I played 30 hours with my child (less than 6 y/o) it was hard at the beginning but he is really into the character story. We are playing on PC (plugged on a regular tv) with controllers in split screen mode and he loves it. Hoping for new storyline content soon as we finished it all and now working towards getting 5 stars on every level. A really fun game, it’s a bit like tower defense and third person. It does not rely too much on rifles and guns which I like for a young kid. The narration makes it interactive and helps understand the objectives of the mission. Overall great quality game. Worth the price
It is with a heavy heart that I didn't enjoy this game. I have only played single player, for multiplayer or Co-op this review will not cover much. There was some fun ideas, some moments that made me smile but there are several points that caused me to put it down before it was done. I would describe this more of a puzzle game with some fighting. The "puzzle element" is actually fairly fun, but feels massively out of place and actively clashes with what RTS element there are. Each level has an obvious "how to do this map" and unless you follow that pattern you won't pass. This is where I feel this really lets this game down, there is actually very little strategy in this strategy game. You are forced into using command groups of specific units types (of which there are only 4) And you can't even give them direct orders. You don't truly choose the composition of your force, you are told what you need for this level and they auto build. You tell them where to go, that's it. You can't tell them which enemy to focus on, you can't even tell them to even attack anything, just where to be. This was massively annoying for me. There is a very strange mechanic that I do not like and that is you have to "find/unlock" unit factories every single level. Basic ground pounders? Need to walk to where the unlock is. Want to have soldier with guns, need to find the part of the map that has the unlock. EVERY single level has this. Yet again feeling more like a puzzle game rather than true tactical choice. There is also a total building cap, so another limiting factor, even if you have the money and unlock. You as a fighter feels like a "bolt on" rather than a core element, there is no doge/block/evade. You are hit unless you're out of range You aren't really up to fighting more than one or two foes at a time. you often need to run if you meet air enemies as a gun is not standard kit and you can't hit air enemies without having found the "unlock" on a level that lets you build a building that gives you ammo. The ammo and upgrade buildings are odd too, you have to keep going back to collect ammo or get a "recharge" of you bike or double jump. Again you have to find the specific unlock on a level to access these. Due to the before mentioned "puzzle element" some areas are only reachable by a specific character's upgrade. This can force you to have to recall back to you base, change character, go to the upgrade hub to get your upgrade then head off to do the jumping puzzle. Then have to do that again for the next jumping puzzle. It just feels bad and time consuming. To make this even more annoying, these ammo buildings/ upgrade building run out of ammo and upgrades! I had to sell and rebuild a building to get the right upgrade for a puzzle. Gathering money is also annoying. The core "nodes" last almost no time at all and once they are gone the only funds are gained from pick ups that you have to run to yourself, no automation, you need to go grab money while trying to command an army and run a base. The "map" mode is agony. The game keeps going while it's up and doesn't give you top down but a more zoomed out view from your current position. You have fight to get your pointer past obscuring terrain and it will often "glitch" out because of this. Anyone who has had "death by camara angle" in platformers will know what I mean. This often forces you to leave map mode and move then enter again so you can get your points past that large hill. I want to say good thing about this game, but there have to proven to be few things to to be upbeat about. If the following worries/gripes are addressed I would be inclined to give this another go: Fix the over head map mode. Automate gathering outside of core nodes. Possibly remove the need to return to upgrade/ammo stores. (maybe have a regenerating ammo amount while the building is present.) Remove the total building cap, (by all means limit each building by type as this ties into unit cap too)
Finally someone cracked the formula to make a GOOD RTS/Shooter hybrid! This game is a ton of fun to play solo or with a friend. Very kid friendly too; I'm playing through the campaign with my 8 year old daughter and we're LOVING it. I wish it had an easier mode, the story and lore is cute but the dialogue writing and humor is pretty cringe and mediocre. Still, fantastic gameplay and visuals!
Just a really nice family friendly RTS game. Awesome animations. Fun little story and challenging enough on harder difficulties to enjoy by myself but great fun to sit and play with the kids and introduce them to the RTS genre.
A great little RTS. Coop is very enjoyable, it looks fantastic and the gameplay is suprisingly deep for a modern RTS.
The campaign is annoying and pretty bad. you have to "unlock" your units all over again for each stage using nodes that are scattered around the map which forces the player to follow a specific path of progression through each mission, sometimes forcing the player to make the mission more difficult than it needs to be in later missions. And it's made even more annoying when you realize the Character repeat their dialog throughout the mission which gets on my nerves as they won't STFU. (it's one thing to use exposition to lore dump, which explained WHY you need to unlock your units for each mission, but they will repeat dialog constantly until the jokes and puns are no longer funny, or the voices become unbearable to listen to!) THANK GOD the skirmish mode and versus mode are nothing like the campaign mode and operation more like a traditional RTS/MOBA with all buildings and units at your disposal, leaving you to manage your base building, economy, and unit movement while still being part of the action. This is where the game shines the most as it can be compared to a simplified "Battlezone: Combat Commander" where unit production is automated and they can either be left to attack willingly like the creep in a MOBA or given rally points to move to and attack enemies when near by. As a person who likes RTS games, especially ones that let you be part of the action, I can definitely recommend people check this one out as the game features 2v2 PvP, Single Player Skirmish, or 2 Player online and split screen Co-op Campaign/PvE.
great
I think this game is absolutely fantastic, even though I know it is a niche game and will not appeal to everyone. My wife and I really love Pikmin 3. The light real time strategy combined with charm is exactly our kind of thing. ChipsAclawz is precisely the type of game we have been looking for. Commanding the ants is a lot of fun and feels very unique. Of course, there are still a few rough edges here and there, but for the price I think the amount of content and the overall quality are more than fair. I have rarely seen cutscenes of this quality at such a price. Thumbs up. Give this game a chance.
A very unique and fun rts type hybrid. I very much enjoy this and would absolutely recommend it to anyone who likes rts and/or something new. Graphics and gameplay are incredibly well done. I do wish it had more features like being able to split up troops of the same type but it's a blast and nothing else really like it. GO buy the game now and have fun. :)
Crazy Good, absolutely love it from the first minute. Mostly a platformer with Super Mario vibes and a lot of trash talk on Martian Brainglass Aliens. The Comic Art is a really cool fit for the theme and story writing seems fun and pro quality as far as I can tell. Did check the multiplayer modes but overall quality looks solid.
