Nice but please change that shotgun sound and why those boxes and crap on the way are so hard to break ??? Life of boxes is scaling with level, that's just annoying... Things are getting hard after Level 10, impossible at 18, debuffs are challenging but would be nice to see more types of bugs instead of hundreds of little ones that make the game laggy. Spawn kills are frequent and should be fixed
Combat Complex is an ambitious indie action RPG that merges twin-stick shooter mechanics with roguelike progression, creating an experience built around fast reflexes, constant adaptation, and rewarding character growth. Developed and published by Spherical Horse Studios, the game places players in a hostile science-fiction setting where survival depends on mastering combat encounters, collecting valuable equipment, and making smart decisions about risk and reward. While many games attempt to combine multiple genres, Combat Complex succeeds by ensuring that each system contributes meaningfully to the overall gameplay loop. The most immediately appealing aspect of the game is its combat. Battles are fast, chaotic, and highly dependent on player skill rather than simple numerical advantages. Movement is fluid, aiming feels responsive, and encounters often require players to dodge waves of enemy attacks while simultaneously managing positioning and weapon usage. The variety of futuristic weaponry helps keep combat fresh, with different tools encouraging unique approaches to battle. Whether unloading powerful energy-based attacks or relying on crowd-control tactics, players are constantly challenged to react quickly and think strategically under pressure. A major strength of Combat Complex lies in how it approaches progression. Instead of simply rewarding players with permanent upgrades after every mission, the game incorporates roguelike elements that add tension to every run. Valuable loot must often be extracted successfully to be retained, creating a constant sense of risk. Every decision to push deeper into dangerous territory carries the possibility of greater rewards but also the threat of losing progress. This balance creates a satisfying gameplay loop that encourages careful planning without becoming overly punishing. The game's procedural generation further strengthens its replay value. Each run presents different environments, enemy arrangements, and combat situations, preventing the experience from becoming predictable. Rather than relying on memorization, players must adapt to changing circumstances and make use of whatever resources they discover during a run. This unpredictability works especially well alongside the loot and progression systems, ensuring that every play session offers new opportunities and challenges. Character customization is another area where Combat Complex demonstrates considerable depth. Players can develop specialized builds through a combination of skills, equipment, and stat allocation. Some may prefer highly durable characters capable of surviving prolonged firefights, while others may focus on maximizing offensive power at the cost of survivability. The flexibility of the system allows experimentation and rewards players who enjoy discovering powerful synergies between abilities and gear. As new equipment is acquired, character builds continue to evolve, adding another layer of long-term engagement. One of the more interesting mechanics highlighted by the game is its emphasis on environmental and enemy interaction. Instead of simply avoiding threats, players can manipulate combat situations to their advantage by positioning enemies into hazardous attacks or exploiting battlefield conditions. This design choice adds tactical depth and encourages creative problem-solving during encounters. Moments when enemies accidentally eliminate one another or become trapped by their own attacks can be particularly satisfying and help distinguish Combat Complex from more straightforward shooters. Visually, the game adopts a functional science-fiction style that prioritizes readability during intense action sequences. The environments, effects, and enemy designs may not be groundbreaking, but they serve their purpose effectively. Combat remains easy to follow even when numerous enemies and projectiles fill the screen, which is essential for a game that relies heavily on quick reactions. The atmosphere successfully conveys the feeling of exploring dangerous alien-infested environments while maintaining clear visual communication. As an Early Access project, Combat Complex is still evolving. The current version already contains the core mechanics necessary for an enjoyable experience, but some players may notice areas where additional content could further expand the game. Fortunately, the existing foundation is strong enough to inspire confidence in its future development. Planned additions such as more weapons, enemies, bosses, equipment, and progression systems have the potential to significantly increase both depth and variety over time. Combat Complex may not have the production values of a major studio release, but it compensates with engaging gameplay systems and a clear understanding of what makes action roguelikes enjoyable. Its combination of responsive shooting, meaningful progression, procedural variety, and build customization creates an experience that remains entertaining across repeated runs. For players who enjoy skill-based combat mixed with RPG progression and roguelike unpredictability, this title offers a compelling package with plenty of room to grow as development continues. Rating: 8/10
Completely disinterested in using the gravity utility items.
love the top down shooter one of my favorites in gaming & gameplay awesome game of the year appove
This deserves better than a "mixed" rating. It's a fun twin-stick shooter from a small team trying new things. There is a lot of potential here and some satisfying, ricochetting gunplay. I like the twist of making enemy attacks work against other enemies.
piece of shirt
The game is still in development so there are a lot of rooms for improvements but seems very good. Just need the animations and more things to do.
Awesome game! Non stop action! Very smooth on Steam Deck. Tons of guns, upgrades and enemies. True gem. Keep going...
