I 100%ed this game and it was mostly an exercise in frustration. The controls feel sluggish and slippery, the hit detection is inconsistent and the central mechanic of rolling your acorn around everywhere is just not very interesting. If you're expecting a puzzle game you will be dissapointed. Most of the gameplay revolves around timed platforming and precision jumps. But since the game is emulating the gameplay of top-down Zelda on GameBoy it just leads to frustration and countless falls into bottomless pits. The only point in the game where I was having consistent fun was in the Ivy Villa level, part of the optional post-game content. That's where I felt I could explore freely at my own pace without stress and where puzzling was the focus, rather than platforming or combat. It's the only time the cute and carefree visuals mesh well with the gameplay. But, as I said, that point comes at the post-game content. Which is too little too late for me. The visuals are cute though. And the soundtrack has some catchy tunes.
This is a really cozy game that reminds me of Gameboy color games from my childhood. The puzzles are cute and clever, and the game introduces new mechanics at a good pace. I definitely recommend everyone give this game a try for some relaxing fun!
Cute and enjoyable, with a nice price point to boot! If you enjoy retro gaming and well crafted puzzles definitely give this one a try.
A simple puzzle game, but with very well-designed levels. I was surprised that it kept me engaged all the way through. Also has post-game content!
It's good! I found out about it via bluesky. It's like Eagle's Tower from Link's Awakening, but expanded into a whole game. I appreciate that the levels are entire mazes.
Loved it - great aesthetic, solid gameplay
A fun top-down puzzle platformer with a unique mechanic: rolling around a giant walnut to hit switches you can't reach, get around obstacles, and whack bosses. The controls are good, though it is annoying that you get sucked towards the edge when you're near a bottomless pit; aside from that, Chico himself controls fine, and it's not too hard to have him throw the walnut where you want it. The levels have a good variety of different gimmicks to keep things interesting, and no two of them play exactly alike despite the simple mechanics. Aside from basic button-and-gate puzzles, there's ones involving fans to blow your walnut around, temporary platforms of all kinds, hallucinogenic water that might reveal a new path through the level, and more. The bosses are pretty fun, and present a puzzle-like challenge with more reflexes involved than the levels. Unfortunately, the game is very short, with only 10 full-length levels in total; I was able to beat it in about 2 hours. Still, there's some replay value with the coins strewn throughout the levels (used to unlock music tracks and colour palettes), and there's a hard difficulty mode which you can try once you've beaten the regular one. Overall, this is a great game at a cheap price, and is sure to scratch the itch for anyone who's into Game Boy-style games.
super cute little game! Kept me engaged the entire playthrough and I loved the collectible palettes. Highly recommend for those who enjoy gameboy-style / puzzle games.
Short but mostly sweet puzzle game
Really fun nostalgic puzzle adventure :)
