About
In Cube Chaos you place cubes each of which has its own abilities and behaviours.
In practice it plays like a unique rogue-lite mix of rts, autobattler and towerdefense.
Call forth a rat above every non rat ally,
use catapults to catapult those rats past the enemy defenses,
meanwhile defend yourself with self repairing shield walls and
summon lightning clouds which teleport above enemies and zap them.
Just to sample a strategy.

Sure Triple Shot makes your guns shoot 3 bullets sometimes, but it also makes your anthills make more ants, your replicating crabs might triplicate, your dead enemies might turn into 3 zombies.
The perks in this game are meant to allow for strange and unusual strategies outside of what I the developer directly intended.
Want to buy something in the shop but didn't collect enough gold? Just go into debt!
Want to stack a perk 8 times in exchange for some of the most horrible curses my mind could cook up? Cursed trades got you covered!
Cube Chaos encourages you to take calculated risks and reap the rewards of living on the edge of defeat, rewarding you with both memorably victories, teaching defeats and if you are very lucky something so completely broken I'll have to consider adjusting it in the next balance patch.

550+ handmade Units used by both you and your AI opponents.

This is a cool idea, but falls short in many respects. While there are many interesting "cubes" with complex behavior, the short battles and roguelike nature mean you will never get a respectable machine going, or at least you certainly can't do so reliably. The reliable strategies that you can replicate from battle to battle and win a run with are one or another kind of "zergling rush": knock out the enemy leader with bullets or ants. Winning strategies rely on a small number of simple, cheap cubes that don't depend on a lot of interactions, which runs contrary to what it feels like the game wants you to do, which to me reflects a poorly realized game concept. The "powerful" "interesting" cubes are locked behind high mana cost and often don't do anything without a lot more expensive setup. You'll never play a run where all opponents allow you that setup. Some of them will, because the enemy AI is fully stupid: "Place random cube in valid position". Some tricky battles (if you haven't found bullets or ants yet) are saved only because the enemy puts a wall in front of the gun they were blitzing you down with. Further discouraging exploration of the game's potential complexity is the fact that the effect descriptions are often pretty rough. "Every 3 seconds, enemy leader, which has manacost greater than 1000, if there is an ally, for every space in each of the four directions around the victim, this cube creates a copy of the cube at position x in your hand, where x is target's column number, divided by 100, except that copy gains Melee: every 2 seconds, do 2 damage to every touching enemy and neutral, and loses this ability." For 100 mana? I'm not even going to read that for 100 mana. No thanks. I'll just rush him down with ants again.

Things you can do in cube chaos: get killed by tax collectors. Fill the entire map with Mould. Recreate the Xenomorph lifecycle but with Rats. raise one of several kinds of dragon. get so many dragons you use their eggs as a shield. Summon a brick wall and teach it to run. Summon a black hole and teach it to run. Turn the entire world into sludge and mine it for mana. accidentally place 500 living acid bombs next to yourself. give people parasites through bad bread. Fall into the mouth of a elder god. Vibrate a stone block to death to generate electicity. Force your enemies to generate so much mana they instakill themselves. Fill every atom in the observable universe with grenades. Smuggle an emotional support Nuke into your enemies base. create a endless chain reaction of explosives using bubbles. crash your PC by filling the entire map with endless mould. end the eternal termite war. fight (and beat!) a bottomless pit. build a robot factory that builds robots faster than the robots can leave. make a very nice soup. drain an entire acid ocean onto yourself. reverse gravity so your enemies fall up into the acid ocean your fighting under.
exiled my debt collectors from reality irreversibly, and it wasn't even the highlight of the run
Cube Chaos is basically a cellular automaton with extra steps, and I love it. It's emergent, there's a lot of synergies to discover, and plenty of ways to break the game. The only two complaints I have are somewhat obtuse UI; and lack of any safeguards, which would prevent the game from freezing when your god run spirals out of control.
game made for gamers........ its like if dwarf fortress was a side scrolling rts deckbuilders....... looks quite ugly but the core gameplay is soooo addictive figuring how to make the cards given synergize with your build in some way...... so many interesting interactions between cubes.... my only complaints im sure will be fixed in the future: many cards have confusing/vague descriptions,,,, but i somewhat enjoy just simply having theories on what cubes do and then seeing how they actually work on the battlefield. the game simply looks like dev art...... which is fair as its made by 1 guy...... but it clear game development is this guys strong suit.... but i think in the future a visual overhaul is possible......
Use one cube to make duplicates of another cube placed behind it. The duplicate is dropped to a third cube that turns the duplicate into a cube in my hand that I can place for free. You can animate a rock cube that's normally used as a wall to go forth and fight your enemies. Stack mana regen so high you die instantly. Breathe a sigh of relief when you have a back-up leader. Lose the game because your back-up leader is a chunk of stone that spawned at map gen, sitting right next to the enemy leader. Hurt your own allies to hurt your enemies. Give the cube you're hurting a max health buff that increases over time. Give them 200 health and win the match with one attack on it. There are too many ways to win and many ways to lose in unexpected ways. Finding all the silly ways to win makes this game unique beyond any game I've played. Sometimes it's the one strategy you didn't think would work that turns an impossible match into an easy win. Such a good game.
it's really fun :> very noitesque deckbuilding stuff going on, i'll sometimes get a crazy build rolling before i accidentally grab some nasty anti-synergy and destroy myself
This might be the most strategically complex game I've ever played. Seriously. This is a game about trying to either build a basic tower defense and offense of mobile units, or trying to build a Rube Goldberg machine of effects that will eventually win you the level, while being constantly threatened by your computer opponent doing the same. Your strategy of plant soldiers walking across flying giant wurms to attack the enemy boss from above works great until the opponent reverses gravity or drowns you in in sand.
Deck building heavy theorycraft (siralim ultimate/path of achra) + Physic Sandbox (powder toy) the first few hours is trying to win the game, but it kicks off pretty fast once players discover and thread their first infinite combo—and realize how big the possibilities can be.
