So, I openly admit that I never really informed myself about Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation: Time After Time before and just assumed it was a story about high school girls getting comfortable with each other, but what this game delivered was beyond my expectations. First of all, I guess we don’t technically have protagonists here who go to school, although they’re still very young regardless. And the reader doesn’t only accompany them through their everyday life but will see the protagonist grow and there were more than enough scenarios I couldn’t agree on more in this game – and might have experienced myself. After all, there is a lot of pressure when it comes to society and a lot of people are insecure about unknown things in life and there is nothing worse than having an unstable future, but I don’t want to reveal too much here. Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation: Time After Time takes in a place where the P3 law decides your life. Citizens have Authorization Seals that determines which job they are performing and are getting ranked by those. Of course, it’s a positive thing overall as it ensures their workplace so they never have to worry about the future. However, there are people here as well that have no Authorization Seals which are called “chuusotsu”. This means that they are jobless. You see, the heroine Arue is one of the so-called chuusotsu yet she is determined to change her life and thus, she applied and joined a government relief program where she is going to live with two other chuusotsu. To successfully complete their task, all three girls have to be in synchronization with the task “What makes a wonderful life?” within a week or else they will fail the assignment and have to return to their old life. Story-wise, I’d say that there isn’t a lot happening in Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation: Time After Time – at least at first glance. Most of the part the reader just gets to know the characters better and here comes the first good part about this game: The character development. When I first got to know the characters I had the impression that they’re very odd, especially Arara as she is talking about delusional things. I just couldn’t picture Arue being friends with them, as she seemed like the only normal person here. However, they ended up being friends before I realized it and it was so natural that I found they were inseparable in the end. I appreciate when very different kinds of personalities meet each other, don’t go along at first, yet slowly start to warm up and accept each other. It’s a wonderful thing when your impression of someone starts to change and I’m sure anyone can relate to the fact that first impressions aren’t always positive. So yes, this game revolves around the theme of friendship a lot. Going through Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation: Time After Time I realized that not everything is cheerful and light-hearted about this game but even our heroines are struggling with one or another thing from the past. Everyone has their own past and they don’t force others to talk about it which shows a high level of respect. Whilst Arue’s story will slowly get revealed to the reader, I found that the past incidents of the other two girls weren’t in-depth enough for my taste. In the end, I still don’t have a clue what their exact story is, although some fragments do get hinted here and there. However, I still do hope that they will be told in more detail once more entries of this series are going to get released as our adventure with the chuusotsu are clearly not over yet. I found the theme quite interesting, as well as Arue and her friends, who have to go through a lot of struggles due to them being chuusotsu. Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation: Time After Time just shows how cruel it can be when you are getting labeled as a failure you cannot escape from. The circumstances are always different and whilst some people are too lazy to work for sure, some suffer from diseases that make it impossible for them to get a full-time job. But that makes the bond only stronger as each of them was understanding and supporting each other. But the main task is here to find out what happiness truly is and I didn’t have a clue, but in the end, I was very satisfied with the answer Arue comes up with and sympathized with her when she finally realizes what’s important in life. With Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation: Time After Time being a kinetic novel, there are no choices at all or any other features that do affect the story. There is only one end that was very impactful to me and I found it was a good way to end a game. Although I don’t mind multiple endings, this visual novel being a kinetic novel was the perfect solution as the linear story will definitely touch its player at some point. I always enjoy it when games focus on their story, even if it’s linear, and I feel like when only one end is available it’s like the ideal resolution – when done right – although I guess it almost has the same effect as adding a true route, however, there aren’t unnecessary endings the reader has to go through in this case that might not even make sense in the worst case. Graphic-wise, Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation: Time After Time is gorgeous with various facial expressions. Whilst animation is rather on the short side, I felt like this game didn’t necessarily need them as the immersion was already great for me, although it would have definitely enhanced it. There are a lot of CGs available here, although some are more colorful while others rather do have a dark vibe. However, I found the art style a little bit inconsistent here as some propositions in the CGs looked odd. This mostly applied to the faces of the characters and while you can tell which person it is, they still do have a different vibe than their sprites or the other CGs. Ultimately, I got used to it quickly and it didn’t disturb my immersion a lot, but it was noticeable. Additionally, there is high-quality voice-acting available here that made the game a lot livelier. In all honesty, I’m thrilled by the content Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation: Time After Time offered to me as it’s much more than the surface implies at first. This visual novel doesn’t only show its reader three carefree girls but that’s only a facade. But again, this just shows that everyone has their own scars even if they seem like the happiest person on earth at first. It’s incredibly important to support each other through hard times without demanding anything and, more importantly, everything is more fun in life when you can spend it with your friends. This visual novel made me rethink my own life a lot as well for various reasons and I definitely could relate to Arue in a lot of points, but strangely, her development made me, as the reader, incredibly proud that I felt like a mother watching her child growing up. That being said, Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation: Time After Time is an excellent visual novel that tells its readers an emotional story where the characters grow a lot – before I noticed, I was already trapped into Arue and her friend’s sweetness.
