It is what it says it is. Works great on Linux (through wine/proton) too You can copy images out of the game and into any other program that supports images, including chat programs like Discord. You can copy images from any application and load them into the game. People already are questioning why I'm sending circuit diagrams with no explanation. I'm not going to stop sending them.
This is genuinely great software, which combines several things that I love from similar programs/games: * Virtual Circuit Board - Pixel based drawing of schematics and logic (here on Steam as well), as well as time-reversal to analyze circuit behavior * Wired Logic - Found on GitHub, uses a minimal ruleset for wires and logic * Nandgame - Tutorial that goes from playing with NAND gates to building a simple CPU * Pico-8 - Retro game creation studio which supports sharing games as PNG files, giving this a plug-and-play feel * Hard Chip - Semiconductor simulation game which features propagation delay as part of the puzzles (also on Steam) It's hard to justify exiting the game whenever I do (total game time is probably closer to 100 hours).
It's a fun little puzzle/simulation game. The UI is nice and easy to use with good macros implemented. I quite enjoyed the provided puzzles/levels. I'd say it's worth the price.

But I find it hard to accept that all gate circuits should be nand equivalent, why not component packaging? There are no blueprints, just box selection and copy and paste, and no layers, but the minimalist style is really my favorite.Perhaps it would be great to change the style to[i] Caves of Qud [/i],as for features, it would be helpful to look at OpenVCB more.
Circuit sim goes brr *EDIT Honestly blown away that more people don't have this in their library, this is an incredible piece of kit for anyone interested in computer science or low level architecture. Heck - make your own architecture and poo-poo on people that can't, or maybe teach them the ways of the gods. Feature request: Can we have a terminal, or a way for this software to interact with files external to the simulator? For example, create low level simulated hardware to compress a text document on the host operating system. Input / Output / Filepointer. Or maybe don't do that because I'd share a peice of artwork to systematically format their entire hard drive partition with all zeros.
Great game for those who like a challange, decent tutorial and levels that ease you into the harder part If the game doesnt start for you on windows, try running it straight from souce directory and you'll get an error message. On my older laptop I was missing VCOMP140 DLL, afterwards all smooth sailing

Note: I wouldn’t recommend this for complete beginners, but if you type ‘nandgame’ into a web browser and get through at least 12 levels or so of that then you will no longer be a complete beginner. Digital logic stuff will be much easier to learn initially using a schematic-based approach using symbols connected by lines where you don’t need to care about pixels or exact positions of wires and such. Aside from being kind of new, I think this is the best "toy" hardware-like level logic IC simulator and educational tool that I've seen so far. It doesn't try to make you put down individual CMOS transistors, or try to simulate all annoying physics phenomena that occur in real integrated circuits, but it does simulate signal delays and the fact that pixel color doesn't matter (only black vs not black matters) means you have maximal freedom in picking colors for color coding, drawing pixel art, or whatever purpose you have. Aside from the art aspect, this is all at least a little closer to actual hardware even if things like P/N materials aren't simulated. It does allow up to 4 layers with the upper 3 being wire-only similar to a real IC. This is most similar to Virtual Circuit Board, but I like the fundamental approach of Circuit Artist more. At first I thought the "everything has to be made of NAND gates" thing would be too annoying, but now I think having the only gate with hardcoded special handing being a NAND gate and having colors not matter (unlike VCB which uses colors to indicate inputs, outputs, component types, etc) ends up being less trouble. Since you can create "blueprints", you can just make NOT, AND, OR, XOR, etc out of the NANDs and keep copying those into the design which keeps you from having to do everything with NAND gates from scratch all the time. You can then optimize this by removing any double-NOTs that occur. Then you can make more complicated blueprints of your previous blueprints and save those, etc. So while VCB would let you stuff more logic into fewer pixels by using pixel color to place higher level primitives, the trade off is that you need a color to mark component inputs, another for outputs, another for the component type, another for wires, and another for wire intersections. While that's not an unreasonable way of doing things, it makes the drawing process more complicated and pixels are pretty cheap so the space savings isn't really that important. Maybe editing an existing design would be easier in VCB, but the fact is that everything with connections between components based on location is going to be more difficult to edit than a purely schematic diagram. [b]This software is also open source so you can see exactly how it's implemented if you want to read the code yourself.[/b] In conclusion, I'd highly recommend this to anyone who is interested in this kind of stuff. The main drawback to it is that it's not quite as beginner friendly as some other digital logic simulators/games, but unlike VCB it does have lots of tutorials at this point (just expect them to not be very hand-holdy and expect to need to look stuff up in the built-in "wiki" reference at the very least). Quite a bit of fun to be had here. As a software engineer and hardware tinkerer this is exactly what I want from a circuit sim. Alternate title: "Whoops! All NAND's"
