Written By Hidden Gems Review : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/38624426/, Follow me!
Corrupted: Dawn of Havoc is an Auto Roguelike Deckbuilder. A game with a lot of potential, why? Because his gameplay it's like slay the spire with steroids XD What I mean is that I love the face paced on the deckbuilder games but this one gets even more faster rhythm since the autobattle it's with the deckbuilder which feels pretty more alive, faster and strategic. For the graphics and visuals I wouldn't change anything love the sprites, movement and effects.
Honestly fun concept but can't play three stages in a row without some card not working because it's so shoddy made. It functions like a phone game from a decade ago. Either the translations are missing or terrible, and the cards just don't function or do something else. It's a solid premise made out of poop and worse code. here's hoping they can fix it, but I'm not holding my breath. Also having looked at the update history it's clearly abandoned and should be avoided.
Slay the Spire
A Card Game KING review
Autobattlers like Team Fight Tactics were an obvious inspiration for the game but card fans who don't like autobattlers might still enjoy it. The game combines a few ideas together, deckbuilding, squad based play and autobattler. The autobattler part needs some clarification. While yes, your heroes do use basic attack and move by themselves, you still have full control of cards being played during the battle. You can even pause the game while you play your cards, so in a way it reminds me of a real time strategy with pause. And in a way, I wish it was, since having very little control over attacks and especially movement sometimes leads to situations where your heroes end up in weird spots with little ways to get them out of it, although it doesn't end up too often. With that being said, I enjoyed the rest of the game. It's very polished for an EA title. The design, sound and gameplay loop feel smooth. It has a very fun item combination mechanic where you can combine two items to create a new one (like in TFT). You also get stat boost items that help create very powerful heroes. The card play and deckbuilding is satisfying with two ways of upgrading cards and lots of ways to interrupt enemy's powerful skills making the timing of playing cards essential. It's also worth mentioning that the game allows you to re-do any battle (so I guess not a roguelike) but it also allows you to get permanent upgrades, roguelite style. There are a few bugs in the game, but nothing too serious for an EA title.
The positive
+ Solid deckbuilding and card play with an accent on timely card play (pause supported thankfully :)) + Combining items into a more powerful one. + Polished UI and sound. + Upgrades! Different ways to upgrade cards, stats and artifacts that give permanent passives. + You can redo a lost battle infinite number of times so you won't lose runs because of a single mistake or AI decision.
The neutral
* Permanent, between mission upgrades. I'm not a fan of these as you are never sure if you are getting better at the game or winning due to simply playing it and buying upgrades. But it's a personal preference.
The negative
- The autobattler aspect where you have no control over movement or attack targets. Sometimes heroes just walk into a tile that gives huge debuffs or get surrounded by enemies with very few ways provided to get them out. I truly wish there was a way to control heroes even at the expense of energy. - There are a bit too many battles and runs can easily take 2-3h.
Conclusion:
Solid deckbuilder with semi-automated combat where timing of playing cards is essential. Lack of ways to directly influence movement/attack can be frustrating at times.
It's fun. It's the first game I bought on Steam after a friend recommended it, and it has the charm of tower defense. It's not necessary, but using physical elements can make it even more enjoyable. My recommended combination is starting with Rampage, Fuse, Boom, and then adding Relief. There can be various builds, but the collaboration between Fuse and Boom is very good for deck building.
