Beautifully pixeled local multiplayer bullet hell; well worth playing in the single player mode a few times before attempting to take on a challenger!
Idk, just left it running for cards

Не только ты свои мечты скрываешь, За шторами весны… Дождями шли не для того, чтобы... Развернуться и уйти....
Crystal Control II, developed and published by Virtually Competent, LLC, is a tightly focused competitive action game that distills arcade-style shooting down to its most essential elements. Rather than attempting to offer sprawling modes, narrative framing, or long-term progression systems, the game commits fully to fast, high-intensity one-on-one encounters where positioning, timing, and nerve matter more than anything else. Its minimalist philosophy is immediately apparent, presenting players with a pure contest of skill that feels closer to a digital arcade cabinet than a modern multiplayer service game. At the center of the experience is the crystal control mechanic that gives the game its identity. Each match unfolds in compact arenas scattered with crystals that must be captured to increase offensive power. At the start, both players are relatively weak, firing modest bullet patterns that encourage movement and caution. As crystals are claimed, firepower escalates dramatically, turning the battlefield into a dense bullet-hell environment where a single mistake can be fatal. This creates a constant push-and-pull between aggression and restraint, as players must decide whether to rush for dominance or bait their opponent into overextending. Combat itself is immediate and unforgiving. A single successful hit ends the round, making every second feel tense and meaningful. Movement is smooth and responsive, and shooting patterns are easy to understand but difficult to master. Because arenas are small and encounters brief, players are forced to read their opponent’s habits quickly, anticipate movement, and react under pressure. Matches often devolve into intense mind games, where feints, sudden retreats, and well-timed charges decide victory just as much as raw reflexes. Character variety adds depth to this otherwise stripped-down formula. Each playable fighter comes with unique movement traits and a powerful “Control” ability that becomes available when crystal dominance is achieved. These abilities can dramatically alter the flow of a match, functioning as momentum-shifting tools rather than guaranteed win buttons. Learning when to activate these powers, and how to counter them, becomes a crucial part of higher-level play. While the roster is relatively small, the differences between characters are meaningful enough to support experimentation and personal preference. The game is clearly designed with local multiplayer as its primary focus. Sitting side by side with another player, controllers in hand, is where Crystal Control II feels most alive. The immediacy of local competition amplifies tension, turning short matches into memorable bursts of rivalry and excitement. A solo practice mode exists and serves as a useful way to learn mechanics and refine movement, but it lacks the unpredictability and psychological pressure of human opposition. Without a second player, the experience feels more like training than a complete game. Visually, the game embraces clarity over spectacle. Characters, bullets, and crystals are instantly readable, ensuring that the chaos of bullet patterns never becomes confusing. Effects are flashy enough to communicate power shifts and special abilities without overwhelming the screen. Sound design is similarly functional, reinforcing actions with sharp audio cues that make hits, captures, and abilities feel impactful. While the presentation is modest, it aligns perfectly with the game’s arcade-inspired design goals. That focus, however, comes with trade-offs. The absence of online multiplayer significantly limits accessibility, especially for players who don’t regularly have someone to play with locally. Content is intentionally limited, and there are no extended modes, unlock trees, or progression systems to sustain long-term solo engagement. This makes Crystal Control II feel highly specialized, offering immense satisfaction in its intended context but little flexibility outside of it. Ultimately, Crystal Control II succeeds by knowing exactly what it wants to be. It is a concentrated competitive experience built around quick matches, escalating tension, and player-versus-player mastery. It does not chase trends or attempt to broaden its appeal through extraneous features. Instead, it delivers a sharp, focused duel that rewards practice, awareness, and composure under pressure. For players who enjoy intense local competition and appreciate games that strip mechanics down to their most refined form, Crystal Control II offers a compact but deeply engaging test of skill. Rating: 5/10
Controlled crystals like a DJ and they threw a light show inside my skull just for fun.
