I love point-&-click games and Lovecraft, so thumbs up!
3/10 Speech: - over the top - slow (15 min+ cutscene...) - no fast forward clicking in cutscenes and a lot of dialogue lines Graphics: - very basic backgrounds and slightly better animation - small high res sprites on 320x200 backgrounds look wrong - some impossible puzzles b/c of bad game design - lack of hints to point you in some direction Story: - I like Lovecraft, this one is just told in an unable fashion - length would have been decent but I just stuck to the walkthrough to finish it fast Overall: - amateurish feel - hotspots are very tight and hard to find - takes tons of elements from Maniac Mansion, Indiana Jones and the last Crusade, Sierra (towards the end of the game you get to die a LOT) and especially Monkey Island but somehow there's not much else either. I love those old games and this one is a bad rip-off that took everything just a step back + the fact that the dev team is Italian: +1
A great point-and-click adventure, especially if you're a fan of the old-school genre. I loved all the nods to classic games like Monkey Island—the protagonist even bears a striking resemblance to Guybrush. The team behind the game did an excellent job crafting a richly atmospheric world that pulls you right in. The voice acting and music are also great. That said, it's a bit on the short side. There are areas in the game—like the church—that seemed ripe for exploration but were sadly left unused. It felt like there was potential for much more. Still, I loved the many ways you could die, especially toward the end. It brought back memories of Shadow of the Comet in the best way. As a Lovecraft enthusiast, I really recommend this gem. Looking forward to play the sequel.
He pasado un mal rato estupendo jugando Chronicle of Innsmouth.
It's dark and oppressive. The story is cool. But it is slowed down by nasty pixel hunting and timed puzzles. I recommend using a guide. Reserved for purists. The next one: Chronicles of innsmouth: Mountains of Madness is MUCH MUCH better.
Lovecraft point and click adaptation using the Monkey Island style interface. Old-school graphics, with full voice acting and soundtrack. Challenging puzzles, dialogue and item based. You can die at several points, but the game creates an autosave just before. I didn't find any softlocks. Warning - the final section of the game contains a lot of difficult reaction tests, I needed to check a YouTube playthrough to work out how to beat them.
A cool little point and click that has the vibe and feel of an old 90's point and click. As someone who enjoys the Cthulhu mythos most of the story did not come as a surprise but it was still fun to uncover them in this new light. I do think I enjoyed the game more knowing what I was in store for. I do think I need to warn new players that the 2nd half of the game feels more obtuse with puzzles that have non-explained ways of controlling and sudden additional mechanics that might turn off a lot of people so keep that in mind. The first half however was more of a straightforward point and click and was very enjoyable to play. That said, I think I would give this game a 4 out of 5.
As a big fan of the Cthulhu mythos, this game really delivered. The point-and-click format lends itself perfectly to this kind of storytelling, and I wasn’t bored for a single minute. The puzzles were incredibly smart (some had me scratching my head for a while) and there are also some brilliantly grim game overs for making foolish choices. The endgame, though, is the real highlight. It immerses you in the main character’s situation in a way that feels authentic and unsettling, and the final twist was the perfect payoff. Visually, the game uses a retro pixel art style reminiscent of classic LucasArts adventures. Far from feeling dated, it really enhances the atmosphere, amplifying the creepiness and nostalgia in equal measure. Even if you haven’t read The Shadow Over Innsmouth, this is a gripping and eerie tale that stands on its own. I’d definitely recommend it to horror fans and point-and-click adventure enthusiasts alike. I was so engrossed, I ended up finishing it in just one night.
Из похожих игр на ум приходят Nine Witches: Family Disruption и The Last Door.
