Shoot. Groove. Loot. Repeat. Cross an ever-changing city skyline, flowing through encounters in tune with the cityscape’s beat. From the weapons you fire, to the enemies you shoot, to the zen-like flow, the only way to win is to become one with the beat.

About

Music is everywhere in the City of Beats and drives absolutely everything in this rogue-lite, twin-stick shooter. Listen to the beat, get into the flow, and unleash bullet hell on the rooftops of the City, blasting through legions of hostile robots.
Don't worry about the damage. Humans left a while ago, and it's just us androids up here. Well, androids and robots, controlled by an ornery rogue A.I., the Zeitgeber, trying to impose its own groove on all robo-kind. Someone should do us all a favor and get out there to pull the plug, yeah?

Everything's driven by music. Literally everything. Weapons, enemies, environmental hazards, it all grooves to the underlying beat.
Listen to the music to anticipate attacks, time dodges, and avoid traps - also knowing when to fire, use special skills, and unleash charged super attacks.
Master the flow of the beat and dance atop skyscrapers to become unstoppable.

Embark on endless expeditions across procedurally generated maps. No two playthroughs are the same, meaning different enemies, encounters, and upgrades each and every time.
Experiment with different builds during each run. What will the beat bring tonight? Damage modifiers? Shield boosts? Quirky mutators that can completely alter the flow of combat? Only the music knows!
Make an orchestra of funky friends. Rogue repair-bots down on their luck! Surprisingly honest merchants! Shady robotic bonesaws looking to take some of your juice in exchange for illicit upgrades! The beat brings together all walks of synthetic life.

You only get one life, but fret not, destruction is only an inconvenience for an android.
Back in the hub, upgrade core traits, buy new weapons and equip extensions, and make sure to stretch before getting ready for another dance number.

boring. After more than 2 hours, there's no variety in the gameplay. Always the same enemies and level. That's it?
Felky Fun Meter

|-------|---| [7/10] Pretty fun!
I'll just say this first since I assume most people are going to look at this game for the "Rhythm" tag : I wouldn't consider this a Rhythm game at all. Yes when you shoot your gun it makes music; yes when some things happen you can hear them in the song, but there is no input that you have to do on-beat like a real Rhythm game would make you. That being said the game is pretty good and above average for most of its content; upgrades, enemies, biomes, meta-progression. It does lack weapon diversity which was disappointing especially since I bought it for the 1.0 release and there was only 3 available with a 4th one coming soon that really felt underwhelming. Overall I had a good time, a run doesn't take too long to finish; the main story isn't too easy or too difficult; and there is some post-campaign features available as well cuz why not. Fun game!
Man, underated as hell... such a neat concept, enemies and bullet on beats and not forced to fire but just hold the button and it will fire beats... it will create music, even enemies.. I reached 2nd zone and even poison ticks are on beat.. <3 love it!
This game is great. I love anything that puts a rhythm aspect into a genre, and City of Beats uses rhythm tastefully while also having some great soundtracks. Highly recommend for any rhythm fan.
Hotline Miami but you gun goes bee bo boo bo bee bo boo bee bo bee bo
This game was pretty unique. I felt that the balance of rhythm game and bullet hell didn't quite work out but I like the graphics and music.
It's a tough game that requires a lot of concentration to simultaneously dodge enemies & bullets, shoot at your targets, utilize your abilities, avoid hazards, AND keep with the rhythm. If you're not in a quite environment without interruptions, this game becomes difficult. The aesthetic of the game is very desolate but the dialog is very quirky and silly, which is a bit incongruent. But the presentation fits the gameplay well and looks pretty good. Your shots shoot with the rhythm but you have to time your power shots with the rhythm. combining that with dodging makes the game satisfying when you're able to pull these maneuvers off. You're able to use some currency for permanent upgrades to make builds, and use other currencies for in-run power-ups for a single run. It's a fun and effective method for a Rogue-like. I do think the in-run power-ups can afford to be more out there. They were a bit basic and don't change that gameplay that much. Overall, tough but fair game that requires a lot of concentration. Getting good is difficult but satisfying.
Amazing game, very challenging. it can be repetetive (songs), but still one of the best rogue-like rhytm game. I hope they make city of beats 2.
Great little twin-stick shooter. Graphics are very moreish, but gameplay is tough. Too many enemies sometimes, gotta improve those reflexes.
