The only game I'd recommend doing drugs before playing So weird but so awesome
Review:
If there were a neutral review option, I would have chosen it. Critters for Sale is a surreal game that won't appeal to everyone. Personally, I was rather divided. There were aspects I enjoyed, such as the wacky characters, unique art style, and the gradual unraveling and piecing together of the story. However, there were also elements I disliked, including parts of the game that felt overly random and a sound design that occasionally hurt my ears. It's a unique point-and-click game, but for my taste, it is too heavily on randomness.
Completionist Review:
There are five different stories to choose from when starting the game, all of which are somewhat interconnected. Some stories feature multiple endings, including a few gag endings, a bad ending, a neutral ending, and a true ending. If you plan on playing this game, it's worth taking the time to unlock all of the endings.

Critters for Sale is an unconventional narrative adventure that confidently embraces surrealism, psychological horror, and philosophical storytelling instead of relying on traditional gameplay conventions. Developed and published by Sonoshee, the game unfolds through a collection of interconnected stories that revolve around themes such as mortality, destiny, forbidden knowledge, and humanity's encounters with incomprehensible cosmic forces. Rather than presenting a single protagonist or a straightforward plot, it introduces five separate episodes that can be experienced in any order, each following different characters whose lives become entangled with strange events and mysterious entities. Although every chapter initially feels self-contained, subtle narrative threads gradually reveal a much larger universe filled with hidden meanings and unsettling secrets, rewarding players who pay close attention to dialogue and environmental details. The game's world is remarkably imaginative, combining elements of folklore, occult mythology, science fiction, and existential horror into a setting unlike almost anything else on Steam. Players encounter bizarre locations and unforgettable characters, from mysterious beings that transcend time to strange civilizations that exist beyond ordinary human understanding. Floating gardens, supernatural palaces, alternate timelines, and extraterrestrial influences all become pieces of a carefully crafted mythology that constantly challenges the player's expectations. Instead of explaining every mystery outright, the narrative encourages interpretation, leaving many questions unanswered while offering enough clues to build personal theories about the relationships between the different stories. This fragmented approach may not satisfy everyone, but it creates an atmosphere of intrigue that lingers long after each chapter ends. Gameplay focuses primarily on exploration, dialogue, and player choice rather than action or complex puzzle-solving. As a point-and-click adventure combined with visual novel elements, the experience is built around making decisions that shape the outcome of each story. Multiple endings provide strong replay value, as different choices can determine the fate of important characters while revealing additional pieces of the overarching narrative. The mechanics remain intentionally simple, allowing the storytelling and atmosphere to take center stage. Players looking for fast-paced gameplay or intricate puzzles may find the interactions somewhat limited, but those who appreciate story-driven experiences will likely enjoy the deliberate pacing and emphasis on meaningful decision-making. One of Critters for Sale's greatest strengths is its unforgettable presentation. The game adopts a distinctive 1-bit black-and-white visual style that transforms every environment into something both beautiful and deeply unsettling. Rather than chasing realism, its minimalist art direction amplifies the surreal nature of the world, allowing imagination to fill in the details of its disturbing imagery. Every scene feels carefully composed, with dramatic contrasts between light and darkness creating a dreamlike quality that perfectly complements the narrative. The soundtrack reinforces this atmosphere through eerie ambient music and haunting sound design, ensuring that even quiet moments carry an underlying sense of tension. Together, the visuals and audio create an artistic identity that remains memorable from beginning to end. Another notable aspect of the game is its willingness to explore mature and challenging subject matter. Its stories examine themes of power, sacrifice, corruption, life, death, and the unknown through symbolic storytelling instead of direct exposition. Influences drawn from Middle Eastern and North African folklore help distinguish the experience from more familiar Western horror traditions, giving its mythology a fresh and unpredictable character. The result is a narrative that feels intellectually engaging as well as emotionally unsettling. However, this artistic ambition also creates a barrier for some players. The abstract storytelling can occasionally become difficult to follow, and the lack of straightforward explanations means that much of the narrative requires careful interpretation. Those seeking a conventional horror story with clearly defined objectives and resolutions may struggle with its intentionally ambiguous structure. Despite these challenges, Critters for Sale succeeds because it remains committed to its creative vision from beginning to end. It does not attempt to appeal to every audience, instead focusing on delivering a distinctive interactive experience that values symbolism, atmosphere, and imagination over accessibility. The anthology format keeps each chapter fresh while slowly building a fascinating larger mythology, and the branching decisions encourage multiple playthroughs for players eager to uncover every possible outcome. Its striking artistic direction, memorable writing, and fearless originality make it one of the more unique narrative adventures available, particularly for fans of experimental storytelling and psychological horror. Rating: 9/10

This game is a confusing experimental mess. The surreal environment, beautifull soundtrack and art all manage to turn the psychedelic story into an extremly unique and memorable experience. Just a clarification, the game could get repetitive at times since the only gameplay is point and click especially while trying to find all of the endings, but the aesthetics heavily make up for it.

The best way I could describe this game is if the works of David Lynch and Junji Ito had a very special child. I, personally, really enjoy the psychological games that leave you mind-cucked and always asking questions. It's not for everyone, just the small niche audience that likes this genre of game.
