College Quest

I'm a big fan of Police Quest and Space Quest. I love just about all of the old school Sierra and Lucas Arts games. I really appreciate the developers for making this game. I always love to see people try and come back to make games in this format. Making a game like this based on College seems like a great idea. The problem is poor execution. The game is very underwhelming... It feels like it's missing something in every department. It makes a very poor first impression and it just doesn't have the immersion that these games normally do. The music is not bad though. The game feels very cheap... I could barely stand to play it for than 10 minutes... feels below average even for 1980s standards IMO. I think I would be less harsh if this were $3-$5 bucks... but for $14.99; I got to give it to you straight. There are plenty of better P&C games asking for a lot less. Perhaps I'll give it another shot during a sale. No offense to the developer(s), I hope they keep making games like this. For whatever reason, this one didn't work for me. I would definitely recommend this game. The old school graphics take me back. This is a game where the player must explore and discover things on their own without handholding. I do encourage having something to take notes with like back in the old days. It's quite a journey with great dialogue. I love the humor that's mixed in. While there is a fair amount of reading and no voice acting, this game does well immersing the player and getting them to think.

Cool old-school graphic adventure set in college based on the life experiences of the designer. This is a pretty open-ended challenging game, but there's a fun sense of discovery. Be sure to keep tabs on your money and keeping track of the clues to ace all of your assignments. It's a unique setting for this sort of game, and there's plenty of humorous asides. Playing School Quest first is not required.

Anthony Anselmo’s College Quest is published by Pretty Bird Games. This adventure game uses the pixel-art aesthetic and point-and-click interface popularized by Sierra On-Line to simulate being an art student. It captures the triumphs and tribulations of collegiate life; the comradeship, the stress, the food. One tribulation it uses to great effect is the constant spending of money. There’s never enough of it and needs to be spent as soon as it’s made. Never fear adventurers. just like its Sierra inspirations, College Quest always provides a way to continue the adventure.
