and it takes a long long time to get around everywhere and believe me when I say exploration and understanding the way the dungeon works is a must. However if you choose to give the game the time of day and probably end up putting in at least a dozen hours in like myself you'll find a satisfying challenge of a 2D blend of souls, vania, and rogue style gameplay with some dungeon crawling elements and a quest system sprinkled in.

Has a very bumpy start with the controls (played on controller), however, once you get past that initial unfamiliarity it gets really good. The gameplay is quite simple, really. It just will take some getting used to with the roll cancelling of attacks in an attempt to dodge an attack. Also, dodge, don't block most of the time. Dodging is way more reliable then blocking and will in most cases save your arse from a tight situation! Enemies all have predictable and fair behaviours, making you feel like a boss whenever you can get around them quickly. The skill tree and gear systems are done well with you unlocking more and more as the game goes on. Bosses are quite fun with some stellar music accompanying them. The world gets you immersed really quickly. The story won't be spoonfed to you and you'll have to do a bit of the ol' brain scratching to figure it out, but it's no FNAF or whatever insert ambiguous storytelling game. I really enjoyed the art and the environments. All-in-all, I would recommend this game, but will caution people to give the controls feel a bit of time before dropping the game. It will be tough at the start, but it will become intuitive and fun in no-time! 8/10.
The game's design is generally irritating to me. There's so many things that just feel annoying. - You need to explore the map to get the runestones to boost your stats, but you can't jump, so, if you go the wrong way, you'll have to restart the run. - Gear feels pointless. Some gear copies to the blacksmith, but most gear doesn't. The good gear that give you better health and shields do not go to the blacksmith and, when you're at the end of the game doing a boss run, there's no interest in spending another hour trying to get better gear. Eventually, you find whatever you like and stick with it. There's no fun in experimenting if only some gear is permanent. - Bosses are not as tough as they seem in the trailer. Every fight is completely reactive. Boss swings at you, you dodge, and then you'll either have to dodge again, or you can get in an attack. Half the time you spend fights standing around waiting for stamina to recharge so you don't leave yourself open. - There are I-frames when rolling, but there are no hit confirm I-frames. Normally, this doesn't matter, but, if you get hit with a multi-hit projectile, you'll end up taking 3+damage in an instant. Multi-hit attacks are all instant death moves. - The level layouts are all flat platforms and ladders. The most basic, bare-bones 2D level designs. They're awful, and, if you want stats, the game makes you fully explore them. Not to mention that hidden walls require certain weapons or items to get through them. Don't have a fire attack? Sorry, that root wall means you have to start the run over. Don't have a heavy mace weapon? No, no, the heavy sword doesn't count. That hidden wall won't break to this massive sword, only this wooden club will help you. Start the run over, or maybe spend an hour praying RNG has mercy on you with drops. Oops, your luck is bad, you wasted an hour and now have to kill yourself since you got a curse that dropped the teleport stone last room and you didn't notice. WTF. The game just keeps spitting in your eye with its obnoxious ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. - Oh, look, you put up with the game long enough to beat the final boss. HAHA. THE GAME GLITCHED WHEN YOU WON AND NOW YOU DON'T EVEN GET A FINAL CUTSCENE OR CREDITS. ♥♥♥♥ YOU. In short. Game BAD. Skip it.
Отличный крепкий Souls-like, со своими отличительными механиками и нюансами. Хороший проработанный пиксель-арт и выдержанная мрачная темная атмосфера.
souls like 2D good game
Pretty good, challenging but rewarding. Plenty of different weapons to try, and the curse mechanic is pretty interesting. The plot is a bit nonsensical but it comes with the Soulslike territory.
