Great co-op experience. A story of family that forces trying different builds and rewards effort with meaningful enhancements throughout the game. Beat it in about 18 hours and would recommend it as well worth the money.

I thought I was an ARPG snob, with very little patience with pixel art indies, and a distaste for roguelites. This game fixed my gripe with all of these. It’s a proper ARPG. It may not look like Diablo II, but it feels like it. The first level is essentially The Den of Evil (with an Act 3 dungeon theme on top - spiders, ew). The pots breaking make an identical sound, and can release gold (which is the main currency of the game), making this more satisfying than in Diablo II (where finding gold is less rewarding). The progress/grind ratio is enough not to feel like you’re mindlessly running the same level over and over again (my main gripe with roguelites). You keep almost everything when you die: gold, XP, level progression choices. There are run-specific items, but that’s just extra, the game doesn’t rely on this feature. The story also advances with every death, so you 100% feel like you progressed. The pacing is also great: it constantly gives you little things, it foreshadows some characters/events that you actually get excited for. Yes, the levels get randomized, but (again), it feels like Diablo II (meaning good). I like that you can level the characters in parallel, choosing who to play with for each run. You can completely ignore this and play as one character throughout, or switch as you get bored. The skill tree is above average as quality and below average as breadth. There’s a good anticipation/reward loop. It has a nice wholesome/charming/emotional story and the narrator’s quality voice accompanies it at every step. It’s unusually well written for an ARPG and it leaves you feeling better (rather than heavier). The art is gorgeous (I can’t believe I’m saying this) and it only looks rough/extra-pixelated when zoomed in during animations or cutscenes. It leaves room for imagination and your mind can successfully fill in the broad strokes so you can reconstruct what the artist had in mind and may have been limited by time/budget. It’s… a pretty game, surprisingly (see what I meant when I said I’m a snob?) The ranged combat is a little unreliable and imprecise, but it’s serviceable.
Far too much story with not enough gameplay variety, tried jamming it with a friend but its pretty samey. Playing it solo I just don't care enough about the story to sit through the frequent breaks from combat. Feels like a lesser version of Hades in basically every way. If you are gonna break the gameplay first agreement in an ARPG you need a great story for me to care, this simply doesn't have that.
Absolutely lovely game. Amazing art style, fantastic voice acting, a familial D&D vibe, and just the right amount of challenge to the gameplay. It's not often I go out trying to 100% a game, or play on New Game Plus, but I'm already trying to do both.
Beautiful game, the art are really pretty to look at, and enjoy the beauty of it. Gameplay wise it is quite diverse with multiple playable characters with completely different moveset, behaviour, trait, skill and stats. I really enjoy the roguelite + storytelling nature, it felt different and enjoyable. Highly recommended
Needs a button to fast forward/double speed the cutscenes. They're very frequent and very drawn out. I don't want to miss them, but they hurt the pacing. Like I'm trying to action rpg, NO no... see you NEED to - S L O W L Y - look here while darkest dungeon's cousin - S L O W L Y - rambles about thisorthat.
just cool 😉
