This game is a lot of fun, it really has that 'just one more go' feel to the gameplay every time a run ends. It's also really satisfying the first time you manage to take down a boss. I can't wait to see how this develops through early access but it's already absolutely worth playing today!
"That looks nice, but it early-access", this review is for you. Is the game an early-access state? Yes. But that doesn't mean it aint fun. Actually, the game itself is solid, there is a nice collection of enemies, weapons, bullet types and upgrades. On top of that, it plays smoothly (with controller). Without any fuzz or boring tutorials I could jump right in. Playing a few rounds doesn't feel repetitive at all. Actually, it's hard not to play 'one more round'.
Boring. Repetitive. Giant Skill Tree is boring and way too similar throughout. Picture the skill tree from Path of Exile, but everything is just core stat upgrades. There's just very little game here. REFUNDED
quite a fun and challenging game glad to see a steam game actually come out of early access on steam...
Okay guys. I played the demo for this game. The arcade mode is really fun and the global leaderboards are so fun to try and beat. The main story line is so so so so fun. There’s so much to unlock and explore. It brings me back to old school Space shooters like the classic (galaga). It says I’ve only played 2.5 hours of the story but the demo is something I have over 24 hours on. I have a job and I am a busy person so I haven’t been able to play lately but will be on the grind very soon. I have never done a review for a game in my entire life, but this one for sure has earned the spot as my first review. I love this game and you will too.
Игра скучная прогремма нет, Можно 15 минут лететь вперед, стрелять одних и тех же монстров и ничего не происходит. Есть индикатор справа, который замирает на трети и перестает увеличиваться. Скучная однообразная игра.
Not worth the price tag. Had the potential but it didn't seem to take advantage of that potential. If it's on a sale that puts it below $10 in price, sure, worth grabbing. But otherwise, it's not worth the price. The story mode has very little story other than some gab between the main character and the bosses she fights. While some power ups are obvious in their use, some are not. Also every weapon outside the main basic weapon you unlock is only temporary, which means that for most of the game, you'll be using the same weapon every single time. The grid to unlock the power ups was an okay idea but only the power ups that helped the core ship were permanent upgrades. Otherwise it was simply unlocking the ability for that weapon to spawn as a temporary weapon. Not sure if there'll be any updates to make changes to the game or not but I probably won't be playing it after this review.
Good game, reminds me of older atari games.
Chronicles was a fun nostalgic romp with an RPG twist. On the surface, it's a pretty standard shoot-em-up. You hold down the fire button and blast enemies while dodging bullets. The game controls handle fine and feel properly-calibrated for smooth response. The graphics nail the retro feel and the sound/music is phenomenal. The game begins to stand out when you start upgrading your ship. With 300 upgrade nodes, you choose your own playstyle as you progress. Each failed run contributes to persistent progress. You will also be able to swap freely between several weapon styles as you acquire them, allowing you some dynamic diversity as you play. Being able to shoot most enemy bullets adds to this as the different weapon spreads can contribute to tactics for intercepting enemy ships. Overall, the game is simple and straightforward, but very clever and fun.
Gameplay
Pros

Very nice looking game.
Gameplay is fun and challenging with many powerups.
Has a leaderboard so that means you can challenge other players records.
Absolutely love the upgrades where you can upgrade your ship.
Static City Games put all their passion into their games, they care about their community. I would support them any day!
Cons

Lacks grinding - New and unique types of ships would add this type of grind to the game. (Unlockables)
Lacks Leaderboard monitoring, which would be great to prevent unfair records. Definitely not required.

Audio
Pros

Most of the audio fits very well with the game.
I love that you have dialogues and story added to the game, it adds more personality to the game. And brings it to life.
Cons

When enemy ship explodes, the audio does not fit the game style in my opinion, it sounds very odd.

Design
Overall

The game and it's artstyle looks beautiful and it's interface is impressive.
Levels are challenging - I can't even beat first boss without dying. Which is great, i love a challenge!

Controls
Pros

Controller support which is great.
Cons

Lacks controller D-Pad support in menus.
Xbox 360 Controller requires you to press ( X ) which in my opinion is a little harder to press than ( A ).
Proud to own this game, and so should you!
