I really enjoy the game, although I found mods like DOT or EPIC far more enjoyable than the base game, they are not hard to install so I would recommend installing them to make the game more enjoyable. Although some mods are still missing some models but the base version not. Great if you like submarines.

To put it bluntly, don't play vanilla. The game is too oversimplified. The mods though, they really make it worth the buy. DotMod is fantastic
After several hours of (frustrating) gameplay, I gave up. Enemy warships and subs fire torps within seconds of entering a game. Not only that, the torpedoes have seemingly foolproof homing, and are next to impossible to evade. The only good thing is your own torpedoes will turn away from countermeasures, but you have to constantly babysit them or they will do nothing but turn in circles. I thought 688(i) was hard, but this? This is just an exercise in frustration.
細膩的潛艦模擬遊戲,能打解放軍就是爽~
在sea power出来前就靠冷水+epic mod过瘾了
A great game if you like submarines, but i would defiantly wait for sale. I got it for 10 bucks and had a lot of fun for the price.
Dear Killer Fish games; I've come to terms with the fact that you have moved on and no longer support this game. But, if some day in the future you guys are wondering "what should we do next?" Make COLD WATERS 2!!!! All you have to do, is incorporate all the great mods into the game, update the graphics, ADD MULTIPLAYER and presto, NEW CASH COW FOR YOU! I guarantee everyone who bought this game will buy the next. 🙏Please?🙏 Original Review: This game is good, but feels unfinished. Like more of a beta than a complete product. There seems to be missing features. The most glaring of them is the lack of multiplayer or a soviet campaign. If you decide to buy this game, MOD it! The mods make it worthwhile. And also, only buy it when it is on sale. It's not worth full price. If the developer would circle back to this game and finish it I might change my tune. Despite all this, I still want to give it thumbs up because it's a lot of fun.
Cold Waters is a fantastic subsim that teaches you how the Mk48 doesn't use sonar to find it's target, but rather - smells their fear. You are the commanding officer of an American nuclear submarine (because I guess Navy standards dropped or something) tasked with either sinking a wolfpack of diesel-electric submarines to protect convoys in the Atlantic, sneaking past layers of enemy port defences to launch a SEAL team out of your torpedo tubes or executing land-attack missions - which involves launching about 8 Tomahawks to reduce weapons caches to scrap. Or Comsublant, high on crack, tells you to 'sink that damned soviet task force headed for the Spratlys with your one torpedo'. I have one torpedo. I can't ♥♥♥♥♥- This game has some training missions and I highly recommend you play through them first. It's of very high importance you know which enemy ships do what, and the strengths and weaknesses of the boats available to you. For the strengths of your boat, case in point: The Mk48. After using WW2 vintage Mk16 dumb-fire torpedoes and Mk37 ASW torpedoes for quite a damn while, the US Navy finally made a torpedo to surpass Papa John. Lo and behold: the Mk48. Faster than the Mk16, with wire-guidance capability and the ability to hit either submarines or surface ships. unlike the previous Mk37, with the speed of a diesel-electric submarine, the Mk48 is specially equipped to smell your fear. Once it's locked on all you can do is hope it runs out of fuel. The other half of what makes the Mk48 so deadly is your submarine - American submarines, compared to Soviet nuclear submarines, are quieter, operate alone (vs. Soviet wolfpacks) and specialize more in passive sonar than active sonar. From the other end all you see is empty ocean until you pick up the pinging of a torpedo only 5,000 yards away. It's not all sunshine and roses, though. For example: The Udaloy, an anti-submarine warfare destroyer, built from the ground up to put American fast-attack skippers through extreme natural selection. Great active and passive sonar. SS-N-14 missiles to very rapidly drop torpedoes over your head. USET-80 heavyweight torpedoes for closer quarters, and RBU-6000 rocket launchers to sprinkle depth charges everywhere around you. These ships can be scary. Not as scary as a Mk48, but still scary. If you are going to start a campaign (which I recommend after some practice in single missions), pick '84. '68 has no fear-smelling Mk48 and '00 has you operating in shallow waters and probably isn't the best for a first-time playthrough. '00, however, does have a better Mk48 - now it can hear your heartbeat. In total, a good game that requires some patience, unless you press F9 to speed things up. Highly. Recommend.
Game has some serious issues with enemy ship sensors, even on the easy level with aggressiveness unchecked on the options for enemy ship conduct its a bloodbath. While I agree that there are some good points about this game such as realistic options for the older vessels and weapons loadout, there are some serious options missing 1. Where are the VLS tubes? Im having to manually load antiship missiles in torpedo tubes in a 2000 CE scenario with a seawolf class? I understand that there are no stinger mast weapons as opposed to the older game Red Storm Rising but at least give us some of the weapon systems that were actually in place in the mid 80's that would make sense 2. They have a standoff ASROC like weapon but its not for use in any of the scenarios with the USSR as the protagonist? I mean theyve had the RPK-6,7 since the 1980s but where are they? the game obviously uses them but not for the actual player? And what about coming out of the main map into the tactical gameplay CAVITATING? then suddenly you have 4 torpedoes on top of you that magically do a straight search and as you successfully decoy it/noise jam it then pulls a circular search right for your sub?? I mean at least balance this out a little for the fun of it, rather than having literally 10 torpedoes drop out of the sky on top of a sub using a strong surface current with thermal layer running silent on the EASY setting.