Chuusotsu is a cute sci-fi slice of life medium length (by medium I mean between 8-18hs, anything above is already into the longer side) kinetic visual novel with a lot of layers behind the seemingly simplistic front. You follow the misadventures of Marisugawa Arue as she tries to reform her life as a shut-in, reach her dreams and obviously make some friends along the way. However, things quickly take a turn into the weird and strange but thankfully with a satisfactory conclusion and lead up to the mini sequel. What surprised me the most was the very dark, heavy and ominous tone going in the background, which I don't want to spoil much, but it contrasts heavily with the cheerful and carefree mood on the surface. The story is set in a near-future Japan after a massive global conflict has nearly destroyed the planet and reconstruction efforts led to a dystopian society not unlike the worst nightmares of sci-fi writers, including branding everyone with nanomachines that act as seals that determine what they'll do in life until they expire. The game does provide a very useful glossary of concepts and a short side story you can read to further understand the setting. It's in that brave new world where Arue's struggles become more remarkable and where I feel the work shines as she quotes the infamous "human debris" concept and suffers through a society that rejects and even wants to make people like her disappear. It also makes the interactions between the main cast all the more entertaining as they acknowledge their outcast status and try to work together to stand up proud in spite of it. Alright, enough rambling! I usually take a moment to describe some of the technical aspects but, well, the game runs pretty well on pretty much low spec hardware so that shouldn't be a worry. It supports controllers and the Steam overlay also works so you can go wild with the screenshots. It is fully voice acted as well, which is a rarity for doujin visual novels and the quality of the voices was pretty good as well, with Arue kind of reminding me of Neptune's energy at times. The soundtrack is excellent as well and worth warranting a full package/bundle purchase for it. Most of the music is fairly chill out and energetic and the opening song is great as well. All in all, quite recommended and thankfully not overly long so ideal for those looking for shorter experiences!
Chuusotsu starts off as a Visual Novel that has a very lighthearted Comedy Touch and Focuses a lot on the Friendship and its Development of the 3 Girls. Later on however the game gets a lot more Psychological and a lot more interesting. It also has a few interesting Concepts in it that make you think a bit more. An Example is how the World works as it has some Similarities to Comunism or similar Views. If you expect an only cute little VN then you are wrong here. This certainly has some cute Aspects, but it also gets quite "disturbing" later on. Not extreme or anything, but you should still consider that it is not just a Kids Story. The Art, Translation, Voice Acting and other Aspects of the overall quality are all high quality. I also like the short "Tips" or Descriptions that the Game offers for certain Words. This is an All Ages Game and doesnt have any Romance, but a well thought through Story and good Characters. Overall, it started off a bit slow and it felt like it had an interesting Concept, but dragged on a little too much, but once I got a bit further into the Story it really started to get interesting and after finsihing it I had a great Feeling, which you sometimes get after reading a nice Story. Looking forward to the Second Game. The Game is also priced reasonably as it is around 10 hours long maybe a little less but still and it is also a great read.

前言
《Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation Time After Time》是由发行商Fruitbat Factory发行的一款休闲动漫视觉小说游戏。故事讲述的是三位Chuusotsu(被社会视为失败的人,类似于学渣)的少女为了在这个架空的世界生存下来而奋斗。

STORY: Chuusotsu depicts three girls who struggle to live and be recognized in a quasi-utopian and orvellian world. It is a straightforward story, with a single predictable ending. The mood is largely comical and lighthearted in nature, intermixed with more serious, sadder, and darker moments, particularly towards the end of the story. There are some moments where it conveys either well, however, I find that the story and narrative tends to be on the bland and boring side often. ARTWORK: The characters sprites and drawings are ok, but no more than that. They feel monotone and on the unpolished side, no animations and there is relatively few variety of facial expressions. There are a few CGs here and there but they are not drawn any differently/better than the characters in the general story at large. SOUND: There is a decent amount of music included in the game. It is of decent quality and accompanies the mood of the story well, though it is not particularly memorable by any means. Furthermore, there is no option to listen to the songs in the Extras. Voice acting is decent and conveys the characters' emotions and backgrounds well. SUMMARY: Overall, rather expensive for the largely so-so quality of the work, and the rather short story. I do suggest getting it on sale if interested. 6/10
《Chuusotsu! 1st Graduation: Time After Time》是一款非常特别的视觉小说游戏,虽然在预览视频和图片中能看到异常可爱的女主角们,但这款游戏的主题并不是常见的恋爱日常,而是一个非常深刻的故事。
What looks and begins like a light-hearted story will surprise you with its deep and mature themes. Whether it’s about debating about what makes a wonderful life, or how you can make your life worth living, in regard to your relationship with others, philosophy is around the corner in this short Visual Novel, but never boring.
A bright comedy that remains a serious take on transhumanism simultaneously. To be honest, I expected a bit more after all the high praise. However, the game still managed to present an interesting dystopian setting, a loveable cast of characters, and quirky writing that differs from what you usually see. I also liked how it depicted one of the conflicts between the main characters. They continued talking with each other without visible discomfort, but you still clearly could see how their attitude changed with their manner of speaking and addressing each other. Realistic approach. And it's simply impressive seeing a doujin game written and drawn by a single person that also has pleasant voice acting and a theme song. The team put a lot of effort into the project. From my Twitter. Take a look at it if you're interested in VN news, opinions, and more. I'll be happy to see you.
