[H1]The only kitchen mess I enjoyed[/H1] Thank you to DarZal Games for the curator copy. This is nonetheless an impartial review. This one is EXTREMELY cozy and well, honestly barely a HOG. Think quiet evening, low effort, soft vibes. You’re basically house-sitting, when you meet a friendly kitchen spirit named Bouillon (Boo-lloin, yes I smiled), and spend four days helping cook 10 meals by finding utensils and ingredients in a messy kitchen. Each search is randomized and recipes have variations depending on what you pick, which keeps things a bit fresh (but also ends up being a bit of a double-edged sword). There’s a lot to like if you’re here for the vibe. The zoom is solid, the UI is simple, and you’ve got fullscreen, plus separate sound sliders. The hint system is instant and unlimited: it straight up reveals items with sparkles and doesn’t block achievements, which makes this super accessible. Bouillon is adorable and reacts differently depending on what you cook, which is a nice touch. Big plus for completionists: once you’ve cleared everything, you unlock checklists that stay visible during levels and you can skip cutscenes to clean up what’s left. On the flip side though, this is very easy. Like, child-level easy. Aside from utensils, most ingredients have alternatives, so you can grab almost anything and still finish a recipe. Add to that how visible everything is, and the “search” part barely puts up a fight. It’s also short (around 40 minutes to 100%), light on story, and only saves between recipes (no manual save, so you need to finish a level before quitting). Not a huge issue here, but still worth knowing. Also, the colors are quite bright and there’s no brightness option, which might be a bit much for some setups. So yeah, this one clearly knows its audience: players who want to relax, follow along, and enjoy a cute little cooking setup without pressure. You're looking after your friend Kiko's apartment while she travels, and it turns out her kitchen is haunted by the most adorable food spirit you've ever met: a shy ghost with the name of Bullion (as in "Boo" + bouillon). Do you like cooking? Then have fun cooking different recipes, finding the right ingredients and tools, turning on the stove, and OPLA! The dish is ready!!! Salads, drinks, bread, pasta, crepes, soups, burritos, smoothies, ravioli, and desserts. We can create different variations of each dish and add ingredients of our choice. The music is enjoyable to listen to. I highly recommend it! I had a lot of fun combining ingredients, and I even used my imagination to make unusual dishes. It's fun to mess around in the kitchen without having to wash the dishes! Messy Recipe is a pretty short 'n' sweet game -- it took me just over an hour to complete it with all variants to get all the achievements. Given the price, that feels pretty fair, though I'd have maybe liked a little more replayability. Most of the levels are really easy, and it's not really possible to do it wrong, though it can take a bit of puzzling to figure out exactly which items are wanted for a particular outcome, once you're trying to do all the recipes. The hints system is generous: hints are unlimited and point you directly to the items you need, though it may not be helpful if you're trying to do a particular recipe rather than just any. The concept is cute, and I couldn't help but smile at all the nicknames for Bouillon. I'd have maybe liked a touch more of a challenge, but it was a nice distraction for an hour's worth of play, as long as you're not expecting too much challenge or a long gameplay time.

This was really heckin' cute. there's a cute ghost that's a part of the plot and a fun friend that sends you letters. You look for random recipe items in a kitchen and cook recipes with them. There's multiple achievements for getting every single recipe, but the game doesn't make it frustrating and you can pretty much guess what you need to get all of them. Recommend if you want a simple hidden object game with cute plot! Finished? Yes Steam Achievements? You'll have to guess for the recipes, there's no guide, but it was simple for me. Steam Deck? This game could be fun. Only it lacks content. The recipes are done in a few minutes. The ingredients are far to easy to find. And there's no motivation to try the recipes again with different ingredients. This would be good enough for a demo, but as a full-fledged game it's simply not enough, or rather, it belongs in the under €1 category. Can't recommend it.

In Messy Recipe, you make 10 different recipes by searching the kitchen for ingredients and tools to use. It is fun looking for the hidden items, and there is a hint system if you get stuck. The story is also sweet, and you slowly befriend a kitchen ghost named Boullion. The Steam achievements do add replayability to the game, as you are encouraged to go back and make all the variations of the recipes. That said, the game took around an hour to play through the story and complete all the achievements. However, Messy Recipe is a cute and fun hidden object game.
