The frame rate is locked at 57 FPS, causing terrible stuttering at a refresh rate of 60 Hz. That, alone, is sufficient for me to award this game an emphatic thumbs down. Incidentally, the sequel to this game - Danmaku Unlimited 3 - suffers from the exact same issue.
Great game. Difficulty is just right (can also be tweaked), length and pacing is perfect, enemy projectiles patterns are very well done being challenging but not frustrating. The soundtrack is phenomenal. Doing a run with the screen rotated 90 degrees and music blasting at high volume is such a treat.
This game is hard my friend, seriously, I was a long time in the 5th stage.but the game is AMAZING, if you like games that look like this, you NEED to play this game cuz you gonna love this game, is so cool when you see you enemy falling and the bosses, o my GOD the bosses are so PEAK, Buy this game if you love shmup games, i beat this game two times in campaign in normal mode and arcade and if i finished this game, you can beat too (cuz i am trash in games like this xD)
Danmaku Unlimited 2 Review
If you are looking to get into the "bullet hell" genre, this is the place to start. Instead of just being a blinding light show, Danmaku Unlimited 2 focuses on readability. You can actually see the patterns you need to dodge. It feels like a refinement of the genre that wants you to learn, rather than just punishing you for not having superhuman reflexes. It is disciplined, fair, and incredibly satisfying to master.
The Good

Clarity: The bullet patterns are clean and readable, meaning when you die, you usually know exactly why
Music: The soundtrack by BLANKFIELD is fantastic, mixing progressive metal with drum and bass that fits the action perfectly
Burst Mode: This system lets you turn enemy bullets into points, rewarding aggressive play rather than just passive dodging
Progression: You earn points to upgrade your ship (more lives, better damage), which helps smooth out the difficulty spikes
Boss Rush: A great way to practice specific fights without having to replay the entire stage to get there
Value: For the price, the replayability and depth here are excellent

The Bad

Controller Setup: On PC/Linux, I had to manually configure the inputs before it felt right, which was a bit of a hassle
Grind: New players might feel the need to grind for upgrades to get past some of the later difficulty walls
Scope: It is a focused arcade experience, so don't go in expecting a massive campaign or tons of different modes

Summary
Danmaku Unlimited 2 is the perfect entry point for anyone curious about bullet hell games. The music slaps, the mechanics reward skill, and it respects your time. Score: 8.5 / 10 - Very Strong
Danmaku Unlimited 2 is an immensely challenging yet rewarding bullet hell shmup. I would go as far as to say that it could even be considered one of the best shmups on Steam. This is a must-have if you like bullet hell shmups (or even just shmups in general). I would also recommend getting the soundtrack for this game as well. It can be found on Bandcamp.
Danmaku Unlimited 2, developed and published by Doragon Entertainment, is a refined and exhilarating entry in the bullet-hell shoot ’em up genre that embraces the traditions of Japanese danmaku design while introducing modern refinements that broaden its appeal. Built around the core philosophy of precision dodging, pattern memorization, and score optimization, the game delivers a tightly focused experience that prioritizes mechanical mastery over narrative or spectacle-driven excess. From the first stage to the climactic final encounter, it commits fully to the purity of its design: a lone ship against overwhelming waves of beautifully orchestrated projectile chaos. At the heart of the experience is its meticulous approach to bullet pattern design. Each stage unfolds as a carefully choreographed sequence of enemy waves and boss encounters that gradually escalate in complexity. The screen frequently becomes saturated with spirals, curtains, lattices, and cascading formations of glowing projectiles. What distinguishes Danmaku Unlimited 2 from lesser bullet-hell titles is the clarity within that chaos. Despite the sheer density of incoming fire, hitboxes are fair, patterns are readable, and success depends on deliberate positioning rather than random luck. The game encourages players to shift from reactive panic to measured confidence as they begin to recognize recurring shapes and safe lanes within the storm. The control responsiveness plays a crucial role in maintaining this balance. Movement feels sharp and precise, allowing micro-adjustments that are essential for navigating tight bullet gaps. The ship’s hitbox is intentionally small, a genre standard that enables daring maneuvers through seemingly impossible formations. This precision fosters a satisfying sense of improvement: early attempts may feel overwhelming, but repeated runs gradually transform chaos into something almost rhythmic. The transition from survival-focused play to intentional scoring strategies marks the point where the game truly reveals its depth. Danmaku Unlimited 2 offers two primary gameplay modes—Classic and Burst—each providing a distinct strategic emphasis. Classic mode leans into traditional scoring mechanics, rewarding aggressive positioning and efficient enemy destruction. Burst mode introduces a chargeable laser system that allows players to cancel enemy bullets and convert them into score multipliers. This mechanic adds a compelling risk-reward layer, as players must decide when to deploy their burst for maximum effect. The interplay between survival and scoring optimization becomes increasingly pronounced on higher difficulties, where mastering burst timing can dramatically impact performance. Progression systems further enhance replayability. Rather than relying solely on player skill from the outset, the game includes an upgrade structure that allows earned points to be invested into ship enhancements. Players can improve firepower, increase defensive capacity, or expand survivability through additional lives and continues. This gradual empowerment softens the initial learning curve while preserving the genre’s core challenge. Importantly, these upgrades do not trivialize difficulty; instead, they provide incremental support that encourages persistence and experimentation. The audiovisual presentation elevates the experience significantly. Visually, the game employs vibrant effects and contrasting color palettes that ensure bullet visibility remains clear against dynamic backgrounds. Explosions, laser beams, and enemy designs maintain a sharp, luminous aesthetic that enhances readability even in moments of extreme density. Complementing the visuals is a standout soundtrack composed by BLANKFIELD. The energetic fusion of rock and electronic elements drives momentum forward, matching the escalating intensity of each stage. The music does not merely accompany the action—it amplifies it, turning each boss encounter into a pulse-pounding spectacle. Difficulty scaling is thoughtfully implemented across multiple settings, making the game approachable for newcomers while still offering punishing trials for veterans. Lower difficulties provide breathing room to learn patterns and mechanics, while higher tiers demand near-perfect execution and advanced scoring strategies. The five-stage structure may appear concise, but the depth of mastery required for high-level play ensures longevity far beyond a single clear. Chasing higher scores, refining routes, and perfecting burst usage create a replay loop that remains compelling long after the credits roll. Ultimately, Danmaku Unlimited 2 succeeds because of its clarity of purpose. It does not dilute its identity with unnecessary systems or narrative distractions. Instead, it refines every aspect of its core loop—movement, shooting, dodging, and scoring—into a cohesive and exhilarating experience. For newcomers curious about the bullet-hell genre, it provides an accessible entry point with supportive progression mechanics. For seasoned players, it offers the precision, difficulty, and scoring depth that define the best examples of the genre. Through disciplined design and audiovisual polish, Doragon Entertainment crafted a title that stands as both a tribute to danmaku traditions and a confident statement of modern indie craftsmanship.
as an amateur shmup player, I'm very thankful that you made it tate clockwise/yoko friendly as I only play games on horizontal version, as it allows me to see bullets better. the overall gameplay is heart pumping with endless shooting gameplay that keeps me playing non stop until I 1cc it.
