When you get deeper and deeper it get really good almost like playing Daggerfall if you don't know this game just research it and play it really old classic game of Elder Scrolls like Skyrim.
Let me just start out by acknowledging that yes, this is in early access and there are some things that could be better. Presently locomotion is strictly by teleport, which could be a deal breaker for some. Once when I exited the game the short sword I had smithed vanished - not a huge problem since the rusty one you get at the start is almost as good, but still an issue if it happens with other things. Putting bugs and upcoming features aside, this is what I think of the game as it stands. The good: Swordplay can be pretty engaging, with opponents attacking from different angles or with different combinations of strikes that you'll need to block so you can get your own damage in on the counter. Think of it as the Punch Out of rogue-likes. The environments, while a little repetitive at times, look good and the dynamic lighting as you wave a torch around is pretty well done. Occasionally you'll see a shadow under a candle that doesn't quite go away when the area is lit by your torch, but overall it's a good effect. The bad: Smithing is, frankly, boring. You put a blueprint on a table, toss steel at it until you run out or have enough, then shove a bar of steel into the forge to wait until it heats up. When that's done you beat on it any old way or place on the anvil and then move it vaguely back and forth on a grindstone. For all the difference your efforts make it might as well give you the result once you have the blueprint and materials. Also noteworthy: As things stand, you really can't do much in a fight aside from wait for the enemy to attack you. While I do enjoy the block and counter gameplay, sometimes an enemy is standing close enough to stab in the face, or simply dancing around without attacking, and it would be nice to have a way to take advantage of this kind of opening. Due to the skill intensive combat, you will also never (at least in my experience) face multiple opponents. Once I was beating on a goblin that had somehow or other lots its sword while retaining a shield and helmet. Another goblin in the next room didn't join the battle until the first had died. This makes me assume that two enemies at once simply can't happen - as stated, with the skill-based fighting it would be extremely hard to fight multiple opponents at once anyway, but it does seem a little off for a rogue-like. Overall I feel this is worth playing already, and would recommend it to anyone who wants to do some serious swordplay. Just don't get too upset if some bug does happen and your best weapon goes missing - I'm sure that in time that will be fixed. In the meanwhile, it *may* show up again in the armory without simply vanishing from your hand as you enter the cellar like it did to me.
Keine NDA, keine Werbung.
awesome basic vr dungeon crawler, sword play feels realistic, very difficult
Lovin' it. Just wish they'd let me find a shield, not just a sword. :) reckon I'll try making one next, as I seem to have lost all I gained. Up to and including the achievements I'm pretty sure I earned...first sword, goblin guard...and how is it only NEARLY all players got the 'start game for first time' one??? something fishy here. :P Anyway, thoroughly overjoyed to finally be dungeoncrawling 'for real'. :P
pretty lame combat, the procedural part is cool, but without any decent combat to back it up it's not really worth the effort.
( PLAYING ON AN OCULUS RIFT S ) -------------------------------------------------------- My left hand was my right hand, and my actual left hand was hanging on the ground. Reset controllers and re-sync'd the entire system. which resulted in nothing new. (Friend tried the same thing with his set, and we attempted this on another gaming computer in my household) No change in the results. Refunding and will buy again in the future.... maybe. Was really excited to play this, but was left very disappointed.
I found Crawling of the Dead to be an enjoyable solo Dungeon Delve. It is not a perfect game but has a lot of good qualities. The graphics are good and the use of shadows gives you the feeling of really going through a dark dungeon. Combat with the enemies is fun and takes a little bit of practice to really get good at it. I am glad the dev added smooth locomotion as that helps with the Dungeon Crawl experience and I prefer over teleport in most games. I have not completed the dungeon but am looking forward into going further down in the cellar and fighting tougher opponents. The two main suggestions I would have is some sort of co-op mode. Dungeon Crawling is always better with friends. The second would be a little more background and story. The pages and narrated clips are done very well, but maybe something more on who we are and why exploring the dungeon. I definitely recommend this game if you enjoy RPG style adventures. The dev has done a good job and I am looking forward to future updates.
I thought the game was very fun, I would say this game is a modern day roguelike in VR. The game needs some polish but I still think it is very well done for an indie title.
