About
Cloudbreaker is a roguelite survivors-like where you explore a sky-world, defeating hordes of enemies. Upgrade and optimize your arsenal with an inventory management puzzle system. Unlock and upgrade airships, each with its own unique layout, abilities, and strategies, to grow your power over time.
Delve down through the clouds into a sky-world rife with danger and riches. Discover ruins filled with scrap, relics, and resources to power up your ship. Survive against hordes of Biotes; the lingering biotech experiments of past civilizations. Defeat bosses to break through cloud layers and descend deeper into the depths of the sky.
To survive, you must carefully upgrade your ship to contend with increasing dangers as you descend. Defeating Biotes earns you Bloil that your ship converts into Engine Parts. These Engine Parts can be installed in your Engine Grid: an inventory management puzzle system.
Placement of Engine Parts is key. Each Engine Part interacts with the grid in unique ways, creating powerful synergies. This forces you to carefully consider where each new part is installed, and plan your build accordingly. Weapons also have their own upgrade trees, redefining how they function, adding another layer of depth to your build.
Your power grows over time as you unlock new parts and airships. Each ship has its own unique Engine Grid layout, and abilities, that lend themselves to new strategies and builds.
As you progress, you will customize each ship by powering its upgrade tree, tailoring it to your particular playstyle

I use survivor-likes as a mental health tool to stop my mind from racing, while still not putting too much concentration into a task. The last couple ones I tried I couldn't get that type of flow going. I've been playing this one through development and it does the thing I need it to. its just hard enough to keep my mind engaged enough, while also allowing me to relax and take a break. I really apreciate the soundtrack for keeping me in flow (sometimes that can break it for me) and the inventory mangement concept keeps the runs unique. wish I got more of the world building, but thats just me haha (I like my lore). If survivor-likes are your medicine, I highly suggest giving this one a try, its got a different flavor to it.
(Writing this review with 70h or more on the clock which have been gathered through playtests and demos) you start by picking a ship and dive head on into the sky. later on you will unlock different ships with unique features and layouts. during the run you will find new weapons and gear that will have its effect on your gear. now you will have to twist and turn these pieces to make them fit into the storage of your ship (tetris experience will help). blasting thorugh the skies will earn you permanent upgrade points that can be invested into new ships, gear or even change the drop chance of gear. which will allow you to aim for specific builds or just have fun doing crazy things. there are different stages with different monsters. each of these stages holds 3 bosses. a regular run will last about 20min, depending on how fast you finish the boss. from here you can go back to your base and invest the points or ,once its unlocked, go endless and see how far your ship will last. during the run you can encounter unique relics which can give you a big benefit. placing them has to be done with caution, since they cant be moved afterwards. so thinking about the space of your ship, plan the layout and a bit of RNG will keep you on your toes. while the run might be "only" 20min, the planning and thinking how to use your ship to its fullest potential can keep you busy for hours. maybe you want to deploy a minefield? blast the aliens with a railgun or zap them with tesla-coils? it can be done! be creative and figure out how the different gear pieces interact with eachother to create some crazy builds.

don't let my low hours fool you, i have hours and hours in the demo and play test. Normally i'm not into rougelites or bullet hells but this grabbed me, the art design and music are so intriguing, the lore is vague and mysterious. and the gameplay loop is so strong, so many combinations, so much re-playability, so much room for creativity. highly recommend, so worth the price.
This game has a bunch of fun little systems to learn about at your own pace. The interactions are satisfying and it seems I have been rewarded for making bold choices on upgrade paths and chaining effects that feel a little bit like playing a good game of Dominion. As a veteran of the demo, I loved tooling around in my little craft with upgrade paths and legoing the components together. The ship positioning, aiming and dash controls are just enough to reward careful risk taking. With about 10 hours into it, I have only completed the first of three sections, so lots there to keep you satisfied in the core content and ship and part unlock metagame.
Game crashes consistently after every run when buying upgrades and frequently during a run, taking the entire box down with it. Gameplay seems fun, if it works for you, but seriously this was not remotely ready for full release.
[I've clocked dozens of hours on the demo and expect dozens more from the release. I've yet to encounter any issues on PC] Solid gameplay loop, many clever and engaging mechanics at play, and lovely art direction -- the combination of which is somewhat rare across the genre. Each airship offers a unique grid layout to install new parts as you discover them, and exploring the myriad ways one can combine and enhance different parts and weapons while working within the bounds of the grid is half the fun. It's so satisfying when you break through with a powerful build and become untouchable (for a time), knowing it was by your design. I'm still searching for that perfectly synergized build! All said, for its price, this game has more than enough depth. One might even call it an abyss... >:)
Putting an initial view up after playing several hours of the demo and then grabbing the full game. This is a really fun mix of “survivors” type gameplay with some in-run ship modification / inventory management. The art style is a very pretty mix of “painterly” pixel art and fancy VFX. Personally I prefer it with the “crisp” pixel mode but it looks good with any settings. With the demo I got into a “just one more try” loop getting through the first zone before I eventually managed to beat the boss. Looking forward to getting back to that point and checking out the later zones!
This game is pretty sweet! I've been "just one more dive"ing for a few hours now It sits somewhere between a twin-stick shooter, bullet hell, incremental, and inventory puzzle, and manages to pull it off really well. Each dive, you get to outfit your ship with a number of randomly rolled engine parts, building out an arsenal to fend off the ever-increasing swarm of enemies. Between rounds you can unlock new parts to show up on your next dives, apply lasting upgrades to your ship, or update the drop chances of some parts, so you can focus future builds as you like. Definitely going to be burning some hours on this one
Genuinely good game - I am pretty avid roguelike enthusiast and it seems a tad too on the difficult side, as I've yet to survive more than 5 minutes - but I guess thats a traditional issue where most games which require macro scale advancement over time nerf you in the start. Still - even as a simple game its pretty fun!
Great game! love the engine parts, love the juice in the menus. Really nice vibes!
