For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. It's impossible to play this game without learning something about ancient Rome. While exploring the town, talking to citizens and running errands, you experience everyday life in Pompeii. Six main quests and a bunch of optional side quests teach you about many different subjects: how society was organised, which food got prepared and served, how politics in the forum worked, what people wore ... the list goes on. There are over 20 "points of interest", where you get little slide shows with a few facts and images about a specific object, practice, etc. If you want to learn more, you can listen to an audio file as well. Some of them are recorded by kids and teens, very charming! This game is very well made. The colourful cartoony artstyle and the attention to detail and historical accuracy make the world feel real and lived in. The music is varied and – for the most part – works well with the setting. Playing the game is fun, and despite the recommended age being 9+, some of the quests are not that easy! Luckily, there's always the option to get a hint :) Now, a little word of warning. You've read the title – you know what the game is about. If you're sensitive about fire, natural disaster, or having to flee, skip the last part of the game. Even though you don't see someone actually die, it gets pretty stressful. The game also doesn't shy away from sugarcoating subjects like slavery, and what remained of the real Pompeiians after the eruption. I think that's a good thing. However, if you play this game with children, you might want to discuss these subjects to make sure they're okay. A few little nitpicks I have with the game: The English translation is fine for the most part. There are a few grammatical oddities and spelling mistakes here and there. But gameplay-wise this isn't a problem. Navigation is a little hard at times. Even though there's an easy-to-read map that you can access at any given time, I got lost a lot. Maybe it's because of the combination of a 2D-sidescroller with a 3D street grid. Maybe it's just my bad sense of orientation ;) To conclude, this is an amazing game for people (especially older children and teens, but also adults!), who are interested in history and ancient Rome. For those who aren't, it can be a good entry point to the subject. Even if you just run around, do quests and have fun – you'll definitely learn something and be surprised about how advanced people were in 79 AD!

Great story and puzzles. Not too hard, not too easy. The game brilliantly turns Roman History into an epic journey. Art style is gorgeous. It's a unique game, I wish there were more like this one.
I went into Danger in Pompeii not knowing much and ended up really enjoying it. You spend the day helping different people around the city before the eruption, solving small puzzles that are tied to real bits of Roman life. The art especially and music create a nice atmosphere, and I liked how the history is blended into the tasks—you learn little things without it feeling like a lesson. Got a bit lost in the streets at some points but I think it's more due to me wanting to rush things a bit ahah. I really like the fact that this feels like a small living world and really has it's own feel. Even after finishing the game I wanted to go back just to be able to walk in the city :) Overall, it’s a short, thoughtful game that feels different from most puzzle adventures. I’m glad I picked it up.
Danger in Pompeii is a fun and simple side-scrolling narrative adventure game. It has a couple of arcade sequences, and it does have puzzles, but mostly we're just running around carrying out some very easy tasks. The graphics are good, and the gameplay is smooth, but I would say the game is a bit too shallow. The story, characters and puzzles could have been more developed and elaborate; instead, we're mostly just getting fetch quests from NPCs. Also, for a game with a supernatural element, it tells us surprisingly little about Greco-Roman mythology and religion. I wish there were more puzzles that had at least some little twist to them, like the puzzle where we need to figure out what foods and drinks to serve. Also, the puzzles could have been integrated into the narrative better. The theater play sequence is fine, but it's not linked to the actual puzzle; instead, we just need to point out the mask that matches the description. I think the puzzles that require some knowledge of Roman culture could have been done better as well (although the puzzle where we need to guess a word in a limited number of attempts is not bad). One rather annoying thing is that the UI is not keyboard-only. Once in a while I have to click on something, and then I still have to press Space to confirm the selection. There are several places where I think keyboard input needs to be implemented: shopping, switching between carried items, opening the task list, making selections in dialogs, and interacting with on-screen buttons. Also it's a bit confusing that the status line shows the location but not the active object, as highlighting doesn't work that well for smaller objects.
Really liked the comic book style graphics, it looks super original and kinda fresh compared to other games. Also the educational side is actually fun, wich is rare for this kind of 'learning games'. I just wish it was a bit more challenging and dynamic, felt a bit too easy for me, but I guess that makes it perfect for kids. For the price, totaly worth it!
Great short little game. The puzzles are a bit simple but its a fun experience for any history lover.
A great educational adventure game! If you are interested in history, enjoyed playing the historical mode in the more recent Assassin's Creed, or want a light adventure game, you will love this. As a game it has some rough edges, like dialogue seeming to misfire or skip sections. The gameplay is simple, but I don't consider that a weakness here as the history is clearly meant to take center stage. A few suggestions I have are: subtitle the spoken sections of the "point of interest" parts, include a small glossary of some latin terms for reference, and (if you haven't, I haven't finished the game to check yet) include a bibliography and further reading section for people who would like to learn more. This is a great educational game, and I think a real achievement in the genre.
Cute educational adventure puzzle game mainly aimed at 10-12-year-olds.
